Original video: • Chick Corea - Elektric...
Pretty sure he gets that tone from the Casio watch he’s wearing.
😆
😅
Kmart , oh maybe Tandy...great comment.hm2
Bit of a shameful story from his visit to Costa Rica. Mr. Henderson decided to get a cab on his own after the gig, and he got mugged. They stole his Casio watch. Probably not the same on this video. Someone should have told him that the large dreadlocks look with the large Tshirt and the baggy jeans... The one who know who the guy is, they know it's a brilliant musician. Those who don't, he might as well be a weed dealer in the middle of the street.
:-))
Scott Henderson is one of the most underrated players ever! His album Tore Down House is blues gospel!
Fuk yeah
Dr.hee
No one that has any knowledge underrates him. In the circles where people know what's up, he is a legend and #2 after Holdsworth.
@@user-ov5nd1fb7s Exactly! "Underrated" by whom?! Idiots? Scott's a master, and everyone knows it! He may not be a household name for the masses, but he is Legend!
Among the mainstream audience, yup. Scott is more like a professor type of lad. But oh baby, in music schools at guitar departments... yes, they are well aware of Scott Henderson. Keep in mind that with Chick Corea, he really wasn't getting along and it was not a comfortable gig for him. But still, you could not tell from his playing or anything in the performance.
Tribal Tech, the blues stuff, the VTT records... for guitarists, they are just extremely humbling for any guitarist. May be the strangest kind of blues guitar of them all, and he makes it work. Even his early VHS lessons... they use to play them at a music shop in my city. His stuff (and Frank Gambale's stuff) was so alien to us rocker kids and metalheads roaming the shop.
I missed the time he came to Costa Rica to play with his blues band. So bad he had a hard time. The lad just went out to get a taxi and got mugged right outside the jazz club. ANYONE at the club would have been more than glad to drive him safely to the hotel. Someone should have told him that "Professor Henderson, dude, Scott... you just can't go out there in the street in the middle of the night. They do not know who you are and you like you a goddamn drug dealer!". I think they stole his wallet and an inexpensive watch, so his visit to Costa Rica most likely left a bad aftertaste on him.
My No 1 guitarist : Scotty Henderson! the cool ass he is ...
I met Scott at NAMM around 2005, through my friend Scott Lerner. I shook his hand and all I could say "you're my favorite". For a long time I felt like an idiot for just saying that, but now that I look back at it, it was the perfect thing to say.
I love his stepping out and stepping back in without any effort, it's Terrific!!
Screech going hard!
The only thing that would make this better is to have the chord types above each bar. Great work!!!
each measure is Em7 to F#m7 up until :32 when its | Em7 F#m7 | Gm7 | and around 1:00 its back to just |Em7 F#m7| and at 1:30 its the second change again. Just those two vamps back and forth
Isn't a single chord?
There are some changes
You should be able to hear the chords without seeing them printed. The progression is not that complex. Essentially just one chord most of the time...lol!
@@chadrew6 I mean in general with all of the transcriptions.
I didn't know Screech could play guitar like this
I was the drummer in a band with Scott right before he moved to La to go to GIT. We were room mates as well . Lived in the ghetto of West Palm Beach. They leveled the place later I heard.
Scott is one of the Kings Of Fusion, guitar.
About a year before saved by the bell TV show came out we sent our Singer to California with a DEMO. No Contract was signed so he came home empty handed. One year later there is a new kid show called "Saved by the Bell!" the Theme Song sounded like our original "It's Alright" off of our 12 song album. Most likely coincidental but who knows.
This solo pretty much the essence of Scotts playing Just Fiyah🔥
Whewwie I love this solo, especially the first 25 seconds are just incredible but the whole solo is just dripping with juice, Henderson is the coolest!
Bars 7 to up until 12, this part lives in my head rent free forever, it's such an invention goddamn!
