That’s what you think, but if you download a ROM of a game they haven’t sold in a decade, you’d be convinced otherwise. Like seriously they literally don’t make any money off of any sale for anyone buying a Smash Melee copy, because Nintendo stopped producing them almost 2 decades ago. If you buy one today it’s guaranteed to be second hand, and Nintendo literally won’t know. However, despite this fact they literally sued Melee out of EVO because people were using ROMS.
I think there's a pretty big misconception that Nintendo is greedy. If that was truly the case, they wouldn't bother continuing to make games for series with a low amount of sales like Kirby or Metroid.
even if they bring back pokemon games, unless I can purchase them individually, without a subscription service, and for a reasonable price, im pirating it
I think their hold up is they don't wanna sell both versions of one game together without giving it a premium price that some people wont buy. and they cant figure out how to divide them into 2 sets without upsetting people because they like red and sapphire, but red is grouped with ruby, gold, and diamond, while sapphire is grouped with blue, silver, and pearl. they also know that people would want them to be able connect pokemon home, and seems like ALOT of work like it took 4 months for pokemon home to update for PLA and BDSP, presumably because of PLA's different stat system needing to convert smoothly back in fourth. Now imagine them having to do that for gens 1 though 7?
A fair point, but refusing to do ANY rerelease feels like they don't care. If they wanted, they could test the waters with either R/B/Y or R/G/Ru and look at reception. Again, I'm sure there would be a surge of "but HOME???" Regardless of how they tried it
They won't need to do that again, though as Pokemon Bank already does that when you move mons to Home. I'd imagine if such a thing came out it would be a one way transfer like with Let's Go
I suppose that could be true but all the "transfer programming" is there for Gens 1 and 2 as they've released them with Bank support 8 years ago. Same thing for all the 3DS titles within the code of Pokemon Bank. Same thing within the code for Diamond & Pearl, same thing within the code of Black & White, and if they really wanna go the extra mile within the code of Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness for the same thing. I'm not a programmer so I'm most likely oversimplifying and overexaggerating how much effort that would take but from my perspective I see barely a reason to recycle, rewrite a little bit, and reuse the code.

The main thing I think a LOT of people fail to realize is that "Pokemon cares WAAAAAAAAAAY more about the "Pokemon economy" than the players do" To them the issue with re-releasing is connectivity with the new games just like with the VC releases they view they have to set up a transfer method and won't introduce a main series cut off where the Pokemon is just stuck there So they do remakes instead Personally I don't see it happening anytime soon, I doubt they'll ever come to NSO because I don't see how they'd link it with Home but maybe they'll figure something out It's like how non-video game characters will never be in Smash no matter how many people ask, it's a principal of the developers that the core theme of mainline Pokemon is connecting I think the best case scenario is that they copy the Battle Network Legacy collection's set up and treat that as one whole game when figuring out connections
I suspect Transfer Pak Emulation is proving difficult, the Game Boy NSO app already takes care of that and any App the pokemon games would likely just copy code. Also they can't copy Battle Network Legacy Collection as they alongside the Zero Collection are not emulation, instead they were ported over to modern hardware likely having coding updates to allow online. The only issue with transferring both is needing data structure that can work with HOME so likely any transfers from rereleases will be One way only.
Yeah If they can port the 2 gens of pokemon to the 3ds, then that means they have the files and code, they're just not porting them (and if they have the 1st 2 gens, then that likely that other gens are available to be ported or at least worked on), besides if connectivity is the problem, then let me tell you, since the ds and 3ds era, connectivity has always been an issue, that's not the issue, and they know ppl will buy that shit, so they're more likely waiting for if they screw up so bad that they need to make money and fast.
@BalenVanHalen001 The Virtual Console is an Emulation Solution not a port. Any bugs that exist in the original are in the Virtual Console releases including one that lead to Arbitrary Code Execution. "How would they deal with 2 screens" is an insane question to ask. They had a DS virtual console on the Wii U, made by the same people who make the NSO emulation. We've already seen it work just fine. 😆
If anything the should, if they wanted to be sleazy about it, rerelease a physical version of every copy and range the prices between 20 and 70 bucks. Considering people are reselling at extortionate prices
I just hope they don't end the Pokemon Bank to Home service before I finish HeartGold, Black 2, Ultra Sun, and Alpha Sapphire. That sounds like a lot to beat, but I've been working hard and actually finished many Pokemon games lol. I beat Y, Platinum, and Dream Radar long ago
I started playing D.A.M. Champion because I got tired of waiting on the pokemon company to release older games. It is a low budget dark comedy but its still fun to me.
