I recommend this diff for your v8 E39 540i or E90. It works great and seems to do everything I want it to. Stay tuned for a drifting and long term review.
Awesome install video! Ive been looking at the mfactory diff for my Z4 3.0si, but with the info you gave in the video I now know that a Wavetrac would fit in my car and probably be better. The Z4 is a weird parts bin car from Bmw where the earlier pre facelifts were just e46's with the m54 and e46 diffs, but the facelift models 06-08 have e90/128i power plant (n52 engine and 128i diffs) and still have e46 suspension and subframing. so Its really vauge on what I can get away with. Now Im pretty set on the wavetrac! I was wondering though, why did you opt to reuse the old carrier bearings? Was it to save money, or so you didnt have to re-shim for lash? If you got new carrier bearings- would you have to re-shim both sides if you did? Because if you have to re-shim both sides with newly installed carrier bearings, I think I might take it to a Diff shop, so I dont have to deal with the lash- as I know I dont have the tools to remove the old ones without breaking them and wouldnt want to tear apart the diff again if I messed up on shimming LOL.
Thanks for watching! Usually with these older BMWs I inspect things before I replace them. These diffs are built so well with great components from BMW. If there is no signs of pitting or wear, I re-use them with full confidence. Yes it helps reduce my chance of needing to re-shim the backlash, but its not a guarantee. The higher risk is buying a replacement bearing that made cheaply and taking a step back that way.
So far so good everything is working as intended. I never did get to take it drifting to see how it performs in that scenario. But on the street and doing burnouts I couldn't ask for anymore. Super smooth with no noise. You really forget that its in there. I dont know how many miles I have on it so far but I am thinking only 10-15k as I havent been driving that car as much
I havent got to put it through its paces at a real drift event yet. Its been good for a couple street hits but I dont have enough drift time with it to give a real evaluation
@@spankranchgarage currently doing an s52 swap in a 97 528i and plan on boosting it, I had a couples questions, how difficult was it to install the 540i diff? Was it plug and play? Also would you recommend this lsd for boosted cars?
i really like your presentation. i dont usually subscribe after just one video but the burnout with the bike on the trailer sold me. cheers
Thank you! I’m always up to some shenanigans
that snap ring is fucking wild!
I look forward to long term and drifting review!
Hey cool video. What kind of clutch are you running, do you have to change clutch frequently? Thanks!
Nice video.
I really feel like this thing is ready to haul the buggy
First of that's a slick top and I love it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice Video 👍
I was so waiting for you to get a prybar to the face!
Badass!!!

Do you have the part number for the bearings you replaced?
That eternally launching spring hahahaha
Hello is this 210 mm on your diff ?
Excellent video, the amount of oil, wouldn't it just be 1 liter?
Does it make any sense to use this diff for snowy roads? I have e46 320d rwd
It wont hurt. Depending on how much snow driving you do would dictate if its worth the coast and labor though.
Can you give an update on the diff today?

I suspect you're not concerned for your eyes......safety first.
how is it drift have u tried it yet?

What colour is your car. So beautiful. Is it oem?
Its not OEM but I wanted it to look like Estoril Blue. Its a bit lighter

Will this fit a 528i e39?
Kind of. Mine is a 528i but it fits because I installed a 540i diff

@@maliekbrown3687 the wavetrac is great for straight line. It'll work for drifting, but definitely more straight line oriented.
