    Turns out I've gobbler yelped for years sometimes and never realized it. Always wondered why some birds responded better to slower yelps than faster ones (hen yelps) I guess now I know why😂

    By gobble Yelp, what I do is gobble with a box call and Yelp with a mouth call at the same time, when they’re hemmed up. An old man taught me that in the 1970s. They can’t stand it! I used a double reed a friend makes and a Turpin box call.

    YES! “Talk over her” “mock her”
    I got my first limb hanger last year by calling in the hens, doing exactly this, it does work!!!

    I called in a hen to get my first gobbler. I set up early and tried to call the gobblers on the roost. The gobblers weren’t super responsive to me, but the boss hen was. I struck up an “argument” with her, and got her so fired up she flew into the tree directly next to me, stood 10 feet from me and started cutting and clucking and called all the toms over to me so that I got one. Works great. Plus I find you get to hear a wider variety of hen vocalizations to try and mimic.

    I’ve got a henned-up gobbler that I just can’t get. Every time I try to get just a little close, he notices me and starts doing a “putt” warning call. Really smart gobbler that I’d love to get tomorrow, the last day of the Srpring hunt.

    the wind was really bad this morning. Going to sit on their roost I found yesterday. . .let's see if one of those will work. More to follow. Thanks again, Matt!

  • @brakemadness
    @brakemadness 3 года назад +1

    When gobblers are henned up bad I try hard to roost that gobbler. Next morning I’ll get extremely close so I can see exactly where that bird is meeting hens and spending time right off the roost. When he is courting a flock of 5 hens he will usually be quiet. Getting close allows you to see what’s going on when the gobbling stops.

    Long before I heard of "Karen" I got into dozens of hen fights fights and had a hoot arguing with the boss hen. Its hilariously fun cuz she comes to kick my butt and often has brought the strutter with her. I've killed a few 3 year old toms like this but I missed the last two cuz the hen got under 10 steps from me and putted and I panicked and took bad shots. Had all the fun I wanted and didn't have to clean one. Never had any luck with the gobbler yelps except in the last day or two of the season. Another great refresher video Matt.

    Another very informative video. I think some times I'm guilty of gobbler yelping more than I realize lol. Man looking forward to this season here in WI.

    • @daleoutdoors17
      @daleoutdoors17  3 года назад +1

      A lot of people are guilty of it and instead they call the gobbler In because he’s dominant.
      But sometimes hens do have a slower Yelp..

    Major difference between hunting henned up gobblers and bucks locked down with does..... Hens will drop off and go to nest. Gobblers, particularly satellite gobblers will be far more callable.
    Have enjoyed your videos over the years.

    I was making calls the other day a Tom came in silently didn't make a sound from behind me ,I didn't even know he was coming,he must have saw me move and started making cutting calls while walking away I tried making calls to get him to come back but no dice . Did you ever have a turkey come in silently like that ? that was the first time I've experienced it, do you have any thoughts on what to do if that happens? I enjoy your videos, down to earth, keep it up thank you for doing them.

      Called in two this morning using this technique. Strutting and gobbling finally got the hens going and fired up brought them to 35 yards and bam. My son connected and I missed. Ole Karen was yappin this morning for sure!!! Good luck Matt. Man it was rainy and foggy in Grayson Co this morning.
