🌳 Nice tree.
Here is a tip, before you add the hot glue bark, glue strands of unraveled jute twine onto the trunk. When you start to apply and streak the hot glue it basically saturates the strands of twine and draws them into the streaked pattern. It makes a much finer and less-blobby finish.
Scratch Bashing Very interesting, thanks for the tip!
And I've seen it being used for very realistic ivy too, so that could also be a nice addition somewhere on the trunk, make it look even more ancient :D
Haha, the post it note stuck to the forearm cracked me up 😂
Thanks for the shout out man...Great tree.
Thank you Scotty!
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT all crafters benefit when they channel their inner Scotty!
YEAH! Hot glue bark is definitely the way to go! This tree definitely has some Warcraft world tree vibes going on. Well done!
Yes I agree!
I would have never guessed the hot glue bark would look so awesome
With a bit of difficult colouring it would make an amazing Avatar Holy Tree
Very nice work. I particularly like the mushrooms. They just add that little extra bit that makes the whole thing pop.
I totally agree, thank you Patrick.
Mushrooms are a really nice touch, did you make them or buy them.
I know this video is old now, but it's perfect for what I needed, my party are fighting a dessicated dryad who's been warped by the Plane of Fire, so I wanted to make a giant dead tree and the early stages of these instructions are ideal for that.
Thank you for sharing... I love hearing it helped!
The way the leaves come together is just mind blowing.
Thanks, it does pull the project together!
The "Old Trick" on that "poly fibre" was to fix it on with hair spray.
looks pretty amazing. wouldn't really call this 'easy' though, because theres still a lot of effort involved
Thank you ... well there are much harder ways to make these but I hear ya.
Easy is about skill not effort. Effort doesn't require skill but just a willingness to get the task done.
@@wildbillsworkshop3410 I would prefer skill over effort. Sadly you can have effort without skill and effort with skill but not skill without effort :/
Agree with John, they are easy if you have the patience, for the gluing, e.g.
However, that’s about $30 worth of supplies.
It’s reflected in the quality but can be daunting if you needed a forest.
Poly fibre is great for vines & moss when it’s stretched to an almost imperceptible thinness. Have you tried these trees with a thinner layer under the clump foliage? It would probably still hold the clumps like a mesh.
For a ‘fantasy tree’ though, the carpet coverage works well.
👍🏻👍🏻, as usual
Man... you are Bob Ross in crafting those artefacts
That's a pretty sweet compliment … thanks :)
Good trees are hard to do. You nailed it with this one. Nice.
Thanks Bas :)
After coloring it, it looks like a tree, love your tree, thanks
Thanks 👍
I have been wracking my brain for a few weeks trying to figure out how to foliage-up some bare plastic trees a friend found in his attic from who-knows-when. This video helped me find the right techniques and materials! Thanks!
You got it, glad it helped !
great video, nice trees! When painting on top of the hot glue a great primer to use is a 50/50 mix of PVA glue and wall spackle. It takes paint really well and dries with a slight flex so that it won't crack over time.
Cool tip, thanks David!
Such a nice build. Wow.
Also, that forearm sticky note made me giggle. Improvise and overcome :p
Thanks. Yeah I wanted it in the shot somewhere haha.
Amazing! Truly the best tree build I’ve seen!
And cost is low and fun, creativity and imagination looks to have no limits !
This was placed in my favs folder!
Thank you for an amazing fun video
You got it Shon! I really appreciate that.
Awesome such a clever resourceful build .It can be scaled down to suit even oo gauge model railway type hobbies. Thankyou once again for sharing
Thank you Leslee... this certainly can be scaled down. I needed this pretty large for my campaign but no reason you can make a bunch of smaller ones :)
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT your welcome .Any chance of you showing us how to make a spooky funfair ghost Train in future.I know it's not d&d or medieval etc but there are a lot of model train hobbyists out there?❤️
A tree like this could look really good with a door and some little four-pane windows in (and a surprisingly colossal interior). Great place to live for a druid who likes being raided weekly.
Totally.
Trees are so hard to get right, this looks great!
Thank you Brenden :)
This is exactly what I was looking for so I can paint my hollow logs I'm making! And I know it's a bit of an old video but one thing I did after hot gluing the bark texture onto a paper towel roll, I got some watered down wood glue and glued pieces of tissue paper (the kind for gift wrapping) to it with a cheap paint brush. Once it dries, it's super sturdy and has a nice paintable texture and surface!
