IMHO yes the gb had the edge when it came to chopping, but when you think about it, you should already have two axes with you anyway for the job. I think you should've pointed out the bes t team bring the gb and CD, the cold steel obviously for splitting and as a backup chopper, and vise versa with the granfors bruks. carrying both is not over cumbersome, as they're both small enough to fit well in a pack with a handy fishing knife, fixed blade or folder. if u were to go camping, both would be my choice for there jobs of delimbing, or felling small trees, and to split fire wood or make kindling. bug all in all great work brother tac, I enjoyed seeing all the four could do, I own a cold steel trail boss, I sharpened it, and its a great tool. hope you continue to treat your axes with great care as always, and may they serve you well.
Hey tac, I have a gransfors bruk too and it's a winner for sure! A good budget brand is husqvarna, they used to be made by wetterlings now made by another famous brand that has been making axes for longer than gransfors! The only thing is the edges don't come that sharp but they are vary from $20-$50 depending on the size/ model that you want, Bargin!. See ya. (;
I think your tests rock, Tac. Maybe not completely scientific but real world use is what I like to see! I already have the cold steel just because it was so freaking cheap and splits like a mo-fo. Probably better get a gfb too... ;) Anyway, awesome work brother, thank you!
Great vid as always, but I still like the cold steel, and still can't wait for your zombie apocalypse vidios. you got me hooked on those damb things......
I have an old camp axe that I can remember my Grandpa using from when I was 7 years old. When he passed away, I made sure I got that thing. It's gotta be well over 50 years old. I use it out in the woods all the time. I have no Idea what brand it is, everything is worn off of it. But its sharp as shit & works great. Hope to pass it to my son someday.
Thanks man, he was old school all the way. Hated cell phones, TV's & computers. But he could have a conversation with you like no one else could & make the best steak & egg breakfast you ever had with a strong cup of coffee. I miss that guy....
CedricAda Gear and Outdoors I agree with you. The only tools I own that are worthy of passing down to my son are tools that I paid good money for & did not get at Harbor Freight or something like that. Cheap tools seem nice at first, but they quickly let you down if you actually use them a few times.
Dude is funny as heck. I'm not a pro but I think you can really hear the difference in the axes when chopping. The small forest axe (and wetterlings to a sl lesser extent) has a reverberating "thwok" sound when the others are more like a "whack" and the difference in the bite is evident as well.
Say Heah Tac'ie, Go American, Hurray for the Red, White and Blue. Yeah Tac'ie Council came out with the Wood Craft Pack Axes. I got the 24" with the heavy duty sheath with sling. I bet you'd give it a 10.,,.
They better be a lot better than the Trailboss, they COST 5 times as much. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me, I appreciate it sir Tac.
Considering how much you paid for the Gran and the Wet, compared to the other two ✌️, doesn't really justify the price point in my opinion..... As always thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me Tac, I appreciate it sir
with a slightly better edge on it the cold steel would bite more and that would improve its chopping and splitting, did you use these axes in factory condition?
I compared chopping and splitting of my Council Tool Velvicut Hudson Bay and Wetterlings Bushman. The Velvicut performed a little better in both categories.
I wish you could of used my Modde Iltis Oxhead, I have the 5" thin face on a 19" White Hickory Handle. It's a sharp one, infact very sharp German made, but it's a heavy head around 2 1/2 lbs All my friends said it won't split, but because it's the in and sharp the weight just splits like how do you say it, Mora ? anyhow Yeah I love my Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe but this Iltis Oxhead is becoming one of my Fav's. I don't know why I didn't use it alot. But Man once I started to Axe Tap my Iltis. It just makes short work out of it. I guess I felt it was a little to heavy to carry, but I figured a way to carry it and now it's becoming a Mofa heh heh heh
so for cutting the shallow edge did the trick & for splitting the longer blade, at least that's what im seeing , guess should try to get a axe with a longer blade length & yet a shallow edge grind & see how it works....
Say Heah Tac't, Yeah, I like 14" Estwing Hatchet and my 20" Gransfors Bruks, so I split the difference and got a Hultafors Bruks 17" Agdor range Hatchet and no regrets, Size is right down the middle and the 1 3/4lbs head makes it a win, win, , ,
Say Heah Tac't, Did you know that until 2011 Wetterlings made axes for Husqvarna, Then after that tgeir made by Hultafors Bruks, I got a Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet and it's awesome. So I got another good deal, But this Time I got the 26" Husqvarna since their made by Hultafors Bruks, It's a beauty that humzzzzz.
if you're going to review axes you might take a look at the Roy undhill wood right using axes vid .just a thought . you should be able to knock out some chips . or maybe bucking logs with an axe.
+Tactical right on man. Safety First man! BTW, love the video as always. Good stuff. Thanks for the schf28 review awhile back. Bought 1 a month ago and is still a boss after excessive use.
I love u to pieces but, u can't count...ty for the video...trying to figure out which one I want to take with me for bigger logs....my bigboy or katanaboy paired with an axe.
I have 3 gransfors and a wetterlings and i wouldn’t buy anything else especially from cold steel or condor for an axe anyway unless I wanted a beater axe even got the leather neck wrap for my small forest axe definitely will always be my pack axe unless it blows up and I need a new one probably buy another gransfors cause axes don’t blow up the small forest axe isn’t a splitter got a wetterlings splitting axe heavy but splits like crazy for those bigger logs I’d definitely get a splitting axe but who’s gonna pack a 7 pound axe for hiking.
+The knife life look at omahaknife.com they keep them in stock for $125. I live in omaha and was just there the other day and they had like 5 small forest axes on the shelf, plus whatever they might keep in the back.
Totem Tommy dumb question... i got a granfors (meaning a hickory handle) and i was thinking about taping it too (my accuacy is not the best lately) what kind of tape should i use for that? i'm worried that it damages the wood if i just use some random duct tape...
You're the best, dude. Great to see a guy just having a blast testing his tools. Plus the data you got is pretty sound, too. Great work, Tac!
CedricAda Gear and Outdoors thanks mang
Does anyone else count to 10 in their head every single time or is it just me?
i do
Good review and test.
I like the difference between the shape of the head of the Gransfors and Wetterlings, i didn't know that. Thanks for showing !!
FloFloNL anytime bro
IMHO