I’m pretty sure they will never do this for a couple reasons. The biggest one is that if they re-release the older games it automatically gets a 18+ rating due to the gambling. Unless they completely take it out (and anger people) then they can’t re-release it, even on NSO. I don’t like this, but seems to be the most likely reason. For now, there are plenty of… other ways to get them
We got nothing on the 25th anniversary game release wise. So going by history, we may get mythical Pokémon releases or something. No old game releases sadly.
I've been wishing for some kind of Legacy collection of Pokemon for a while like since the pandemic began in 2020. The only problem is how they would redistribute the games in said collections. If they release a few collections it'll be like printing money.
It's not happening because GameFreak doesn't want to give away mainline Pokemon for free or break the 'magic' of dual versions by having the two available right away for free. There's also the issue of save states on NSO and GameFreak being incredibly particular about not breaking the 'magic' of Pokemon by say, save stating in front of a legendary, catching it, trading it to a friend and reloading the state. This worked on 3DS because they all used their own emulation wrapper but NSO is one app - disabling Save States for a few titles is a weird look. The other option is selling them separately which is a ridiculous ask given Nintendo themselves are giving away GB/C/A titles as a 'free' addon for the NSO service so GameFreak can't do that. The final factor is that GameFreak wants you to consume the latest entries, not get 3 generations of your Pokemon fix for 'free' on the Switch instead.
Honestly all pokemon company needs to do is gen 1 and 2 on switch online thats compatable with pokemon stadium 1 and 2 exclusively Gen 3, Colosseum and XD are just a bonus
They can't release the games on the NSO because of the incompatibility with Pokémon HOME. But, yeah, they CAN develop a separate software or at least have another studio do it
The fact that we got the virtual console releases for the GB games that were transferable to the current gen on the 3DS is a miracle. I highly doubt we'll see that again. I'll stick to rom hacks and sailin' the high seas over paying for a NSO subscription to access versions of these games i won't technically own
Praying for the moon with this one, but if they did the generation idea, I'd worry the Gen 1 version wouldn't do so well because of how janky and rough the 1st games are. That's why I'd love for them to throw in a little something extra with the Gen 1 version. International Green. The international Red and Blue use the more stable Japanese Blue as a base for the core mechanics and tilesets/sprites, but slap the encounter tables and trade data from pokemon Red and Green respectively. But the Japanese Blue had its own encounter tables and trade data that was never brought to the west. (Tauros and Kangskhan trades, an early poliwag trade, wild lickitung and Jynx etc). So I suggest they include include a version of Gen 1 with Japanese Blue as the base, but with only the red and green tileset and spritework carried over would be a nice little extra for International fans. The Green version we never got, would be jsut the ticket for bringing fans in one more time to buy the classic original games.
I think that the main line pokemon games not being put on the Nintendo switch online virtual consoles is potentially a good sign. I'm holding onto hope that they're not putting them on NSO so that they can save them for something bigger.
I wouldn't get my hopes up too high about them rereleasing the old games. You can make your own Gameboy Cartridges nowadays, which is still cheaper than buying the games on ebay.
I work at jack in the box and bought Pokémon soul silver platinum and black 2 complete in box for around the regular 200 and 100 and something prices with no morgage
Might just be me but I would love it if this collection if true allowed you to use any pokemon from any game you pick from those games, that are in one cartridge like a shared pokebank
God, I wish............. they've actually been putting some of the older spin-off title pokémon games on the Switch online emulators, so there is technically a tiny, itty bitty possibility for them to do the same with the main series games....... but alas, tis all but speculation for now 😔
i see it being probable, but after the 25th anniversary, i dunno anymore. i definitely think there will be unova remakes at some point, & with BDSP being on switch, i don't think they'll rerelease DS ports, even if it's stupid. idk TPC, GF, & nintendo are so hard to predict sometimes bc i swear they ignore fans & slap a C&D on anyone who wants accessibility. big corpo go brr
There needs to be a medium. Cheaper prices and more availability. You could provide everyone with everything they need to get games and people would still pirate. But better pricing will help as well.
$200 for every Pokemon game from Gen 1-7? Nah, TPCi see those games worth much more than that! That being said, I'm sort of not looking forward to older gens being re-released. They would probably make sure that they work with Pokemon HOME, which means that they would be more likely to get rid of Pokemon Bank once and for all. That will be pretty unfortunate.
Hot take: video games are more art/entertainment than consumable product. Looking at piracy of art/entertainment from an economic/consumer standpoint is crass at best. Just cause a piece of art is expensive and not readily available doesn't give you license to enjoy it from illegitimate means. Just being a gamer who doesn't entitle you to enjoy any/every game. Spending any of your limited time on I'll gotten entertainment causes you to spend less time and therefore money on other games that deserve it.