Interesting... thanks for the suggestion!
What a great build. Plus, a nice video to change things up a little. I really like the mushrooms, they pop big time. I also like the bird placement, it seems real. One always drinks while the other is on guard...lol
Thank you Tim :) It was a nice change of pace and was a refreshing build for sure.... and I agree totally about the mushrooms and birds.
"The little tree series" Now you do sound like Bob Ross! :D
Perry Grosshans I know right haha.
Happy little mistakes.
That there is a fine happy little tree there. Great job!
Thanks Kevin !
A european squirrel would pop much more with red fur an white belly. But the rest is awesome. I will steal your idea for the mushrooms for an ent I made ;)
My brother said the same thing when I showed him this..... :)
Maybe that isnt a squirrel but a druid in disguise! :D
I love that hot glue method of making tree bark. I'm making some fallen tree trunks for a campfire diorama and this method is making it a breeze.
Glad you like it Greg :)
Looks great! Two things though. 1 - putting green-stuff on to a painted surface can easily break/fall off. Superglue would help but it's still on a painted surface, which can crack/chip off. 2 - as an alternative to hot-glue, you could try over-bake sculpt clay, it's usually pretty cheap. Depends what's cheaper, glue or clay. Great ends result :)
Thanks for the tips!
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT I'm picking up some aluminium wire in different sizes to do the same sort of builds. One other thing I noticed, if you want to save some $ on the bulk of the leaves under the nice clump greens, instead of using hobby product, you could use cotton wool, and just air brush it dark green. Haven't tried it but might be worth a try?
While dwarven terrain might not have been my thing this is definitely something that interests me. I'm in the process of making a dead/withered tree covered in spider webs. I'll be taking notes from your video.
I'm glad you enjoyed the build. I do have a dead tree build as well on my channel. I'll add a link here: ruclips.net/video/m0udp30x-yc/видео.html
I've seen people using Halloween webbings strengthened with Mod Podge or PVA for durable tabletop ready spiderwebs that can even support the weight of minis, look up Critical Crafting for that video
@@jherazob Thanks for the info I'll check it out
Magnificent!!! I like that squirrel detail... so awesome.
Thanks, that branch was screaming for some 4 legged animal.
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT Of course! A cow! Yes!
Dude, that's dope af. I reallly appreciate your work and your commitment to sharing it with the rest of us. Your work inspires me to do more and really focus on the quality of my work. Thank you.
Thanks Joshua.... I'm glad you like it and are enjoying the content. 👍
The beginning was like release the Kraken! Then a true started emerging , thought you hands were leather by now. You should make a tree forest that has bridges and houses etc. Turned out really good.
Yeah tell me about it, the "Kraken" gave me some ideas haha.
Ok. Painting the pupils of a 28mm squirrel. That's hardcore 👍
Paul Gibbons You know it haha :)
Love it! I use a similar technique when I teach kids how to make trees (Yours came out WAY better!!!).
Thanks, yeah it's a pretty simple yet effective technique for sure. Kudos to you for opening the door and teaching our youth the skills of crafting. 👍
There are not even words for how much I love this!
Thank you so much :)
This will be my first wargaming project! Simple methods that are not too intimidating, but the end result is awesome! Hope mine turn out half as nice. Excellent and well-laid out video!
Thank you Christopher !!
Great build! Fantastic looking giant fairy tree. Loved the background music to match the fairy tale build. Yeah, those embellishments were awesome. Love the fungus! You could go nuts with nests and stuff. A wasp or bee hive! Over all loved the gnarly root look. And yeah that hot glue bark is the stuff! I've used that technique from DM Scotty for a few things (a King Kong style log bridge, a giant stump, smaller trees). Relaticely easy to do with great results. I also used mod podge to cover those with no problems. Looking forward to your next tree build!
Thank you Perry. What a cool idea... the bee hive. I'll have to remember that one !
Best looking trees I've found so far. Love the look of these and am using the process in my own terrain builds now! Thanks for the fantastic content!
Thank you and I'm glad you're enjoying the content!
The glue texturing is amazing. That's essential to the success of this tree (among other things). I am intimidated just to try that!
You got it, give it a try.
Bruh this is amazing. Adding BULK like this on a big tree has been really intimidating, and seemed like it would take a lot of material. I never thought to use poly stuffing. Love the squirrel.
Thanks :) Now it's time for you to give it a shot!
