The question about frame detail and your answer. Spot on. To take it a step further, I am currently building a pro mod car. During a youtube search for pro mods for ideas, I came across Tim McAmis Performance Parts youtube channel. It just so happens that he has a series of videos detailing the pro mod Camaro that he built a few years ago. He did a short 10 minutes or so video for every stage of the build. I am building my 84 Camaro pro mod and I am consulting those videos every step of the way. Awesome resource.
Because of you and your videos my models and skills have vastly improved. I have seen the improvement on each model i have done. After i completed a model i tak a look and ask myself what can i do to improve it. Keep up all you do with these videos. A big thanks to you for my improvement. Thank you Thank you.
Great video lots of knowledge. You are so right about A-holes who say that we are playing with toys! I'm 63 and can't tell you how many people have told me that over the years (screw em').. .
Donn, thanks for another great and informative video! I recently ordered your 2 DVD set on tips and tricks and your methods have vastly improved my model building. To your advice about sanding to 12,000 grit, I just tried this method for the first time, then soaking my Tamiya paint spray, then clear coat can, in hot water beforehand. The resulting paint job is, hands down, THE BEST PAINT JOB I HAVE EVER DONE! I will never do it another way again. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Lol that chirp was so pronounced on my phone Made me look at my smoke detectors. I turned 50 yesterday and I asked for model kits. Thank you so much for your weekly tip. Have a great weekend too👊🤘👍
Good info Donn! Wish I would have met you when I lived nearby in Shaler! Another place I go for reference to what the underside should look like is an auction site called Bring a Trailer. Some of the cars there are modified, yes, but many are true restorations down to the underside and interior details. Careful, the site is addicting!
Nice Q & A session. Some of what you cover I’m currently doing or not doing as the case may be. But, I find your advice quite helpful, because I am always trying to improve the quality of my builds. Thanks for sharing.

My best advice is: every now and then build something easy to avoid burn out! Hobbies are supposed to be fun not a job!🤔😎Don’t worry about critics ,they are out to ruin others fun because they are miserable 😢😢! Relax and have fun 🤔😎!
I'm using c/a adhesive more often now. I always used to use Tamiya Extra Thin during construction, and then found instances where I had to remove parts to fix issues. Much easier using superglue. A good example of this is the Revell Foose Custom Cadlillac Eldorado I'm working on. The front left wheel wasn't sitting level, so I had to space the axle mount out using an off cut of thin plasticard. Since I had used superglue this time, an easy fix to pop the join, then insert the plasticard and reglue. And now all 4 wheels are sitting on the ground! :-)
The best answers were about people and attitudes. Anyone who thinks these are toys #1 can't do it, #2 even then most of them get a different idea if they are shown details and scratch building. Models have been in museums for centuries. Romans used models for architectural design. Perfect exact replica dollhouses have been in Europe for millennia. Either you're interested or you're not. No skin off my nose if someone would rather sit on a barstool, play ball, or anything else they choose. "Still playing with toys" is just belittlement for it's own sake. Don't expect those people to care about anything that's important to you. Some of the biggest real toy collectors (diecast, tin, tonka etc) I've seen just laughed - all the way into retirement funds, and/or substantial inheritances for their kids. It's not about them, it's about you. For those arguing "perfectionism" or "you don't need to go crazy with all that.." you're absolutely right.... What do "YOU" want to do? That becomes YOUR goal. How are YOU going to get there? There are mansions, and there's doublewides....rat rods, patina cars and one off Ferraris, Craftsman wrenches and Snap on wrenches. There's nothing wrong with any of them, just personal differences in how and why. Do what works, if it ain't workin, try to find what does. LOL... usually we are our own biggest factor in our own limitations, outside assistance is normally not required haha...
@@ScaleModelTechniques ok thank you for the advice. Never been to a show yet, but planning on going and maybe entering a few in the future. Love your videos, they’ve been helping me a lot with different techniques!
I didn't see a Q & A for April so hopefully you'll read this. Your DVD's do a great job in showing paint consistency / spray technic, and I marvel at the "fan" of paint coming from your paasche model H. I cannot find, however, the setting you use on the nozzle. Is it full open? Half? Three quarters? I've tried a number of settings but just can't match the "fan" coming from your gun. What's the secret? All my best to you and your family... George
#5 needle and head assembly . Believe it or not , it is the sound that I adjust it to . Practice will bring it into focus . There is not a set position per se …..
@@ScaleModelTechniques Don, thanks for your reply. I've followed your work for some time now, so when you say "it is the sound that I adjust to"... I believe it.
Good afternoon Donn. What pressure do you run your airbrush at? I have one of the mini desk top compressors but the good one, and I've been running it at 25 psi.
A great mentor once said, we are recreating life. The thought that these are toys is not true. Hobbies are personal choice and that is that...

I've found that a little bit super glue accelerator on a cotton swab will remove BMF residue.
Great tips as always Donn! I have a question myself, do you have any experience with the new Tamiya Enamel line?
Another awesome video! Well said.

Not sure if they're available in the USA yet, but Tamiya has a line of Enamel paints that mirror the selection of colours in the Acrylic line.

Bestine is the best solvent for adhesives. Evaporates so fast, it doesn’t hurt the finish. Use gloves.

I have a question. If i would enter a contest, do they have a class where the models have working lights on them? Are you for that or against it?
Regardless of whether it has working headlights or not , you will be able to enter that model in whatever category it was built for …..

You can remove the glue from the bare metal foil with windex, no?
Minimum I use is 12k, can’t argue with stupid. I’m sure old man knows about wet sanding with newspaper.

Great video. The person most deaf is the one that chooses not to hear. Keep well
