Dizzee Rascal on Growing up in the Projects & Raw Gun Culture in the U.K.

  • Growing up in East London, Dizzee Rascal, recollects his nomad-like upbringing in government housing before settling down in the Bow district. Similar to some Americans raised in section 8 housing, drugs and violence were a common occurrence. He tells DJ Vlad, "There's a real gun culture in the U.K., just for those who don't know." He explained, "It's very raw." Although not all U.K. police carry firearms compared to the United States police force, the 31-year-old rapper clarified that there's also a limited amount of guns obtained by English citizens because the right to bear arms is not a staple in their culture due to some unfortunate incidents. He said, "They're not as gun crazy there in general because it's not apart of that-you guys have it apart of the Amendment, so it's looked down upon."

    Let's not make it a competition in the comment section about which side is this, or which side is that. We both have music artists from each side that we all love. There are many music artists from the USA that are loved in the UK, just like there are many music artists from the UK that are loved here in the USA. I got love for Dizzee Rascal, Ed Sheeran, Lily Allen, Marsha Ambrosius, and many more UK artists. As far as Grime goes, hopefully more of those artists will become known over here, because Dizzee Rascal has been known here for about a decade. From the USA I send my respects.

    Guidline for schools in Uk
    Primary School: 5 - 11
    Secondary School: 11 - 16
    College: 16 - 18
    University: 18 +

    • @saiello2061
      @saiello2061 4 года назад

      If you're talking PHYSICAL schools: Infant school 4‐7. Junior school 7‐11. If you're talking primary EDUCATION, its 4‐11. 16‐18 is likely a continuation of Secondary school if you're taking traditional subjects like maths, English, chemistry, etc, with views to going to university. Otherwise, you can do these same traditional subjects at a college but mainly colleges cater for other types of non traditional courses more suited to your interests/abilities such as Information Technology, building industry, etc. Students generally take the college route if they intend to go into the world of work rather than further study. The opposite of the US.

    Over here in London our equivalent to projects are estates (council estates). We don't really have hoods we call it endz, we have shit areas but they're not on the scale as the hoods in America from what I've seen when I go to the US, because even the shittest areas in London still only minutes/seconds away from richer, middle classed areas. Like I witnessed large areas in the US that are fully black, but even the blackest areas in London are still filled with a lot of Asians and Whites because there's just not as many of us blacks here as there are over there.
    With the guns over here because the laws are so strict a lot of people don't just carry them as openly as in the states. There are a fair amount of guns on the streets but people have them stashed somewhere to bring out when needed. Obviously there are some serious roadmen out there who are exceptions to the norm who always stay strapped.

    • @elliot2177
      @elliot2177 8 лет назад +1

      ***** then you are nuts if you think London is worse.You come here with that mentality you will go back to where ever you from in a body bag.We have strict gun laws but that Does not mean u won't get shot and killed.Other cities have strict gun laws so you will defintely die with that outlook.

    • @ThePremez
      @ThePremez 8 лет назад

      +E Haynes but in London everywhere cans be 'endz'. And you encounter roadmen that will stab you with ease. Getting shot is much less likely. I'm nt scared of getting shot in London per say, I'm scared of getting stabbed rt. And it can happen in any part of the city.

    • @elliot2177
      @elliot2177 8 лет назад +1

      ThePrimebrook you can get stabbed,shot or cut in the major cities here too.You are a fool if you think that you are not scared of getting shot.I rather and I have taken my chance with all three and ill tell you, guns are worse.Knives you have to be up on me.You will never get that close to me.With guns, you don't have to be close.Im talking from experience.Which I can tell that you don't have by your last comment.That's the other problem, ppl see ny and they swear its all lights and signs.That's Times Square but most of N.Y. has what you guys call,"endz".You can even get it in Times Square.There has been ppl shot and killed in Times Square too in front of the cops. Don't come here with that mentality, I'm telling you for your own good.