Very cool and very unique build! Reminds me of the tree in the elf village where they did their rituals in the Eragon Trilogy!... Well done man. You now have my subscription sir.
Thank you WayBeyond :)
Super awesome tree tutorial! Putting this on my list of must do’s
Awesome... thanks !!
This is so awesome! I've been thinking about creating my own terrain. Definietly going to make a tree like this. Subscribed!
Billy Mark Awesome, it’s a great starter project. Thanks for subscribing.
This looks really Fun-Gus! I'll see myself out.
Nah. Corny, but you can stay.
@@baskoller5506 that tree is well made in a Bas relief style.
The best tutorial I've seen yet and the tree looks amazing. Thank you for taking your time to show us how it's done. 😊
You are so welcome!
Thank you. This is an excellent video. Loved how you showed paint colors. Very helpful.
Awesome, glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback.
Great job! One tip: paper towel painted onto the foil with thinned PVA glue would have saved you a LOT of glue and - being wood based - naturally dries to look like bark.
Great tip, thank you for sharing!
I'm making a medieval roundhouse, and this would be an awesome addition - thank you so much for the tutorial :-).
You're very welcome! Happy you found the video :)
Im speechless. This is a must build for me. Hands down exactly what i was loooking for.
So good to hear.... enjoy the build !!
Awesome build! Can't wait to start trying some of these techniques out. Keep it up!!
You got it, thanks for watching.
Wow, this is insane. So professional and informative and just so realistic.. Thanks so much.
You got it Diane, thank you for watching :)
That's absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait to try this!
Thank you M.
Aluminum foil is my go-to for trees as well 👍
very cool. love the little critters and fungi
Yeah, they were calling out to me for this build.
Great video thanks! I use a lot of evergreen bushes but have to always put a bunch of sealer on so the needles don't fall off, this is much needed bro thx again!
You got it, glad it helped.
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT your videos always do bro!
That is just amazing! This project goes to the front of my
line.
Thank you so much Gene :)
This is gorgeous! Well done!
Thank you :)
This is one fine tree! Should be the center of the table or diorama it is used on, very very nice! And I think easier than the usual wire armature technique :D
Thank you, and yes it's planned to be the center of attention when it hits the table :)
Wow super effective with the mushrooms, very cool. Thanku so much 😃
I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT I certainly did..I recently made a forrest book nook and made some of the same mushrooms. I must sdmitt they look pretty great sitting on the side of the tree 😉
Man this build is some next level stuff! great job on the tree!
Rick L Thank you Rick 🤘
I love plants. Thanks man.
You got it, thanks for watching.
This tree looks awesome! Now I want to start crafting again :D
Alex Voznesenski Awesome, go for it!
This tree is amazing!
Thank you :)
It’s crazy how this started out as a paper towel roll and tin foil.
Thank you.
Super detailed work again. I love how it looks. I could see that tree as the big center of a fairy kind of scene. Thing is.. the fairies would have to be really small. Or perhaps some fireflies. Thing is.. I wouldn't know how to make that :)
The tree looks totally cool but also a bit delicate. Not sure if I would dare to use it for a game. For dioramas this is great though.
Thanks Kylara. The tree really feel solid and the canopy can withstand a decent amount of shaking and movement. The tree sits flat and solid on the table as well. Give it a go!
Loved watching this. Talk about creative and inspiring. Definately got to have have a go. Love the tree. Thanks SO much.
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
love it, started this as soon as I saw this. Inspired me to take another whack at my other tree attempt
Awesome, you got this Heath.
This vid going in my library of favs. WOW wow wow. The cheap factor is impressive!❤
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the video :)
Very cool idea! I like this a lot. Thank you for sharing with us! I may have to use this to make some scenery for the battle reports I do myself! I think they will show up very well on camera.
Thank you. I think these would work well for your battle reports.
OMG! This is fantastinc, can't wait to test it myself
Thank you Jacopo!
Your stuff looks amazing, but I have to admit I don't enjoy your videos as much as some other crafters because I usually come away thinking the builds are too complex and require more precision than I can muster with the skills I have so far. But your thumbnail said easy, the title said easy, so I figured I'd trust it and take a look … and whoa. I mean, I'd go through every (mini) stick of glue I've got and not be finished, but yeah, I do have all the stuff needed to make the dead tree. And I could have the stuff to make the live one in 24 hours. And yeah, I could do this. I'm floored by how freakin' sweet it looks, and I could totally build it. I might need to. 😃
One step at a time Joseph... you got it :) !!
