I bought this table set back in 2009!! It lasted forever, it was a great set. It looks amazing without the Golden Oak stain! Wonderful job, once again!!
I actually love the warm, chocolate color of the stain. It is beautiful and your attention to detail is unmatched. Great job on this gorgeous coffee table.
My late husband and I bought this same coffee table (with the 2 side tables) has our first furniture, when we married in 1996.. Whay a memory, thank you.. This looks beautiful..❤🙏🫶
Commendable job there and you also helped the environment by saving wood from ending up in the dump and also putting some dollars in your pocket. Good Job !
Hi generally don’t comment much on posts, but I really admire and believe you do an awesome awesome job and you’re a great teacher! I just did my first desk for my daughter and it took a little bit of learning, but it is a solid wood desk From Salvation Army. It came with the Haverty chair as well and they match. Paid $124 for it, but since it’s just for my own use or rather my daughters than I thought that was OK. But you’re right the prices have gone up at these places, which is really crazy.
I love the color of the stain that you chose!!!! It's so much more gorgeous than the icky golden oak (whoever came up with that stain is bonkers imo). It just really brings out the richness in the herringbone pattern. Thank so much for sharing😊😊😊😊
Your channel was just recommended to me and I'm so glad it was! It's nice to see videos that include the smaller pieces of furniture which many of us are able to flip.
I'm so glad you decided to refinish this coffee table. I had the same table with matching end tables in the 1980's-1990's. I'm not sure what happened to the other 2 pieces, but I still have one table in my garage. I've been nervous about jumping into flipping furniture, but I always say my first project will be this table. Thank you so much Lauren for the step by step instructions. It was all very clear except for how you taped up the herringbone top of the table. Could you explain how you taped up the herringbone section?
I found a octagon coffee table with wicker bottom and glass top with beveled edges. My mom had one in this house when I was growing up..I got it for 20.00!! Found the matching sofa table for 50.00 goung to try to get it cheaper.. ❤ This turned out beautiful ❤️
You might want to get some toner. It really helps to even out stain color on projects with different woods or different grains. I’ve used it before staining and after staining and it really helps with blotching.
Water based stain is a problem for patterned veneer, as is paint washing. Fusion’s Stain and Finishing oil is my go to for stuff like this. No worries over streaking or blotchiness.
Thank you for showing the spotchiness (is that a word?) and how you worked your way out of it. The real problems and solutions are what help me the most. Thanks, Lauren! I love how this turned out.
Thanks for doing that table! I wanted to see a stain with topcoat. Great example! And YES, my projects always take longer than I expected!! 🤔 Keep up the good work Lauren ❤
I have a massive 1980-90s pier wall unit bedroom set in the same color as your coffee table. It is very sturdy and in great condition and will serve us for another 20 years. I don't necessarily want to get rid of the dressers but the wall unit with mirrors and that orange color just drive me nuts. We are also in the middle of a major master suite expansion/remodel, so every saved penny counts. Tried looking up this furniture and found out that a similar set on an Amish furniture website is still going for close to $7,000 (!!). My plan is to separate the pillars, get rid of mirrors and replace them with a new headboard. Not sure what I want to do for nightstands if I cut these pillars in half (they are made of two units-- cabinet with 2 doors on the top and a cabinet with 2 drawers on the bottom with an open shelf in between them). Not sure if I am explaining it well. This particular set has rounded tops and grooves on each drawer. I am terrified of how much sanding there will be for a complete novice. I think I will ask my hubby to build bases for all the pieces to raise them up (they are literally sitting on the floor). I know that this is very ambitious for a first-time project of this kind. Your tutorial at least gave me some ideas what to do and I love the finished color.
The streaking happened because you are using a water-based stain. If you ever do one again use a pre-stain conditioner and then use a penetrating stain. Trust me.
@@beebop4333 preconditioner does work on new wood or recently sanded wood. I've been doing this for 20 plus years. If you're using a gel stain all it does is sit on top of the wood. As I mentioned pre-stain conditioner is for using a penetrating stain.
It would be nice to update this coffee table with a smaller shelf that was connected to the legs with dowels, like about 4” under the skirt. Or put a false bottom under the table, attached with magnets, to give them a two inch hiding area! People pay for hidden storage.
Might have taken longer but it certainly came out beautiful. I am an oak fan but don’t like it to be that yellow color. The last piece I did I used one color and did not like it so I used a darker one on top and got a gorgeous color. You did a fabulous job.
My question is how do I tell if the furniture piece has veneer?? I am interested in learning how to redo furniture to flip. I am also curious about why they use veneer when the wood itself is so beautiful.
Wow!! I love how you decided to stain out that dated golden oak color instead of painting over it. The warm color really shows off the grain and beautiful herringbone
I think I would have gone a little darker on the stain. Something about that color isnt appealing to my eye. Other than that, I would definitely have made this table over. ❤
We had this coffee table and I always wanted a shelf under the top to hold magazines and the like, leaving the beautiful herringbone on display.
The color of the stain is LIFE GIVING! I am now hunting my hoard to see what I can stain that color! Thanks for sharing!
I bought this table set back in 2009!! It lasted forever, it was a great set. It looks amazing without the Golden Oak stain! Wonderful job, once again!!
That is awesome! thanks!
Crazy how not that long ago these lines were dated and now they’re back in trend again. I’m loving these lines again in need modern stains
I actually love the warm, chocolate color of the stain. It is beautiful and your attention to detail is unmatched. Great job on this gorgeous coffee table.
Thank you so much!
Haha, my dad has this exact table. He sanded it and never stained it. I might just do it for him. And he can enjoy! ❤
My late husband and I bought this same coffee table (with the 2 side tables) has our first furniture, when we married in 1996..
Whay a memory, thank you..
This looks beautiful..❤🙏🫶
Me 2!! My exhusband and I had the same set. Memories.....
❤❤❤❤❤
Commendable job there and you also helped the environment by saving wood from ending up in the dump and also putting some dollars in your pocket. Good Job !
thanks! that’s the goal!
You really brought that table back to life. One of the reasons you are such a master craftsman is your patience. Kudos to you.
It's beautiful! Thank you for continuing to show small projects along with your bigger ones. Helps us not feel overwhelmed with our home projects. 👍
You are so welcome!
It turned out really nice, much better than the yellow Orange finish before. I love it

