    No truer statement in turkey teaching then, "every gobbler is different". They can frustrate you no end one day and come running in the next or the opposite. Each tom is like a flake of snow with no two the same and some are just impossible to pattern. Great video Matt, brought back lots of memories of every kind of gobbler.

    Hey Dale, any tips on hunting windy days? I know people say to not bother on windy days but I wanna make the most out of a days hunt with it being windy or not

    • @-B_G-
      @-B_G- 2 года назад +1

      Hunt hardwood bottoms and fields. The wind makes turkeys nervous bc they can’t hear as well and all the limbs and leaves are blowing around making it harder for turkeys to see threats. They move to open areas where they can use their vision and the open bottoms break the wind a little. They won’t gobble as much but they are still around. Hunt sign like scratch, tracks, strut marks and be ready to sit patiently for hours.

    I was hunting three years ago with my sister trying to get her first bird had two gobblers come down the field into the neighbors field to about 80 yards and just stand out there and strut I tried to sweet talk him back no luck started aggressively cutting at them for about five minutes my sister was freaking out telling me I was gonna Sarcy everything in the woods away Out that time behind those gobblers and 50 yards to the left a 3rd gobbler broke out of the woods running straight towards us the other 2 gobblers fell in behind him had 3 gobblers 15 yards away in decoy spread one 1 left got a double her first 21 pounder and mine 23 She believes in cutting in the right situation now

  • @PaulOgie

    Love your tips, but I bursted out laughing 🤣🤣🤣 at work while listening to your examples of how to do it wrong. I have never ever heard anyone call that quickly or bad. Probably because most inexperienced people only yelp. It was too funny. I'm actually still laughing, but your tip on how to do it correctly is on target. I've been in a few face to face cutting matches with hens. Cutting can call in the whole flock when toms are henned up. I've killed tons of toms cutting calling in the whole flock. But you've got a lot of eyes on you. I almost always use crystal too.

    got one today. opening day in VA. Gobbled his head off and the last 15 minutes not a word came in silent. wondering why ?

    • @-B_G-
      @-B_G- 2 года назад

      That’s what they do a lot of times. I always say when he is gobbling good and closing distance then goes silent get ready bc he is sneaking in quiet to check it out to make sure there isn’t a group of jakes or Tom’s ready to beat him up or something like that.

  • @chrisgreenaway6696

    Another way to sound realistic . Cut on the close side of the box on the side closest to you and slide the paddle across to the other side adding a yelp one ( cut ) (pause ) yelp a one or two note hen yelp ( fast . ) and then do a two note cut pause . I’ve had gobblers cut me off before the 2 note cut and strutted right to me . ( granted this bird was wary and seen something he didn’t like outside of shotgun range

    Matt I'm starting to get discouraged. This is my second season EVER hunting I watch all your videos and others. But here's my problem I've probably been hunting about 20 times I ALWAYS GET OUT SUPER EARLY and I have NEVER HEARD A SINGLE GOBBLE. I really have been struggling. I recently bought a blind to try that route but im still just hearing nothing but silent woods.

    • @caneholleroutdoors
      @caneholleroutdoors 2 года назад +2

      Don’t let it discourage ya man. Every yr is different. I have been turkey hunting going on 5 yrs this yr. The last 2 yrs have not got to kill one. I was in the woods every chance I got. Either they wasn’t gobbling or I would miss judge distance or bad set ups but you gotta keep getting out in the woods and learn from mistakes. When they ain’t gobbling just setting on sign is about all ya can do. The good lord blessed me with a heck of a gobbler last weekend opening weekend. First one in 2 yrs. Don’t get discouraged, keep in the woods man. And good luck.

      Are you sure you are hunting where there are gobblers? Look for sign; scratching, tracks, droppings, feathers. If there is sign, it could be the turkeys don’t roost in the area you hunt and get there later in the day after you have left. Stick with it, your luck will change. As a friend of mine says, one minute looking, the next minute shooting. It can happen when you least expect it.

    • @2ndamendment1776
      @2ndamendment1776 2 года назад +1

      Have you scouted the area to determine if there are turkeys on the property? If you know that there are turkeys on the property, and you know that some of those turkeys are jakes and or toms, and they don't gobble at all, then you may need to try to locate them and watch their movement pattern and try to get in front of them and ambush them, if they get close enough to your ambush point. Been hunting turkeys for almost 20 years. They can be tricky at times. Don't give up. As someone else above me stated, it may be a case of the turkeys getting there later in the day. Scouting is a must when it comes to trying to locate animals.