2 years ago I wanted to replay some side games specifically the mystery dungeon games and colloseum and xd. First place I looked was the eshop. Couldn't find it there so I downloaded an emulator. I was not about to buy a game cube and a 3ds and hundreds more for the games.
The expansion pack on the switch is honestly worse than just releasing the games on their own. I really wish theyd pull some of titles off it and ship them separately.
Okay listen up: We need a Gen 3 re-reelase. Cmplete with the e-reader cards. Think of Megaman Battle Newtork Collection. Based on japanese versions, full e-reader compatibility, online functionality, all event items & mons (all regions combined, no exclusives) on TOP of having Colosseum re-released with all the cut pokémon in it. (check Cutting Room Floor page) iwth both event discs being post-game rewards (Celebi & Jirachi) AND the "Roamer IV glitch" being fixed.
Image of they actually rerelease platinum and BDSP gets completely embarrassed. Tho if they only release og diamond and pearl I'll still play BDSP instead
I wish you hadn’t said “gamefreak” at 2:18 since it isn’t necessarily their choice in whether or not these games get released. In the same way it’s not necessarily their choice to push out games every few years. Ultimately it comes down to the publisher to put their older titles on modern hardware. Also at 2:32 you say that “you could pretty much play almost any Pokémon game on Virtual Console” but that’s sadly wrong. Only Generations 1 & 2 were purchasable via VC as every other generation was accessible physically either by remake or by the original releases. (I love the videos btw I just wanted to point this out 🩵)
5:16 Man so delusional that he thought the Switch had GAMECUBE GAMES! I mean I figured he meant Stadium 1 & 2 but I could believe he has that much copium. lol
It might be because of Pokemon HOME connectivity. People will want that if the re-releases are on the Switch, but maybe its proving difficult/expensive to do. Just an idea I had
More that it'd be one way exclusivily unlike Pokemon Let's Go where if you don't transfer to another game it can go in and out of Let's go. The Gen 1 Pokemon games don't have the base data structure to do that. Going one way would be similar to how the Poke Transporter works.
I would kill for a copy of emerald green. My siblings and I used to have a copy for the pikachu looking gameboy, but one day it just up and vanished. Never found it, and no one got to finish it.
Repo carts can be had cheap online, I got all 5 Gen 3 games for 25$ so 5 each and you can use a ds, ds lite, Gba, gba micro or sp, or there are new and nice but expensive 3rd party consles. If you get one real Gen 3 game 2 gba/sp a link cable you can trade up through the Gen's. I used fake emerald to complete my Gen 5 Dex
The people behind pokemon have always been unreasonably stubborn and they get offended easily when their fan base gets upset... they always respond with ok... none for you! 😅 I think it would make sense to release it but because people pirate them and generally praise older games compared to newer games, I don't think it's a business decision, I think it's just flat out stubbornness and trying to push exclusivity... so that people who have original games can push back against people who pirate as not having real games... people who pay an arm and a leg for something will defend that dumb decision and the company. Pokemon has always and will always use psychological tricks, gaslighting, guilt tripping, and unnecessary and stubborn refusals as punishment... so when they do give you something small wrapped in tinfoil with a mainline new price tag, you buy it and praise them... 1, you genuinely wanted something based on the product and 2, you are scared to speak out and say anything too negative because they will twist your complaints to mean that you don't want anything from that generation... not that they screwed up ... that we the players just don't want it. 💀 I still love pokemon... but these last few games have been meh... and I am kind of getting tired of how videogame companies treat us and the lack of pride they put into their games.
I could see them releasing "four game" collections (not counting versions), each for more money than the previous collection. > A $50 collection featuring RBY, GSC, RSE, and FRLG. > A $60 collection featuring DPPt, HGSS, BW, and B2W2. > A $70 collection featuring XY, ORAS, SM, and USUM.
Platinum won't be on switch. They make more money selling remakes like BDSP as mediocre as those remakes are. I'll settle for a compilation with gens 1-3 with some nice artwork and maybe a nuzlocke mode for the switch 2.
Here’s my guess based on basically zero evidence. They want the games to be: 1. Compatible with Pokemon Home, and 2. Impossible to cheat in (save states). But for whatever reason the current NSO apps just might not be able to make that happen, so they’re waiting for the Switch 2 since Nintendo will (hopefully) update the way these apps work, at which point TPC will feel comfortable releasing the classic games. Because like you said, they have no issue with releasing spinoffs.
Honestly before the switch 2 comes they need to have Save data backup figured out for gen 8 and 9 games, Personally all they need to do is have pokemon home the hub for the save data backup and you have to use some of your 200 boxes your given as your storage space
Unfortunately they just can’t program the necessary connection between them and Pokemon Home cus that would cost a lot of money and they only brought in 11.6 billion dollars last year.
