@@nick5062 I'm not Russian. I have no interest in Geography. I'll bet you aren't Russian either, which makes it all the more STRANGE. Rus' began in Kyiv and spread throughout what is today Russia. The history is VERY COMPLEX but these are ONE PEOPLE. Any difference that existed between them was a very long time ago. They are the people of Rus..... Moscow and Kyiv. Ukraine means "farthest region." So, why would a separate country name itself "the farthest region"? If you're in your own country YOU ARE NOT FAR AWAY FROM IT!!! Start thinking!!! It is the farthest western frontier of the Empire of Rus. One empire, one Rus geographically relative to the established capital of Moscow. This was true throughout Tsarist times. It was Stalin, your Marxist patron saint, who CREATED the Ukrainian Republic. It never existed prior to Stalin. However, these "national" aspirations were triggered and fueled by WESTERNERS in the persons of Papal Roman emissaries who created the Ukrainian Catholic Church out of Western Ukrainians and Poles in the Union of Brest Litovsk (1500s). This is the root of decisiveness in RUS. This western interference then, like now is the source of Russian division. It's goal today is the LOOTING of ALL RUSSIA that began in the 1990s courtesy of Western atheist Jewish Oligarchs. Vladimir Putin put an end to this in the 1990s and saved and rebuilt the Russian federation. Understand????
Interesting analogy! 🤔 But if Ukraine is turning the tables, what strategies might Russia use next to regain the upper hand? How do you see this dynamic evolving? 🔄🌍
Because Russia has the longest border in the world, by far, with a third world economy. Their border is largely undefended. They have radar but their tech is crap. They've always been a paper tiger but our military contractors needed a boogeyman to sell more hardware. A good sneeze would bring down Russia. Just wait until, Ukraine figures out they can win, and I mean take Russia so a complete turn around. Oh the world would cut them off to defend Russia but the Ukraine could win this one. The world will defend Russia because they are a world power and world powers protect each other from smaller countries. If you want fair I;d try another planet.

...but what is the point of crossing the border into an area where no Russian troops are present because that's not where the war is actually happening. What exactly are they hoping to achieve by capturing Sudzha?
@@sarahbrown5073 There are a lot of advantages to this move that jump out to me. 1) Taking a section of poorly defended land requires Russia to make a choice, divide their forces between retaking territory and continuing an offensive or ceding the ground. 2) This might help Ukraine in negotiating a peace agreement. Saying we want Russia to leave Ukraine is a lot weaker of a position than saying we'll leave these places in Russia if you leave these places in Ukraine. Alternatively, we'll give you this part of Ukraine that your occupying if you give us that part of Russia we're occupying. 3) Taking a section of poorly defended land reminds Russia that it needs to keep forces in defensive positions or another incursion will happen somewhere else. Every soldier guarding a boarder is one less that can be used in an offensive. 4) If Russia decides to retake, it opens a new front requiring new supply lines and the more supply lines Russia needs, the more supplies they need to use to maintain them. Yes, these a shorter lines but the didn't exist before so it increases to price of war for Russia and thus the sustainability. 5) They can fortify can the occupied territory requiring Russia lose troops on their own soil and destroy their own infrastructure making them foot the bill for rebuilding. In short, in a war it's better to have your opponent bombing their own territory then your territory. Basically, the benefit is forcing Russia to use extra resources to fight a war in Russia limiting their resources to fight a war in Ukraine. They're likely not taking the land to hold it, their taking the land to force Russia to spend blood and treasure to kick them out but if Russia doesn't take it back, that land becomes a Ukrainian bargaining chip.
It’s amazing and at the same time shameful how the second army in the world cannot defeat the army of Ukraine, which is 5 times smaller and has never fought🤣.
Ukrainian forces are still seeking to advance deeper into Russia's Kursk region, but appear to be coming up against increased Russian resistance more than a week since Ukraine launched its unprecedented incursion across the border. Russia's Defense Ministry and pro-Kremlin military bloggers reported Tuesday that Ukrainian forces again launched multiple attempts overnight to break through Russian defensive lines roughly 20 km, or about 12 miles, inside the Kursk region, seeking to further expand a bridgehead captured there in the first days of the Ukrainian offensive operation. Those reports claimed the Ukrainian attacks were largely rebuffed, but that Russian positions remained under pressure. More Russian forces continue to also arrive to counterattack Ukraine's surprise attack, which is the first foreign incursion into Russia since World War II. On the border of Ukraine's Sumy region, foreign journalists, including The New York Times, reported seeing columns of Ukrainian troops and armored vehicles continuing to cross over into Russia, passing unhindered through the border crossing. Ukrainian troops are trying to expand their area of control from the border town of Sudzha in multiple directions. They have been attempting for several days to capture the village of Korenevo, which is about 40 km northwesterly, which would allow them to move toward a key highway, but so far have been unable to dislodge Russian units, according to Russian military bloggers. Ukraine's top commander, Gen. Oleksandr Syrskiy, told President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday that Ukraine controlled roughly 1,000 square km, or about 386 square miles, of Russian territory in Kursk.
There is no single inch of Russia in Muscovy to move toward, Ukrainian troops are moving into a historically and ethnically Ukrainian region called Slobodskaja Ukraina that was occupied by Muscovy since 1918, so this is not an incursion but liberation.

@@alx2xs Putin himself. He called it a "special military operation", which is defined by NATO as a short lived military exercise involving unconventional forces. In fact for a long time the Kremlin even refused to call it a war, just a short "3 day operation" with the stated goal of completely demilitarizing Ukraine. The short duration was intended to dissuade western support efforts and demoralize Ukrainian forces. The initial attack was clearly to take Kyiv as quickly as possible. This attack failed spectacularly and lead to a clear change in goals and tactics over the coming months. This is obvious just by looking at battle maps from either source over the course of the first year of the conflict. By the end of the year, Putin was forced to publically acknowledge that the "operation" was taking far longer than expected. But by this point Russian media had been memory holing the original stated goals of the war for months so it was easier for him to imply that this was the plan from the beginning.

Sigh... no mention of the tactical gains by Ukraine in the Kursk region. They have already cut electricity supplies to military factories, gained control over a railway that is a supply line to Belgorod and gained control over a gas pipeline station. There have also been further incursions south of this first push and I suspect Belgorod (a thorn in the side of Ukraine since the Russian invasion) will be under threat. This push also moves Russian rocket and artillery away from Ukrainian border cities. Why analysts are so puzzled by this incursion baffles me.

This western interference then, like now is the source of Russian division. ...but what is the point of crossing the border into an area where no Russian troops are present because that's not where the war is actually happening. What exactly are they hoping to achieve by capturing Sudzha?
It's shocking seing people defending Russia
What is shocking is lack of resistance on ru side by the people.
A lot of the defenders consisted of young conscripts and Chechen fighters.
