- The biking season is almost upon us, and the roads are getting nice and dry. First ride after doing all the recent refurb work on her, ready for our big Norway trip in July.
Filmed on the day of the solar eclipse. Авто/Мото
I recently bought a 98 VFR and I can say hands down it is the best bike that I have ever owned. The only thing these machines need is a proper suspension sorting, which cost me around 1,000 USD with an Ohlins rear shock and a completely reworked front end.
It can easily keep up with most "proper" sport bikes in the twisties, and I can ride it for hours without any issues or discomfort.
In fact, I'll be going from my home in San Francisco to visit a friend in Vancouver next month (which is about 1,000 miles each way) and I have no doubt that I will be supremely comfortable the entire trip.
If you're considering one I would hesitate. Best motorcycle decision I ever made. Cheers.
After 45 years of riding (a lot) my two favorite motorcycles: V-Strom and VFR. Okay, presently they're the only two bikes I own, but still - I'm a lucky person to be riding my two favorite bikes!
thanks for the ride out Richy, witnessed the eclipse hear in Bolton, sort of eerie all the birds seem to take to the trees like they've gone back to nest.looking forward to Norway stay safe Richy.
Oooooh subscribed! You've got an amazing setup. About to get my VFR hopefully soon!
got back into riding....2014 VFR! my thumb-palm muscle was paining me and the pins and needles made me smile.......good to know others suffer for their art!
Great video! Will watch it again and again. PS: I love your countryside. Not littered with billboards like ours is.
Bike is looking great Richy, got out for a ride last week also ,great to get moving again, article in Motorcycle Sport And Leisure this month on touring in Norway , might be of interest for your up coming trip. cheers
Ricky I’ve just nearly watched all your videos and enjoyed them all, and you’ve cost me 10k as I’ve just ordered a VFR.
Congratulations! 👍
Norway hey nice, i'll look forward to seeing that mate have a good one
Yeah, Eric. You coming? ;-)
I haven't ridden in years but I've been getting the itch again. Beautiful day for a ride!...
Brought myself a vfr800 today and funnily enough from via Moto Honda in chesterfield where I see you have posted a video of you having a coffee. Miserable weather for the ride home but loving the bike to bits and I think this is the start of my vfr love affair, superb bike. Had a cbr600f before this so Honda familiarity is nice. Can't wait to get out on her more
1stAdey Fantastic Andy! Is it the grey one? I think I remember seeing a nice one in there. I have quite a few videos from Via Moto as they let me test the new Crossrunner & Crosstourer a few weeks back. Top blokes in there.
Was a black one that came in on thursday, got me home a treat though. I live in Rutland so some nice roads out here and hoping it's dry tomorrow. Didn't really get to speak to the guys much but they were friendly enough and I went home grinning like an idiot
watching your you clips makes me laugh just like myself with my vfrs have 3 of them the perfect road bike.
Thanks for making my morning, I had to subscribe lol.
Have done the pair valve mods but what makes mine sound so much better is to remove the air intake spout from front of airfilter box
Had my first ride of the spring today Richy. Hoping to get a vid uploaded this week myself..... Norway trip will be epic, I have some colleagues in Oslo who were raving about Bergen and surrounding countryside. The whole country is pretty spectacular and beautiful, hope you've some $$ saved. It's Tres expensive, atleast Oslo is anyhow.
I know. Ouch! :-)
Excellent bike!
Enjoy every ride 😊
Lovely bike mate and you're obviously loving it. I ride the 5th gen 800, pre vtech and I have to say, having tried the vtech, id never change. It just felt heavier, more top heavy and a little les flickable.
The final photo is beaut with your ummmm... niece? sitting on the bike. I trust you ensured the bike had cooled down when you stuck her on the seat. Her toes look so close to some engine components. Cheers for a great and enjoyable vid! 👍
A sunny day out on your pride and joy what could be better!!!!!
Exactly!
