    Hi Nate, I’m a little late to the party here but I wanted to thank you for this video! It really helped me. I wound up replacing the filter first, no go…did the water inlet valve..still nothing…then did the whole ice maker replacement using this video as a guide. Big help!! Came down this morning to a full load of ice. For this watching that have a little on/off switch in the front of the ice maker, the kit Nate suggested actually comes with a little “knockout” for that so everything fit in perfectly!

    Good video! I want to share my experience. I tried the jump start on mine. It never would start. Ordered a new one from amazon. The new one came with a power cord that was too short. I used the old one and the new ice maker did not work. Test for power at the ice maker none! Took it back out and tested original power cord. Bad thermal fuse! I took off the fuse off the short cord and spiced it on the old line using heat shrink fittings. New ice maker now running. Old ice maker was good after all so I am keeping for a back-up.
    Lesson learned bottom line check power cord!

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  Год назад +1

      Good call out there Brian and nice job diagnosing and getting to the root cause! I imagine if the new cord had been long enough you would have thought the issue was the actual ice maker - so fortunate that the cord was short from that perspective I guess! Thanks for sharing that solve - may help other folks diagnosing who read the comments. Power is certainly an important part of this whole ice making operation!
      Best,

      Seems like that is an ice maker function issue. I would probably go after a replace in that case vs. the effort to figure out / repair that. Hope you were able to get it squared away. Thanks for your comment!

    Hey awesome video!
    please help I have changed the water filter and and intake water valve.
    I checked the ice maker inlet hose from top of fridge
    I have tried testing the ice maker jumping H with T but does NOT call for water the gears go around but nothing happens. The front dispenser works fine.
    Please help?

      @DIYNate  10 месяцев назад

      Sorry for the slow reply here - hope you got it up and running! Sounds like your next step would be to replace the ice maker overall since you have eliminated the water valve and the filter as possible issues. Good that the front dispenser still works - sounds like when you tested it, the ice maker not calling for water is one of the ice maker's current issues. Hoping the replacement works for you. Good luck!

    Hi Nate, I have frozen ice cubes in the position ready to dump, however it is not dumping. I am trying to follow your steps to pull out the ice maker and let it defrost. I am currently working on the first step to pull the white cover from the left side to unplug the electrical. I have the seal on the front edge loose, however I can not get the rest of the piece off. Is there actually a screw in there? TIA!!

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  Год назад

      Really sorry for my super slow reply! I hope you figured it out and didn't have to wait on this, but no, there shouldn't be a screw but there is a tab that has to be unseated I believe. Once you get the plastic cover off and start pulling the ice maker out, it may hang up a bit too on pulling it out even after you have disconnected the wire. A good tug usually does the job to get it to move out more freely. Hope you got things working!

    Nate - my icemaker is making ice but I seems to be getting slight overflow of water that freezes up at the bottom of the bin. I'd already pulled the icemaker out before seeing your video on recommended test steps but I do still have it. I don't see any weep holes form time in the bottom of it's tray and added some water and didn't see any leaks. What would you suggest for my next step(s), replace the icemaker or a valve issue? I'm also noticing that I don't seem to be able to raise the arm up to shut off this icemaker but I honestly don't know it that's how it's always been. Model# MFF2558VEW7 - Thanks for any help you can provide!

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  8 месяцев назад +1

      I’ll give it a shot with a couple ideas here. First, if water is overflowing or getting out of the ice maker, there is often a screw or dial that can be adjusted to dispense more water (bigger cubes) or less water (smaller cubes). If you check your manual or online, you can probably figure out which way to turn the screw / dial to reduce the volume of water. I would also check to make sure your icemaker is mostly level. Sometimes if the front is too far down / low, then water will collect more at the end than at the back and cause water to overflow causing it to spill out or freeze the fingers up.
      I would start there I believe before getting into replacement if it still produces and harvests the ice. The arm should go up I believe as a safety to prevent ice from overflowing, but you may want to make sure the arm is in the right holes and maybe double check the manual for how the on / off setting works with the arm.
      Good luck, Bobby, and I hope you defeat the icemaker - haha! You got this!

    I just bought a Whirlpool with this style icemaker that was delivered yesterday. My problem is I can’t get the unit to slide out to dump my first batch of ice. I’m pressing that white button but the thing is stuck in place.

    • @DIYNate

      Not sure if you can get a better hold by pushing the button and pulling from ice dispensing hole and pulling on that to get it to release. Good luck with getting it unstuck - should be doable though!

    I just replaced mines but still having issues. I tested by jumping T and H the unit cycles and fills with water but after sitting overnight still no ice. What am I missing here?

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  Год назад +1

      Hey there - well, if it is working when you are triggering it with the T and H, that is a tough diagnosis from here. Seems like your ice maker is working at least to fill it and likely your water inlet valve as well. Filter is probably fine. Could be the signal to call for the ice to dispense or the heating element. When you take the ice maker out after testing it and having it fill with water, if the ice is still in there, could be the heating element isn't doing its thing to warm the ice enough for the fingers to move it out. I have seen the fingers/blades get frozen in place before as well. Other issue could be if it is just staying as water in the fill cup and not freezing, then a freeze area temperature issue, but I doubt that is the case. Good luck and hopefully, this at least helps a bit. Thanks for your comment!

    How did you unclip the plug that connects the ice maker unit to the fridge? It looks like you used a screwdriver and twisted, but I couldn’t tell. I can’t seem to get the two pieces to disconnect.

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  2 года назад +2

      Hey D O - it is a bit tricky but a flathead screwdriver or something to pry the tab that is on the side while separating the base end from the incoming end is the trick. I lift the tab while pulling apart and squeeze a bit on the other two sides and it comes loose. Definitely a little tricky considering the tight space constraints but once you get it and do it once, it becomes easier in the future. Good luck and hope the repair goes well!

    I've replaced ice makers before but for this type I cannot slide the unit out after removing the side cover, uncoupling the harness and pressing the tab in. Any suggestions

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  2 года назад

      Hey there - so, if you have already gotten the harness uncoupled, then it sounds like it is just a matter of pulling with some pretty good force while you have that tab lifted. I have had to pull mine out a number of times and I feel a bit like I have to yank on it to get it to come free and even budge at all. Saying that cautiously as I don’t want you to break your unit (my disclaimer :) - but hoping you are able to get it unstuck. Could be a bit of stuck or frozen in place so turning off for a little while might help unfreeze a bit if it is anything like that. Good luck!

    If it is cold but not making ice how do I know if it is the valve or the icemaker?

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  2 года назад +1

      Hey Daniel - that is part of the trick with this type of issue - it is a bit of trial and error. My approach to figuring out if it was more likely the valve or the icemaker was to take the icemaker out, put some water in the tray, and see if the icemaker harvests. If the icemaker harvests, then it is probably more likely that the issue is the water valve. If it doesn't harvest, then you are more likely looking at an icemaker issue. Not an exact science by any stretch but that was my approach without getting into knowing how to use a multimeter to troubleshoot / test the valve.
      Good luck and hope this helps!

    I got a whirlpool gold series mod wrs965ciah00 refrigerator.
    The gauges quit working, so I replaced the motor.
    This did not resolve the issue.
    I swapped the dispenser pads, to see if this resolves the Problem.
    This also failed.
    Could there be a break in the power cable to the auger motor?
    If I actuate the dispenser pad, the ice door opens and closes.
