Like most people mentioned , that top edge is a deal breaker for me. It should have been attached under the top edge of the table. The idea is great but the way it’s attached really stands out.
Only thing I would have done differently is start the pole wrap under the top lip for a more finished look. But the stain is just lovely and it certainly has the more modern fluted vibe you were going for!!
Curious to know why you didn't start under the top lip. Now, there is an edge discrepancy. Maybe if it had been sanded at an angle, it wouldn't be so noticeable. I have the same idea for my coffee table and wanted to see how someone else would do it. Thanks for sharing! 😊
If you decide to sell it, you may wanna do something with the edge, I love what you did and would’ve preferred a finished edge, perhaps a touch larger than the base
I Applaud stepping outside the box here, it's Very inspiring and definitely gets the brain juices flowing 👏 Thank you Christina for always bringing something new. Inspire, challenge and encourage thats what you do for me. Ty ❤
Great idea. Pole wrap is an versatile material to work with. I would like to see a finished edge at the top. What about feet or a low wide pedestal? These 80 s table were so big and hulking looking so raising it up somehow may help. I probably wouldn't have looked twice at this outdated table and certainly wouldnt have a vision for it.
In addition to the raw edge as mentioned numerous times before, I didn't like that there was nothing supporting the pole wrap on the sides. I wouldn't like to own something hollow. It could be damaged too easily.
I have a very similar table but with the glass inserts in top. Have wanted to tone down the color and this is so inspiring. Wondering why you didn’t leave an opening on one side to access the interior for storage. Maybe a hidden door/panel for access?
I was wondering why she didn't do that as well. It would be a great place to store serving trays (sliding them all the way to the back) or magazines magazines and other trifles when company is coming.
Love the stain color it looks great! I agree with others the edge is unfinished looking. I liked the gold from the original and I would have tried to keep it in the design. I love everything you do and always learn from you. TY.
Good quick change with the wrap. More difficult but more uniform end result if wrap was in full length. Need a bit more out of the box thinking for wrap top edging:)))
When I glue something like the wrap you used I lay a wood strip over the edge and then clamp the area. It gives me a more uniform seal and I don't need as many clamps.
Christina, can you make some other suggestion for the top edge? I agree with all below about looking unfinished. Would you be able to put the fluting under the lip of the top? Otherwise, looks great!
Looks amazing 🤍 I found 2 side tables just like this coffee table and I loved them the moment I laid my eyes on them , I decided to paint them black . ☺️ I have them shown in my home, sweet home video series of my kitchen, dining and living room Reveal.
It's beautiful but I'm OCD and I think I would be annoyed that there is a bit of a gap at the top with your wood you wrapped around and it sticking to the table. I think I would have to put a flexible would trim around the top to finish it off. Great job!! I have never seen this wood you used.
What would it have looked like if the bottom would have gone under the brass? I think it was a great transformation, but the raw edge of the bottom looks a little unfinished for me.
They both get the job done great, but when I need a heavy duty sander I pull out my SurfPrep or my Festool. Ryobi orbital sander is what I exclusively for a long time- its a great sander!
I love it! You did a great job… Try some veneer edge banding at the top to cover that edge. As talented as you are, I think you could get it to work and then you could sell it for big $$$! 😊
I don't personally like the top edge, BUT it does match the second, rectangular inspiration picture. I'm not very familiar with Scandinavian style furniture but it seems to have that vibe. Putting the pole wrap under the top lip would probably have compromised the shape (and maybe not hidden that awful brass/gold trim!). My parents had a coffee table a lot like the original when i was growing up and it looked so heavy and dated, so it was nice to see how light and clean this turned out
I was going to ask how you calked or did your edges ? Overall it looks good for what you were going for. Oak is just not my wood of choice ever. I have bet liked the look of it not then or now lol but the stain is beautiful. ❤
Great tips, and awesome job. I have noticed the thrift shops around my area are going up in price. I live in a rural area, declined incomes, so I would be insulting you if I told you what to sell it at here.
I like this…the beaded wrap is cool. I don’t like how it looks unfinished at the top with gaps. I think if you’d put the wrap underneath the trim, it would have looked a lot better. Either that or fill in with a bead of stainable caulk or wood putty. Interesting nonetheless.
Top edge spoils it imo. Covering up the original brass trim and beautiful legs 😢. But one day someone will get a nice surprise when they remove the pole wrap. Doubt it will sell for much as is.
Probably would've been better to just sand it down and paint wash it to a newer school color with the grain still showing. Either that or fill in the gap between the flutes and the top with putty sand it flush and smooth, draw in the wood lines in then paint wash it. Lot more work but it would've completed the look. Or use the gap and incorporate some led lights in it.
I was helping a friend dispose of his son's 1980s furniture, after his son passed away. I listed the items on Marketplace, and was going to give them away, but put a small price on them, just so people would show up (like $10 for a table & chairs, and $5 for a side table that looks just like the coffee table in this video). I was SHOCKED at how many people (young people, no less!) who REALLY wanted 80s pieces. I was inundated with requests. So before you change the look of something, you might want to see if someone wants it in it's original 80s glory. :)
I think it needs legs... cylinder shaped legs. It looks weird with all that bulk around it without any opening... it needs to get lifted from the floor. I love the color but I don't like the edge of the pole wrap against the top surface... maybe using a trim will make complete and professional looking. Thanks so much for sharing
I don't think this is a real tambour door material, not if you can slice through the backing with a utility knife. These days manufacturers can make some really nice look-alike versions of more expensive materials. A pole wrap sounds like it would work for that very nicely.
I’m really surprised with this flip. It looks unfinished. Your work is normally really good but I would have to pass on this. It needs a trim piece on the edge of the pole wrap. Don’t care for this piece as is.
The top edge is bad, it's unfinished and looks obviously just something added as an after thought, without really thinking about how it fits. I really wouldn't be happy if I bought this piece. Don't like it.
Only thing I’d change is that top edge. It looks unfinished. Everything else is great. ❤️
Maybe wood glue
Agreed. Maybe some of that bendable putty stuff.
That edge would drive me crazy.
Maybe remove the gold ring and sand the sides, so the top edge is on top.
Bothered me so much

