Big League Freddie, they saw this other lad (Roger Marble) playing Baseball really well and thought he was Fred, and it wasn't until everyone took the nark that Fred fessed up and said it wasn't him playing.
Fred Flintstone got knocked out of a baseball game and a rookie took his place and played tremendously. Instead of being honest Fred took credit for that kid’s effort to get himself a rich contract. In other words Fred was defrauding that kid for his own personal financial gain and thus his entire family turned against him for his dishonesty. I think that best describes the situation.
