  • The season is rolling on and it's getting better.
As always in late season the gobbling is picking
back up and the Gobblers are starting to work in better.
Matt is headed on up to the Ohio and West Virginia spots.
After some issues that kept him out of the woods
for a couple days, he finds a late season gobbler
up in the mid morning. The gobbler hangs up just
outside of viewing and won't budge.
How do you get one to break and come that last few yards?

I wanna start out saying nice content as always! So today something happened to me and my father that we'll never forget. We went out due to the knowledge I've learned over the last four years of hunting them and listening to you videos. I'm 3 bird's for four years of hunting, first was with a bow no blind, second year I didn't get anything. Third year I got a nice gobbler 21 pounds, forth year I got a 18.10lb strutter. But the best part about it all was this year (today) I got my dad a Bird after decades of him not hunting. The hunt started out me being 45min early listing to the woods come alive, dad shows up on his Harley. We head down the two track to the east the way I heard the only gobble. We walk several hundred yards with no response to the call (hen cuts n yelp's). Then we approach a power line/clear cut, my dad steps out I heard a pop n bullet sip by. I reach out pull him back by his arm n yell ARE YOU SHOOTING! A guy stands up sets his gun down n walked down the power line to us. My dad missed a 25mm pellet my a couple feet!! We talked to the guy n all had a learning experience. So we turned around and headed back west, set up in a transition line where the oaks meet the pines and you can see out through the pines. I set up a jake decoy and a hen 15 to 20 yards away, we sat for n hr or better while I soft call. No luck so we both got up n dad walked to the next tree to relieve himself from some coffee prior from the restaurant. We sit back down and hear a gobble about 80yards away. Dad shifted to his left n I tell him he's coming from behind us get comfortable n ready! I Yelp on the pot call n he fires back 60yard n closing, dad get ready he's coming! My heart racing dad says I see him, it's a Jake. I look around the tree 12 yards to our right a Jake walks by half Strut, the POW dad pulls the trigger! I asked was it a Tom, out of curiosity. He says OHH NO I SEEN HIS BEARD FLOPPING! Dad got a nice one after 20 plus year of not hunting them. 20.10lbs 10 1/8" Beard 1 3/4" spur's. I just wanted to say thank you for ur knowledge because this year has been tough!

good job on the hunt. This year i only got out three times for a 3 to 4 hr time. herd some tom's in the area. had two jakes come in behind me and i never got a shot . so i got nothing and I've been very sick this year so i've not been motivated. It's nice to see you out hunting and we can enjoy your hunt.

Matt..thanks for your videos and outdoor classroom sessions. I just retired this year and got to spend a great deal of preseason scouting. Your soft calling advice worked well during late season. I was able to get 2 gobblers May 17th and 20th in heavily hunted northern PA public lands using your old school tactics. Hunting pressure all but disappeared since our crazy opening day. Thank you for getting me through the frustrating early season and your shared knowledge .

You ain't kidding about this spring being quiet. In the Colorado Rockies even the hens are quiet. Maybe heard 5 gobbles all season. Season ends May 31st here.

That’s awesome, I filled my first turkey tag in pa opening day and that turkey death gobbled all the way to me. But I’ve been trying to fill my second tag late season pa and I’ve learned so much. I went out this morning. May 21st actually found a turkey that wanted to gobble a little bit. But I just did not no the terrain good enough. I wasn’t patient enough, and I think I started calling to hard because he started gobbling, I was doing the light yelps and he gave me about 9 gobbles in 3 hours, but I just messed it up. He ended up going to a spot I was at and I could have stayed there.. but it was a awesome hunt either way had my heart pounding for 3 hours and that’s what keeps us coming back

I'll never forget the video of yours that a watched a few years back. It was the one where you said "you're calling to that gobbler and you're saying, I love you, I love you, I love you and that old gobbler staying where he's at thinking, well if you love me so much then come to me and show me that you love me". That stuck with me and changed my success so much for the good. I had been hunting turkeys for many years up to that point and had some success here and there but not like after that video. Thank you so much!

Nope I kill 95 percent of my turkeys every year with no mask or gloves. Sit still that’s the best Camo!