It’s time consuming but that’s why your stuff always turns out so beautifully. You take that extra time and care.

I'm not a fan of coffee tables but I love this one.

so glad it was helpful…I cut the tape and lined it up with each edge of herringbone! hope you try your table soon!
I got a very similar table for free and its sitting in my garage so I can decide what to do. Now I know! Thanks for the video.
Nice project Lauren, the darker stain suits the table perfectly!
Beautiful Lauren! That style is classic and timeless now that the golden tone is gone.
Looks so amazing! My wife is just now starting her RUclips journey with furniture flipping and she is absolutely loving it
Love how you’ve restored this beautiful coffee table ❤
This turned out really nice, initially I felt the bottom part could have been painted but I prefer it stained.
I had the same thoughts!

SO AWESOME, Great Job !
Love the darker stain!
The color and more matte finish look gorgeous.
I’m so glad you were able to do a full stain on this one. It works so well with the design, and makes for a nice change from paint. Bravo!
Water based stain is a problem for patterned veneer, as is paint washing. Fusion’s Stain and Finishing oil is my go to for stuff like this. No worries over streaking or blotchiness.
It looks lovely now, glad you decided to do what you did with it.
Good choice not painting, it looks fabulous ❤
can you give an update on how your be and breakfast and store is doing?
we sold the airbnb and our storefront is currently closed due to someone running into it with their vehicle in May 😊

I agree with the darker look. Great job.❤️
so much more modern, worth all your work and time
Wow, the coffee table look amazing! Well done ❤🎉❤🎉
Great tips! Very useful. Thank you.
Turned out beautiful! Love the color of the stain. Thank you
Looks beautiful and I know someone will snatch it up and love it!