Saw him live tonight! Was one of the best live concerts ever seen...!! his sound is actually better today.
i think this sound is his best
Somewhere around Reality Check, Screech’s balls dropped and his guitar tone changed forever. All we have now are these old reruns by which to remember the innocent early years.
Nice one mate. I can definitely hear 'Ed went to the store' and pretty much he did afterwards!!!!
Wasn't that off his melodic phrasing video? I think I have that one.
Dog Party is still one of my all-time favorite blues albums. 👍
Same
Got to see tribal tech when dr.hee came out, great show.
Lucky enough to have a guitar teach who introduced me to Steve Morse, Scott Henderson, Eric Johnson, and many others!
I am loving all these clips from players I'd never encounter. Expertly tabbed too 👌
Great Levi!!! Ya gotta love Scott
Awesome work Levi.
Great player
Great solo. Nice watch too
Such a cool watch
Great Work, Thanks!!!!!
I love this channel!
This channel loves you
Screech shreddin' that shit.
The Master!
LMFAO!! SCREECH is back!!
Wow, the best guitar!!!!
Jamie Glaser was the studio guitarist for saved like the bell TV show. He was a classmate of mine at Berklee College of music in the mid 1970s.
He was a shredder before the term shred was used.
Somehow, this band fit in the old Blues Alley in DC. Henderson's guitar head was hovering over our real heads as we sat about two feet from him at those small round tables. He bummed a smoke from me and drank our water, we were glad to oblige. That was as close to any musician I have ever been during a show, no worries, I was a guitar player.
one of the more pocket/groovy/funky guitar fusion players, this is a very cool vamp, the bass is just playing two notes pretty much!
I'dve said 4
@@paulkuglitsch9285 well, two chord change....two roots....
I think his guitar face equals John Mayer’s. Great work Levi-your holiday presents to us over the last month have been amazing.
Everyone else-Levi is the real deal. Support him. I had him do a transcription about a month ago and the quality was impeccable. Also Levi, I know I paid for it, but feel free to post it for everyone (it was the Frank vignola one).
That’s a great solo!
What solo from frank
John Mayer is not even qualified to hold his guitar while Henderson is taking a shit.
Come on now, for all intents and purposes, they aren't playing the same instrument.
@@user-ov5nd1fb7s No need to be a snob. I think everyone knows Mayer can't play shit like this but he's a hell of a player for what he does. There's a reason why he's well respected and even played with Chick Corea, Herbie, and Scofield. And note OP talked about the guitar face, not the playing.
RIP Screech
The legend.
Henderson is amazing for sure !!! I must mention Pattituci's bass line. son groovy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pattituci could play this song in his sleep
Super tasty, as always
Screech, all the time i cant unsee it. I wish i could play like him though.
First time I saw Scott Henderson's look, the music video of Elektric City, couldn't help to think anything but Screech!! 😂
Scott Henderson is like the Shawn Lane of going full jazz fusion on saved by the bell
Reading the title I was expecting to hear a jazzy rendition of Friends 4-Ever
Be sure to listen to the masterful comping by Chick Corea-simultaneously following and leading.
I’m glad Im not the only one thinks Scott Henderson in 1986 looked like Screech lol
Saved by the bell 🤣
They were kids ! Awesome
Lol, he does look like the guy from save by the bell. You had me taking a double take
Nice transcription of this live bit from King Cockroach!
Scott Henderson And Buzz Feiten The best Jazz/Blues Fussion Guitarists of all time
Make a video about Buzz Feiten
If this doesn’t get brought up on the next GuitarWank podcast Ima be disappointed lol
Meisterhaft ❤🦍🎸🎵🎶🙏🏻
sounds like altered scale approaches. a couple of chord symbols would be nice yet it sounds like it's in E Dorian
Scott’s stories from the Chick band are so funny, interpersonally speaking he definitely wasn’t a fit lol
apparently Chick was very straight edge, and Scott, being a young guy on the road, was often out on the lash, and on the pull! 😆
@sock Yep, Chick was. Scott said he had a zero tolerance policy for drinking and other nefarious activities.