0:37 The crazy thing is the versions you chose to be on screen are the same exact ones I chose. From Blue all the way to Violet. Every version you picked are the same ones I bought for each generation
I remember when everyone was thinking this was happening on the 25th anniversary I am starting to think they just don’t like money

Honestly all pokemon company needs to do is gen 1 and 2 on switch online thats compatable with pokemon stadium 1 and 2 exclusively
Gen 3, Colosseum and XD are just a bonus
I wish Nintendo would just release the old consoles again. If they did I wouldn’t have to be careful with my N64 Cartridges
Mainline games were only available on the 3DS VC and it was only the first 2 gens.
I can't sign off on paying 50-70€ for a rerelease but I agree that literally *no* matter how these games are priced, they'd sell immensely well.
God, I wish............. they've actually been putting some of the older spin-off title pokémon games on the Switch online emulators, so there is technically a tiny, itty bitty possibility for them to do the same with the main series games....... but alas, tis all but speculation for now 😔
Wait... They put out Colosseum to the switch? That's my favorite Pokémon game! (HG/SS being 2nd). That's awesome!
I mean, I paid $70 for Skyward Sword Remake, so yeah, I totally understand what you're saying
i see it being probable, but after the 25th anniversary, i dunno anymore. i definitely think there will be unova remakes at some point, & with BDSP being on switch, i don't think they'll rerelease DS ports, even if it's stupid. idk TPC, GF, & nintendo are so hard to predict sometimes bc i swear they ignore fans & slap a C&D on anyone who wants accessibility. big corpo go brr
I agree with alot of what u said rye, I strongly hope they rer release the original game
Man, I just get depressed thinking about how my mom gave away my copy of Heartgold years ago. That would've been a nice chunk of change nowadays...
5:18 I think you meant to say Stadium. Colloseum and XD: Gale of Darkness are both still locked to the GameCube
And I’m still mad at them for never releasing a port on a modern gen console like the Switch.
Only 55 views in 20 mins? How you deserve so much more!
I really wish theyd pull some of titles off it and ship them separately.
you got my sub purely because my cats are riley and toast purely to be ryetoast
this video was in my recommended feed. I watch poke content already
Ya a remake We did not want It should have been platinum or At least look like the main series More open diamond and pearl
GameFreak stupidly think that releasing the old games will canabalise the sales of the new ones
They're wrong
(I love the videos btw I just wanted to point this out 🩵)
Just give me a Game Boy collection with the first 2 or 3 generations of games.
I sure wish they were the biggest grossing franchise in the world, then they could just pay people to do that :(
I would kill for a copy of emerald green.
@@Island-RC That sounds amazing, really gotta check it out.
*Cries in pokemon tcg 2*
Dont count on it.
Would be pretty cool tho
Go down the "Disney Vault" rabbit hole. Maintaining value through artificial scarcity.
I found this channel by chance but yeah love pokemon 23 years experience haha 😂 dw I’ll love tap that subscribe button ❤
coliseum is not on NSO
They make infinitely more money not doing what any of you want thats why theres zero old mainline games on nso.
Gabe owns Valve.
Or you could buy Japanese versions, if that's not a problem. B2W2 are well beneath $100 that way.
Probably not.
I need poke walker for heart gold and soul silver
One of the most based poke tubers I’ve ever watched
Not a chance.
Everytime I see a video discussing this I just can't help but laugh. It will never happen. Enough copium. Wake up tk reality
Are they not on the switch networks premium service?
0:35 lol all cool pallette versions
Based video Rye! Hard agree with the gen 4 love if i could have Heart Gold on my Oled I'd drop $60 rn
No.
I wanna' eat that toast.
No
1:24 based
5:15 what
I'm based and bought the games anyway 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You sound so different in this video 😭😭😭???
I'm so glad I got all the 3DS virtual consoles of the 2 gens before the store shut down. I was so worried I would not be able to play them again.
Here’s my guess based on basically zero evidence.
They want the games to be:
1. Compatible with Pokemon Home, and
Honestly before the switch 2 comes they need to have Save data backup figured out for gen 8 and 9 games, Personally all they need to do is have pokemon home the hub for the save data backup and you have to use some of your 200 boxes your given as your storage space
new to the channel, 666th like 💀
Animations
Unfortunately they just can’t program the necessary connection between them and Pokemon Home cus that would cost a lot of money and they only brought in 11.6 billion dollars last year.
0:37 The crazy thing is the versions you chose to be on screen are the same exact ones I chose. From Blue all the way to Violet. Every version you picked are the same ones I bought for each generation