Beautiful, Lauren! I love your videos!
Wow that is beautiful.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love the color! It’s beautiful!

ahh thanks
Use gel. No streaks. Pre conditioner doesnt always work

Would have looked great with blackstain and wax top... Showing the grain.
This is the way
Really gorgeous❤
That was a labour of love. Liked it that you explaind a lot of techniques and the reasons why.
Top Job ❤
Thank you very much!
Another job well done! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💕
This is a beautiful color tone.
Thanks for sharing! 💯
Oh my word!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂I had the exact coffee table when my kids were little
hehe look what it could’ve been!
Holy cow I love that color!!
I’m so glad you went with stain. I was sad at the thought of the wood grain in this piece being painted. Great eye
Ive stain a lot of furniture mainly using Watco but never had a problem with streaking 13:49

Yay! I've been waiting to see what you're gonna do with that table!! 😂
Hope you like it!
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher Girl!! I haven't seen anything you've flipped that I didn't like yet! You're extremely talented! ☺️
Lovely piece!!!😊🎉❤
Special Walnut is my go to stain. So glad you didn’t paint it!
Love this color!
Very pretty! ❤
It really is pretty now!
thank you!

Gorgeous!
Great job!!!! Love it ❤
Turned out great! 🎉
I've always found that if you're working quick enough, following the grain with staining isn't that critical. It's the sanding where it counts.
I was thinking you would use a white wash stain. That might have been pretty as well.
Staining different stains on top and legs might be interesting.
My question is how do I tell if the furniture piece has veneer?? I am interested in learning how to redo furniture to flip. I am also curious about why they use veneer when the wood itself is so beautiful.
Came out fantastic
That turned out beautiful but no surprise here. Great job I don’t think you will have a problem selling it.
Thank you very much!
How do you know what grit sandpaper to use?
Where can I find the lily moon prep cleaner? I can’t find it
Beautiful! Finally some real wood grain instead of plastering paint over everything!
Use circular motions when mixed grains
Beautiful.
I'm glad you decided to keep it one color. I think painting the bottom would have been a mistake.
I think so too! it was meant to stay wood!
It’s beautiful!!! ❤
gorgeous!
Beautiful Color.
Beautiful ❤
The cocktail table came out nicely. I feel you could have priced the table higher but iive in NJ and things cost more here!
Looks so good
Love it!
Wow!! I love how you decided to stain out that dated golden oak color instead of painting over it. The warm color really shows off the grain and beautiful herringbone
Great job 👏
❤ this you are awesome
Hi! I’m a new Subbie here! So, is the rule to scuff if you’re planning to paint and sand if you’re planning to stain?
Can use use stain in a spray gun????
A lot of work but it looks sooo good! 🥰🥰🥰
thanks!!
I think I would have gone a little darker on the stain. Something about that color isnt appealing to my eye. Other than that, I would definitely have made this table over. ❤
Have you ever tried Black Washing? I would love to see you do a piece because I have a curio cabinet that I'm thinking of having done in a black wash.
yes I did! I had an arched cabinet i did a black wash! check it out on my channel 😊
Love the color! Would it have been less trouble to use a gel stain?
hmm, I dont think so only bc you’d still have to drag/wipe it to spread and it just wouldn’t match up either the wood grain 🫠
Very nice! Would using a pre stain wood conditioner on the bare wood on top have helped make it all even?
no, that is more for just evening out how the wood takes the stain. also, a pre stain is for oil based products 😊
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher you
may want to research. Water based pre stain conditioner exists that can be used with water based stain.
What area are you from (state)? Thanks, Loving your work.
Very nice.. may I know whay type of sander you are using it.I would to get that one.
for sure! the links are in the description 😊
