    Speaking to Amanpour just after inspecting the frontlines on Thursday, Syrskyi said that there’s no doubt that Ukraine is outgunned and outmanned as it tries to defend itself against the Russian aggression.
    Syrskyi was named Ukraine’s commander in chief in February, after President Volodymyr Zelensky fired Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi. He took over at a particularly difficult time for Ukraine.
    The months-long delays in the delivery of US military assistance caused critical ammunition shortages.
    At the same time, Ukraine was struggling to replenish its troops, exhausted and diminished after fighting Russia’s relentless offensive for two years.
    Syrskyi said recruiting more soldiers was a priority. The Ukrainian government then passed a controversial mobilization law, requiring all men between 18 and 60 to register with Ukraine’s military and to carry their registration documents on them at all times - an effort to make the recruitment process more transparent and fair.
    Seven months later, the new recruits are arriving to the frontlines. But several commanders have told CNN that not all of the new soldiers are ready to fight and are routinely abandoning their positions.
    Syrskyi told Amanpour that the delays in US military assistance did cause major setbacks on the battlefield and led to a slump in morale - something he admitted was still an issue.
    He said he takes frequent trips to the frontlines and makes sure he spends time with his troops.

He begs for weapons from the US, America and Europe in Germany, asking for long-range missiles. They explained to him that you will not change anything on the battlefield, there was no victory and there will never be one.

    • @christopherl4249
      @christopherl4249 Месяц назад

      Not supporting to the fullest extent? What does this mean exactly? Does this mean that the US sends every defense system and leaves itself bare? Even if it did Ukraine would still lose.
      The US and the West West does not have the means. Russia out-produces the West in the major weapons of war with at least a 3 to 1 ratio in shells as well has greater production in missiles, tanks, etc. There have been numerous articles in the mainstream media attesting to this fact and the MSM is always downplaying Russian capabilities and up-playing the West’s. Last year Jan Stoltenberg (then Secretary of NATO) complained that NATO inventories were getting depleted. Russia has effectively dealt with Western “wonder weapons” like the Abrams, ATTACMs etc. and have more effective electronic warfare (also begrudgingly admitted by the MSM) to effectively counter US weapons. Russia can tap into Chinese and North Korean sources for additional arms where the West is tapped out (look at the recent drive by the Czech president scouring the world for additional shells that ended up short).
      Recently there have been calls to send far more planes like the F-16s. The people who think this is going to do the trick are either ignorant, or lying. It take years and thousands of hours of flying to become proficient in these planes. The US could send their entire air force to Ukraine; it would quickly get shot down by more proficient Russian pilots, as well as one of the most thorough and deadly air defense systems in the world - legacy Soviet systems in Ukraine held the Russian air force at bay for 2 years. It took Russia 2 years to systematically destroy it.
      As a source I site Col. Daniel Davis ( has had Alex as a guest on deep dive) who has been dead accurate calling these Western follies.
      Your comment "not supporting Ukraine to the fullest extent" will probably become the epitaph of this war to be uttered by politicians after Ukraine’s total defeat. Like everything else coming out of Western leaders it will be a lie.

    First of all, Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 was illegal and violated international commitments. In 1991, the Russian leader met with the leaders of Ukraine and Belarus at Khrushchev's villa and promised to respect each other's borders. Later, in 1994, Russia met with the UK and the US in Budapest and signed a pledge to "guarantee the security and territorial integrity of Ukraine" in exchange for Ukraine handing over more than 1,500 nuclear warheads to Russia. However, 20 years later, in 2014, Russia broke the pledge and forcibly annexed Crimea. Putin illegally broke this pledge. According to the laws of human society, if a contract is broken, Russia is obligated to return all the goods it received (in this case, the nuclear warheads) to Ukraine.

    At the beginning of the war, BBC reporters were almost everywhere and in many cases, when this older soldier came forward to speak, the rest of the troops stood at attention. No one had insignia so we could only guess that this person must be a high-ranking officer. He has been at every locale along the battlefront since Feb. 2022. He has the respect and admiration of the troops who serve under him. Instead of this reporter asking him about UA soldiers who have left their posts, why couldn't she also ask about the many heroes that have emerged from the UA ranks?
    Gen. Syrskyi is a pragmatic and methodical soldier who is the right man at the right time for this job. On day one he gave an order to his staff to find out which army groups were performing well and those that were not. He wanted to find out what was working well so that he could re-shape and model those units that weren't doing well.
    Think of General Vo Nguyen Giap (Vietnam) as one of the greatest unassuming generals who fought against the French and the US Colossus and his country prevailed, albeit at a huge cost. General Syrskyi is also leading his army against the ruzzian colossus and his country will prevail (there is no "win" in war). Just as in the refrain of another war-time leader who told Congress "...give us the tools and we will finish the job...!