Nice one mate, good videos
Thanks :-)
Hi Richy, just recently found your vlogs and on this one two things of interest. Your thumb, about a month ago now I had a week in Greece and hired a quad and it really shit my right hand up because the throttle is a thumb lever. My hand has only just got back to normal from a days thumb exercise. And how do you find the Metz as I have just purchased a Blackbird (jury is out on that at the mo as I am used to a Blade) and they have Metz on them and I am used to Dunlops. Keep up the vids love em
The Metz are the best tyres I've used - hands down. Just don't last long enough. Very sticky ;-)
I hadn't realised you were from Derbyshire. Small world :o)
Nice to be back on the road isn't it!? Richy if you're going to Lofoten don't miss the villages called "A" and "Reine".... Amazin
Hi man !
Thanks for that, Ivan Zappi Yes we are heading up to Lofoten, and planning a day or two off just chilling and having a look around. Cheers ;-)
I was in work (no windows) when the eclipse happened but managed to get to Norway with the help on the Internet.
Must admit I would not be that brave with new tyres but am in the process of looking for a new set and the Metz... keep being mentioned for my Strom.
Looking forward to more vids....kind'a missed'ya/vids...in a strange manly way.
Cheers, Roger. I have properly missed getting out ok the bike. There'll be plenty more regular vids now. Can't really comment on the Metz yet, but I didn't feel like I was pushing it at all so maybe that's a good point.. Most people swear by them so we'll see.
On* the bike
I have one too now richy, first little test ride tomorrow
Good stuff, Les. Looking forward to seeing your pics.
Looking forward to the footage of Norway already.. What sort of mileage / how many days have you got planned?
We're doing a 16 day tour. We have a couple of 300 mile days but most are 150-200. Can't bloody wait!
Nice bike this, i like it in silver too Richy :)
that vtec sounds badass! :)
Good video. What jacket are you wearing? I want one! :D
just have to love this channel..;-)
jørn rahn Thanks dude!
Hey dude, looks like ur riding through Alfreton?? Mines a '52 plate VFR same colour as yours. Love it, had it 6 years now! Safe riding!
+DosieP It is mate, yes. Love it more and more the further it goes!
Hy there...great video!!! What kind of cameras do u use??the have great image and sound..cheers
daniel he Use Drift cameras. Have the Ghost & Ghost-S. Externals mic plugged into helmet to give nice sound..
Which brand is your riding jacket ? Lovely bike, thanks for the vid.
Hi. It's a Bulletproof Magnum. Cheers
jeepers man, screw riding in the UK. But a stunning bike mate
Nice 👌🏻 looks like you've been around on your vfr 😁 is yours the abs model? I think they had an option back then.
Pre abs 👍
I saw a used VFR800 (same gen as yours) for a decent price and checked it out closely because of how much you like the bike. It had some abrasion on one of the side cases as if it had been laid down, but the frame still looked straight. I can get past the cosmetics easily, but I've heard from more than one owner how the under-the-seat exhaust heats up your butt. That would be welcome on colder days, but stop and go traffic on hot, humid days here in JP would be tough sledding. There's too much of that where I ride. The VFR was still tempting but I finally settled on a Tracer 9GT. Because I'm limited to one bike, I want all of the state-of-the-art bells and whistles. The triple's sound is equally intoxicating, but in a different way. Hopefully you get the chance to review the Tracer9...it's quite a step up from the old Tracer900, believe it or not.
Don’t get any form of heat from the pipes? I’ve never heard anyone mention that before.. glad you found one you love 👍
Hey Richy, I bought a 2004 Viffer 6 months ago that already had Staintunes on it. Love the bike, runs great but there's a lot of popping upon deceleration, usually in 2nd. Doesn't have a power commander. Is that something I need to worry about? This is my first bike, so I don't have a clue. Love the vids, thanks.
No mate, that's exactly what it should do with Staintunes on. Mine does exactly the same, and I absolutely love it!
+K2Nemesis
The popping is just the emissions provisions at work. you can get rid of the popping and some weight if you remove all the PAIR related stuff on the bike, but I really liked the poppy overrun. I got rid of it though, to save some weight.
My carbureted 91 pops like crazy with just a resonator. My 05 with 2bros and pcv is tame. Wish i had your Staintunes :)
Love the vids mate.. just bought my first VFR- 2008, LOVE IT !! any thoughts on adding the Heli-Risers??