That came out great! I am going to try it . Ty
Awesome! Have fun... and thank you.
This is absolutely amazing work thank you for the inspiration now I have a good idea of how to make my trees..
Awesome ! I'm glad the video helped :)
That looks fantastic! Now, just 9 more of those.
I’ve thought about it :). Thanks Joshua!
The roots are my favorite part of this build.
Thanks Art. Yep, I loved making them.
Anyway, brilliant craft and awesome video John, loved it 💪🏻👍🏻
Thanks Sean. I was happy with the outcome, and as far as the post it note... I needed somewhere to place it for the shot haha.
Incredible, can't wait to try something like this for a Halloween decoration.
Oh yeah, you can mod this tree for a Halloween decoration real nice! Thanks.
So vibrant ... amazing
Thank you !
Absolutely stunning!
Thank you!!
I’m gonna try this
Just finished DMing a party through The Sunless Citadel. This would have been amazing for the Gulthias Tree.
Oh yeah!
Thanks for the video! I was looking for an easier less expensive way to make a trunk for a 1:12 room box and this is perfect...now to go get paint and lots of glue sticks 😆
I'm glad you found the video helpful, thank you for watching Angela!
Not only is this super simple, that Apple Barrel paint is really good for a cheap acrylic
Thank you.... and yes, I agree..
i wish i was this talented
One step at a time Hannah…. You got this!
Wonderful build! :)
I personally would recommend spray gluing some different flocks in layers to the top of the canopy to get a nice more realistic look.
I agree 100% I spoke with Luke from Geek Gaming about this the other day. Future builds you'll see this technique for sure.
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT That's exactly where I got the idea from. :) His tree canopy stuff looks awesome!
Precioso!!!!. Me ha encantado. Un trabajo magnífico!!!!
¡Muchas gracias!
Woah that's bigger than it looked on Instagram! Nice work dude
Oh yeah, it's a hefty tree. I'm planning on some smaller ones in the near future as well.
Looks amazing
Thank you Barry :)
What an amazing build.
Thank you :)
Amazing tree sir!!!
Thank you Buddy.
This is cool. Ice been wanting to make my own tree. Ever since I saw the dead evil looking tree in Tim Burtons Sleepy Hallow, Ice been wanting to make one like it.
Thanks... time to make that tree :)
So very cool! I'm inspired!!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing that :)
This is the best of the best! Great job!
Thank you Phil :) !!
This vid is great! Really informative and inspirational!
Thank you Luke!
Well that is just beautiful! I love the fungus and animals, very nice touches. I really like that this used easy to find materials, unlike some other tree builds I’ve seen, but still looks fantastic! About how long did the whole project take?
Thank you :). Start to finish 3 nights.
Excellent 🤩 Very beautiful tree 👍
Thank you!
Awesome job!
Thank you.
I love that tree!!! It is amesome!!!
Thank you :)
Bob Ross!😂😂😂
Happy little squirrel, in a happy little tree!
Yes they are :)
Those Fungi actually do hold water I've a photo of some doing exactly that from one of my walks. I've been hand sculpting haunted trees this week like the ones from green stuff world. I did exactly what you did with the hot glue and lost some flesh off my knuckle. couldn't be helped the trees where stumps and difficult to hold. I like your paint job on this, and I think I might have a go at sculpting a squirrel a I've really got into that now so much so I'm looking for a mini sculpture course ( bit awkward at the moment because of the virus but as soon as they become available I'm going.) but I think ill give the squirrel a shot,
Thanks andy, have you seen my video on sculpting rats? That might help you out a bit. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/OjNFL-y5ZW4/видео.html
I think Plasti-Dip would have worked as a primer over hot glue, since it’s a rubberized coating.
Fungophile here! LOVE the little mushrooms you added!! 🍄 This tree is so awesome!
Thank you Sara :) My kids and I just got into mushroom hunting this year :)
Awesome tree with so much added surprises for the onlooker. Loved it. Didn't catch the name of the oil you used ? It looked effective and I've never done anything like that, so copy the pro's eh. Thanks, Rick
I'm glad you liked it Richard :) If you're referring to the black wash, it's a homemade one.
Love it. Can you share some ideas for smaller, cheaper alternatives too!
Thanks, and they are on the horizon :)