Granforsbruks axes are so good. The Swedish sure know what thay are doing 🇸🇪
I think your tests rock, Tac. Maybe not completely scientific but real world use is what I like to see! I already have the cold steel just because it was so freaking cheap and splits like a mo-fo. Probably better get a gfb too... ;) Anyway, awesome work brother, thank you!
Neat comparisons ,, but I'm sold on that Gransfors Bruks no doubt !
Kirk Veesaert high 5

Heirloom tools are the best for evoking memories of the last owners. I think the current focus on quality tools again can only be a good thing.
CedricAda Gear and Outdoors I agree with you. id take the gransfors every day of the week
+Sid Organ aw yeah
Hipster

Good review, Tactical. The Gransfors looks like a good choice.
***** I luv it brother

Good vid as they comparisons are good stuff...I sure like that Gransbruk or whatever it is...
+Scott F. the one you speak of is the almighty gransfors bruks, and they are pretty amazing actually. expensive, but impressive.
the tactical show where the intro changes every episode XD XD
Absolute Zero haha
That grandfors bruks is a champ that what I would go with.
joel Velazquez me to
Awesome vid as always Tac
woo hoo, axe goodness!!!
Considering how much you paid for the Gran and the Wet, compared to the other two ✌️, doesn't really justify the price point in my opinion..... As always thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me Tac, I appreciate it sir
great vid
Nice test keep up the good work
+Pakkerotten will do
There was a HUGE knot on the back-side of the big log that you split with the wetterlings, i guess it would have done it if not for that.
Great Video Homie ! thanks for sharing.....ThumbZ UP !
DeeMan Kustumz high 5

Smashing review, I like sharp things.
+Cupcake Madness me to!
This is why I carry a 26 inch Wetterlings. Long handle, big head to split.
Thanks for sharing man. Awesome review
+disposable762 thanks!
great vid tac!
tactical wars thanks mang
Nice comparison tac! :)
Totem Tommy thanks mang
Nothing to do with this awesome video but, dude, we be needing some zombie episodes.
douchebaggins7 I hear ya
I compared chopping and splitting of my Council Tool Velvicut Hudson Bay and Wetterlings Bushman. The Velvicut performed a little better in both categories.
I think the splitting needs a re-test. The big piece the Wetterling got was bulging IMO
Good vid
+Kim peterson thanks sis!
You need to throw a Husqvarna Multipurpose axe into the mix.
+KBJ714 I would like one
I would love to send you one but i live in the UK and the shipping would cost more than the axe! sorry
One word. Fiskars!
wetterlings backcountry is discontinued, any other ones similar you'd reccomend?
Would have been nice to see the gran fors felling axe too.
+William Scherr I want one

Good comparison vid Tac. Have you found someone to send you out that mag / magazines you're looking for yet?.
Tyler Murphy no sir
***** Sh!tty bro good luck : )
***** A Tac I looked online I can't find any either. Have you tried calling all your local gun shops.