+Trevor Barrett My Dad has them on his, and says it does relieve pressure on his wrists. I'm sure they're good for what they're intended mate. Which colour did you get?
Believe its called Slate Grey Metallic.. I've had an 06' ST1300 for a while, or Pan's as their called over there and love it.. Its my primary tour'er.. but wanted something with just a bit more zip and sporty.. The VFR is an unbelievable ride.. so balanced and easy to ride... Honda guy, through and through mate.. I'm happy with the pair in the garage :) Thanks for the info/advise on the Heli's and keep it up on 2 my friend..
Trevor Barrett I have the heli bars. Highly recommend Them. You will love the vfr. The st 1300 is great and more suitable for touring. The vfr is better for fun shorter rides. I have both bikes. Enjoy.
I was in Belgium missed it.
I am looking to get another bike soon, I have tried a Honda Firestorm, a cbr1100xx, and will be trying a VFR800. All second hand. Anything to look for on the VFR, what are the pluses to a VFR? I have been told there is an improvement in the V-Tec on the 2006 + Models, do you know anything about that?
I think they just smoothed the transition out in later yrs. Just check she's been serviced and looked after and you can't go wrong.
+KrunchyJD Make sure that the valve clearance check has been done or isn't due soon. It's scheduled every 16,000 miles & can cost around £350. Just to get some shims done.....
nice one where can I get the tank bag from same as yours thanks.Vfr fan....
Roman Gal It is a Givi 3d-603. Great little tank bag. It is the tank lock system too, so just clicks directly on and off in a second.
RichyVida thank you very much; -) i will get one
What year is the VFR in this video?
2004 / late 03
Hi.
When do you come to Lofoten?
I live nearby Lofoten and plan to take my VFR for a tour in Lofoten this summer
Bjørnar Vollan Hi.
We will be up in Lofoten on Sunday 12th July for a couple of days before moving on to Narvik.
Takk ;-)
Ayup Richy, Did you go for the full chadda mod? Did it make any difference? Great videos by the way, looking forward to watching your trip to Norway, hope you all have a great trip!
Cheers, Stephen Palmer
Did I do the full what?! haha

hope you don't mind a couple of llinks on here, from the VFR Owners Club:-) (I'm not pulling your leg, honest).
I can't quite bring myself to do it to my own beloved VFR!
Oh right... yes I did all of that bottom link. Seems better, but I don't know? I know if defo sounds better. You can hear the air intake a lot better, a lot 'throatier'
cool. may do it some day myself!
Thinking about buying one this week......is that Ireland ???.......Texas usa
Derbyshire
Weighing 150lbs at 5’10 do you think this bike is to big for me?
Not at all.
Quality.
see you love your vtec vfr800 my uncle hates his but he adored his old 750 vfr what is it you like about the bike .......... not knocking yah bike just picking yah brain
he hates it? First time i've ever heard that.
he hates the way vtec comes online as it just kicks (like a old 2 stroke) in hence why he perferd his old 750 to it as the 750 was a smooth power house as he feels the 800 vtec is nice then the vtec kicks in harshly then its fine but i think because the first the vtec kicked in for him was on a wet bend which resulted in him loooseing the tail end on his bike like i said im not knocking the bike cause i do love em my self just would not own one no idea why
+midlandsrider91 I doubt very much that the vtec kicking in could make the bike loose traction. You know where the transition is anyway. Bang on 7k. Personally, I absolutely love the transition of the vtec. Do he still own his then?
he still owns it but his old vfr750 n cbr1000f gets used more which is a shame really as he went to the effort of putting yoshi cans on the thing sounds lovely tbh i thing its down to his like you said you like it tbh i prob like it but not everyone is the same i guess
How strange, this vid just popped in my recommended viewing and you mentioned doing the pair valve mod😮🤷🏻♂️
#BigBrother
RichyVida exactly!! I was watching an Eminem interview then the next vid was yours!
God rides a VFR...
massive massive VFR fanatic...so your vid is sexy brother....from South Africa! enjoy!
I really liked them until I rode one. All I can say is bikes are different things for different people, dont believe the hype and pick the bike thats best for you
Do u want to sell it?
+Matty Boy you don't have enough money!
