Love your videos. I got your dvd’s after Christmas and learned so much. Just turned 50 and getting back into models after 35 years. Just painted my first car body with the H airbrush and hands down the best paint I’ve ever laid down!! Thank you!
Hey old man!! Wanted to say I find your page very very instrumental in my work, for years I learned by way of trial and error and you have helped me gain a far better understanding of how to accomplish the best works,my question for you is this I’m 45 I’ve been building model cars and trucks since a child haven’t stopped at all,now moving into resin kits and bodies, how do you feel about people that crap on the hobby saying what we do is for children and that grown men shouldn’t be playing with toys,I try to explain that this hobby isn’t a toy but a skill that if done correctly gives you a display for many to admire and appreciate,I say that one may work wood to make furniture or music instruments some use clay some sew some make boats or build bikes or cars but I build models,I just hate hearing this person crap on something I absolutely love..building models requires attention to detail, steady hands and patience it’s a respectable hobby...what’s your take
I stay away from rustoleum for the bodies. I stick to testors one coat laquers and testors spray enamels. I only use rustoleum for chassis and interiors.
7:37 Thank you dear man, I think we all need inspiration and you are an inspiration to the world of models and for me thanks to you I entered the modeling business and I learn new things every day
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone!!! I am 66 years young and still learning every day. I have been following you for a lot of years. Keep on the good work my friend!!! Blessings to you and your family.🙏🏼☝🏼👍🏼
I worked in the big box stores (HD &Lowes). They strongly suggested to wear gloves, especially when using tools! I never did as, as you say, I lost tactile feeling and felt more vulnerable to an accident. However, my skin is constantly oily. I can wash my hands with soap and feel oily minutes later! Thanks for sharing, happy days! 😎
Thanks Donn for the tips. Now I know how to cover the ghost lines from for example the hood scoop cut outs. Also I like your definition of Fear. With age comes wisdom. Great videos. God Bless. Chris
There's nothing wrong with being old school. But remember that this hobby like just like anything in life is evolving. Me personally I make it a point to try new products and techniques on each build. Because something works does not mean there isn't something better. Love your channel learned a lot from your videos my friend keep sharing your knowledge with us.
Thanks for words of wisdom! Got to the end of a build, started putting windows in and got glue on then. Tried to sand and ruined them. Building for my brother in-law. Bought a new kit and starting over.
Don, I love your videos . To the young gentleman who doesn’t want to take the next step. It is a hard one, your almost done, step back take a breath and step forward this is coming from the young man who spent all winter putting back together a motor bike and stripping the threads putting in the last bolt in the tail pipe to the heads. Bad days can make great stories later. I believe you said miss takes will be made how you handle them is up to you. Thanks for listening.
Donn, always good to get insight into how people do things, old school or new school. Just because someone in this atmosphere does not do it the same way, does not mean they should call out anyone, especially someone like you who takes the time to share your experiences. I like listening to others whether I do it the same way or not. There is always something to be learned from others. If peeps want to try a different technique (could be old or newer), they should try it. If they have something that works for them, and they do not want to explore, so be it. I especially liked your comment about the airbrush. The equipment is just one piece of the puzzle and just using a more expensive unit does not guarantee better results. You should use the tool that you need to do the job. Let's face it, there have been many versions of screwdrivers come along, but it seems as though the best-selling version, that everyone carries is still the kind you turn manually. Keep up the good work.
Ghost lines.. l have found that if you fill the cut out with Evergreen plastic strips then weld it in with a little Plastruct or another solvent cement, it greatly reduces the chance of a ghost line.
Great video! thanks for all the great advice. one of my questions is how to paint white. Seems no matter what I do and what brand I use its always bad, thin drippy and horrible coverage. I use tamiya spray, Revell, airbrush and paint brush and its always bad. I can do all other colors just fine.
Rustoleum with hardener cut with enamel reducer works perfectly with airbrush, probably more for advanced builders! Plus adds unbelievable gloss to the finish 😳🤔👍🏻
Hey what's up Don, I was gonna ask ya the next time I saw you about how to hide those lines in hoods and things where you cut out for blowers and what not, thanks for covering it here, I will most definitely give it a try
I love your videos and I've learned quite a few tricks. In fact based on your channel and a couple others I started modeling after some 40 years. However 6 months after starting again I discovered I have Parkinsons which great affects my ability to control my extremities. Any suggestions? I've hit a brick wall.
Really appreciate all your advice and tips . I have nowhere 5omuse spray paint or an airbrush and would like the best advice for brush painting with enamel both Testors and MCW . Brand of brushes and whether to thin the paint and coats of paint. Thank you
When using metallic paint. Do they make paint that has the metallic flakes to the proper scale to prevent the the dune buggy/bass boat look where metallic flakes look too large. Thanks for the Friday videos and the Q&As
Yes . There is also a product made by Jacquard called PearlX which can be mixed in your clear coat that can be shot over corresponding base coats to produce a wide array of colors . It is definitely in scale .
I'm having a heck of a time finding the facebook page of James Pardini, the guy you mention in your video. Can someone help guide me to his facebook page... thanks 👍

As far as dust and crud in paint I find it important to ground yourself when painting or airbrushing, just like electronic tech use!🤔🤓
I like your dog! 💖
Thanks Don!!
How do you spell the guys name that does the rocket bunny builds?
I failed recently with taking short cut and used rust oleum. Oh well lesson learned airbrush only
I use gloves only when airbrushing. Can't stand them when I'm building.
Thanks for answering my question Don
Great Q&A keep up the good work young man