Gosh Chick Corea was into Scientology? And he wrote Spain? Can't go too Spain without living the gypsy life
It was worse than that. Chick told his band members how to dress and made them write a critique of their own performance after every show. He'd tell Scott to go to the front of the stage when he soloed and when Scott complained that he couldn't hear himself when he did that (this was long before the days of in-ear monitors), Chick told him that the show was more important than his playing. Bill Connors quit before Scott did the same, and for similar reasons. Both guitarists had the utmost respect for him as a composer and improviser, but couldn't stand working with him. Scott and Chick are two of my all-time favorite musician/composers; too bad Scientology got in the way of them being able to work together.
Chick had been a Scientologist since the early 70s and remained so for the rest of his life. I consider him to be a genius composer and improviser; sometimes you have to tune out the person to appreciate their art.
Never realized that young Scott H looked allot like Screech
Rad.
how dare you! hahahaha!!!!
ahah was wondering if I was the only one who figured it out
ZAC ATTACK..
Was this before or after Lisa Turtle played bass?
Can i request ..Dr. Hee by Scott(tribal tech?
Hahaa ! He does look like screech! 😂
Really wanna transcribe this for banjo…any chance you also have notation?✌🏽
I can't see the headstock of his guitar. What kind of guitar was it? It looks like some custom charvel.
It was a Charvel, you can see it more clearly in the video of him playing Caribbean at GIT
Slater on Bass, Screech on guitar
Never thought I'd say this...but the dreads actually suited him 🤣
Love hearing his playing...expert use of pentatonic substitutions to maintain interest over the vamp, as well as give his phrases a recognisable base for when he DOES go into outside playing.
He said in an interview with Rick Beato that he takes a lot of influence from the Blues-based players, and has found that the straight up bebop guys can sound colder, even if they're really good.
Look up his interview and its really illuminating
@0:36
Nice video preppy.
Screech Powers ripping
Extra points for the California jazz guy costume. It was Halloween, right?
2:10 💀
Is the bass player the same as in the Chick Corea/Frank Gambale transcription that you did?
Yep,
John Patitucci is the bassist. He was the guy back then. Victor who?
Is this on your Patreon??
It will be - I need to do a big dump of tabs. Need a better method than having patreon email everyone every day lol
@@LeviClay ok, thanx! I’ll wait For them!
In the words of Gwen Steffani..... Thas my shit! Weckl holding down the groove.
Seems as though no one got the Screech reference. Just Dustin off Diamonds over there eh?
Got A Match, from the same concert, was a much better performance in my opinion. Classic!
Didnt know Jake Gyllenhaal shreds so hard
Smokin…
Do 'Face First' by Tribal Tech. I dare you.
Mark Paul gosselar's friend 😅
And that night Screech lost his virginity to Lisa
leaves me cold and bored im afraid......
Justin Trudeau plays bass???
Henderson is great and was great on the first album, but Gambale was definitely a better fit for the CCEB. Tribal Tech was more Scott's style.
You youngsters forgot Arnold Horseshack from "Welcome Back Kotter"
I think Scott grew out those dreads to distance himself from either one
Tribal Tech to this day is still the best band I ever saw...and I also saw Chicks Electric Band during this time
They were great, but Tribal Tech just annihilated....and I mean everybody. No disrespect to Chick but they were boring in comparison
Thank you to Scott and Gary Willis for ruining me for all other bands
uhg directionless noodling this is not his best moment
Joan! Hey - you and I were discussing some things the other day.
I gotta say - I respect your opinion as far as whether you like / dislike something but -
"Directionless" this ain't. Nor is it noodling. You're certainly within your rights to dislike it but to say crazy stuff like that doesn't reflect well on you.
scott henderson>>>>>>>>>steve vai.
BAD AS FUC
Manganese is a good song as well