+Belnap Custom Knives (Courage and Foresight with God's Aide) you rock
Please test and review the gransfors bruk large splitting axe and you make nice videos i'm subscribed
Jardim Manuel Pijpker I need one
If u r in the UK there is a sale for some cold steels large hunting knives 20 percent off only on some of the knives
so for cutting the shallow edge did the trick & for splitting the longer blade, at least that's what im seeing , guess should try to get a axe with a longer blade length & yet a shallow edge grind & see how it works....

The condor is not meant for those chores,it's a carving axe
Yup that's what I use mine for
Fenrir Lokisson But it's a test of chopping/splitting
it is,that's my point, that axe was not meant for chopping or splitting,no wonder it was the worst,is like using a sport car in a rally
I must of missed part I. How long ago was that?
shadowdance4666 last year check my shootout playlist
Brother I bought the Cold Steel cause of your older video!!
SUFFICIENT SURVIVAL aw yeah
Thought the Cold Steel the best overall from what i saw.
same here
im sold on the cold steel for a splitter, Muhahahaha......
+CAMO7357 its got lots of power
if you're going to review axes you might take a look at the Roy undhill wood right using axes vid .just a thought .
you should be able to knock out some chips .
or maybe bucking logs with an axe.
Is this the same wood you tried the Marbles on!
Michael StJohn lol close
Michael StJohn and is the GB worth the price against the competitors? I use an axe about 20 times a year.
+Michael StJohn if you don't use it much than you might be better off with the coldsteel
Tactical, have you swept the chimney of your new house brother?
Jimmy Jo Bawb yes sir ready to go!
+Tactical right on man. Safety First man! BTW, love the video as always. Good stuff. Thanks for the schf28 review awhile back. Bought 1 a month ago and is still a boss after excessive use.
Did we get part 3 ??
The Condor shouldn't be there, as it's a shop ax. If you factor in value, the Cold Steel wins.
What happen to the Estwing 26"
I love u to pieces but, u can't count...ty for the video...trying to figure out which one I want to take with me for bigger logs....my bigboy or katanaboy paired with an axe.
+highonimmi thanks sis! soon ill do part 3
***** fucking tease....I love it!!!
ill do this next review with my pants off.. lol
sorry ive just bin drinkin some beer so I say stupid shit sometimes :)
***** hahhahahhha...dude, its all good...I meant tease with the review...ya ding dong....

I counted 5 strikes with the trail boss
Man would i love a nice high quality swedish or german axe but i live in Canada so they wont fricken ship em' to me
+Sillylittlelumberjack that sucks :(
Hey at can't suggestions for a good cheap fixed blade
Ment to say hey tac
+liam mc cusker schrade makes a lot of affordable blades
+Tactical thanks I'll Check them out
The coldsteel is too big, not very packable. It should be competing against the 26" axes.
Man I really wanna send u something tactical but idk where u live hahahhaha i see u get gifts all the time I wanna send u one also hahaha
+gabriel aguilar check my about page for info
Where did you get the Gransfors bruk?
+The knife life look at omahaknife.com they keep them in stock for $125. I live in omaha and was just there the other day and they had like 5 small forest axes on the shelf, plus whatever they might keep in the back.
+The knife life amazon is where youll get it the cheapest
5 on last
Why do you tape under the heads?
Abe Linkon It protects the wood handle from over strikes
Totem Tommy dumb question...
i got a granfors (meaning a hickory handle) and i was thinking about taping it too (my accuacy is not the best lately)
what kind of tape should i use for that? i'm worried that it damages the wood if i just use some random duct tape...
I've found athletic tape and electrical tape work fairly well. If you're super worried you could just use a string wrap like paracord or twine.
tact i love u, not in a gay way
its funny I been watching your videos for almost a year now and I just realized I wasn't subscribed
