    In my humble opinion, Scott is the best. The only guitarist I'd fly anywhere in world to see if I could afford it.

    For me, Scott Henderson and Allan Holdsworth both occupy this rare stratum of achievement on the electric guitar that is almost too scary and overwhelming to pursue

      Funnily enough they were the 2 guitarists who played on Jean-Luc Ponty's "Enigmatic Oceans" album and that was the first time I heard Scott. I was lucky enough to see both of them live and have a little chat with them.

    I appreciated Henderson back in the 80s, but, to me, he was just another derivative of Holdsworth, and I would prefer to listen to Holdsworth than all the wannabes. But, in the 90s when he turned to sophistacated blues-jazz fusion, he completely floored me! He forged a unique blend of blues, jazz and rock that can be rootsy, jarring, then lyrical and fluid displays of palying the changes in a flurry of tasteful lines. He is great and I have enjoyed his music for the past (almost) 30 years. My favorite Henderson album is "Tore Down House."

    • @gguitar2438
      @gguitar2438 Год назад +2

      I don't quite see what justifies defining Henderson as a Holdsworth wannabe. Phrasing wise, or feel, rhythm playing, just to mention a few aspects, are distinct. And althought Hendeson did do full blues albums in the 80, he injected lots of A-King inpired approach in his soloing. Holdsworth, create his style withing the fusion's genre; so did Henderson. It seems to me rather unfair to state otherwise

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  Год назад +2

      You're 100% right. Allan's influence was very clear in Scott's early career, and people often miss it. You listen to the first tribal tech record, the solo on Caribbean is Allan lite. One of the more obvious examples that wasn't his own recordings was on the first Jeff Berlin album
      This could have been Allan!

      @@LeviClay No guitar player comes out of a vacum vacum - every player carries influences. But from there, to defyning the whole Henderson's playing style as a Holdsworth wonnabe is a long shot. It takes zooming in on a specific indicator, failing to see the whole picture. With the same bias, one could make a case for other guitar players

    You know What? That's what?? Right there!!! Let me just say, There's been a lot of Jazz festivals over the years with the greatest jazz artist around. And jazz festivals had always a few blues artists there, I guess cause jazz and blues are related?! So BB King would be invited to play at these jazz concerts and , for some reason, He'd always seem to win the prize for the best artist there and he wasn't even a Jazz player. Scott Henderson, is both Blues(Albert King style) and fusion like maybe Greg Howe?? His fusion is very "mind stimulating"?

      Over A7, he starts off with A Lydian Dominant (E Melodic Minor), then throws in some passing tones. Could argue that he throws in the b9 and b6 of A phrygian dominant, but I would guess he was just using passing tones (like the Bb and F over the A7, and all the #4/b5 notes after the Lyd dom portion.).
