  • I decided to upgrade the differential in my 2000 Integra Type R. I ended up with a Wavetrac unit that I really love. In this video I show you how to install a limited slip differential into a Honda B series transmission. This can also be used as a general guide for the disassembly of other Honda manual transmissions. The video includes torque specs, the description below has parts and tool links.
Link to video about how I ended up with a Wavetrac Differential: Video link posted when available.

When I manual-swapped my 1998 S70 T5 a few years ago, I installed a Quaiffe limited-slip differential. It made a significant different in the amount of power transferred to the road, especially in wet conditions. I also own a 2007 Acura TL Type S, but it's an automatic; the manual-trans Type S did come with a factory-equipped limited slip differential, but the automatic did not.

First video in awhile and I have firsthand experience with this job 😄
Given how much headache I had when replacing the bearings in my GSR transmission, I kind of wish I spent the money on an LSD. I broke the case and bent the plate of the shift mechanism of the transmission doing what you did, tightening down bolts because the dowel of the shift mechanism doesn't sit perfectly flat on its own so the other end wasn't notching into the case. After that $400 dollar disaster and figuring out I could use a Flathead to press down on the flat plate that the rod sits in to get it to sit straight up, then the case went right down.
The differential bearings were also a trip, one came off with some heat and nothing more than my gloved hand lifting it up, The other I had to cut off because even the bearing puller wasn't moving it past the point where the chisel could get it to.
Also those detent springs can be replaced / upgraded for a firmer shift feel, FYI.

One thing I always do when re-assembling split case transmissions is to make up 3 or 4 "dowels" by cutting the heads off of some 4" - 6"(whatever length works for you) bolts. Taper the ends on a grinder and the alignment becomes a breeze.