Add trim to the top edge, would look so much nicer and finished. I wouldn’t try to sell it until that happened.

Love it ~ would like a closing trim at the top edge where the table and the side boarding meets to finish it off 😊 $1000
If you decide to sell it, you may wanna do something with the edge, I love what you did and would’ve preferred a finished edge, perhaps a touch larger than the base
Love this idea so much!

Thank you Christina for always bringing something new.
Inspire, challenge and encourage thats what you do for me.
Ty ❤
The refreshed wood is so lovely and it's a nice idea; a refined top edge and opening panel would be a great plus for selling.
KEEP IT. IT’S FABULOUS!

It's pretty but I'd definitely put some kind of strip to complete the transition gap.
In addition to the raw edge as mentioned numerous times before, I didn't like that there was nothing supporting the pole wrap on the sides. I wouldn't like to own something hollow. It could be damaged too easily.
I wish she provided an access point for storage, I always need storage
Turned out fantastic and I am so glad you were creative with the stain and didn't "paint wash" 😀
Thanks so much! 😊

A lot of work goes into this but it is so worth, beautiful, luv it.❤
I love it, it's beautiful ❤️
Thank you! 😊
Love the stain color it looks great! I agree with others the edge is unfinished looking. I liked the gold from the original and I would have tried to keep it in the design. I love everything you do and always learn from you. TY.
This one is so cool!! Love the 80s babies! :)
I am an 80s baby, too, and I love this makeover! :)
That is beyond gorgeous!!!!!!!!!
I love how it turned out but I would do something about the edge perhaps?
Maybe use round reed spline used to repair cane or rattan furniture on the gap?
And you did it again! Just beautiful!!❤
Thank you so much!!
Good quick change with the wrap.
More difficult but more uniform end result if wrap was in full length.
Need a bit more out of the box thinking for wrap top edging:)))
Nicely done!
When I glue something like the wrap you used I lay a wood strip over the edge and then clamp the area. It gives me a more uniform seal and I don't need as many clamps.
Great suggestion!
Christina, can you make some other suggestion for the top edge? I agree with all below about looking unfinished. Would you be able to put the fluting under the lip of the top? Otherwise, looks great!
I wonder if you could use metal or something bemdable to create a trim piece at the top of the pole wrap. Maybe even wood putty.
Looks amazing 🤍
I found 2 side tables just like this coffee table and I loved them the moment I laid my eyes on them , I decided to paint them black . ☺️

Great job and wonderful information ❤❤❤❤
Looks like a coffee table we had! I don’t remember it having a bottom shelf! Any way it is long gone!😊
It's practically an antique! haha 😂
It's beautiful but I'm OCD and I think I would be annoyed that there is a bit of a gap at the top with your wood you wrapped around and it sticking to the table. I think I would have to put a flexible would trim around the top to finish it off. Great job!! I have never seen this wood you used.
Friend, please consider that using the label "OCD" isn't accurate and stigmatizing. You're not OCD, you're particular 😊
Beautiful job, if only you had some kind of itrim to cover the gaps between the table top and the pole wrap. I love to watch you work!
Thanks for the tips!
I remember that table my sister had one of those 😮❤
What would it have looked like if the bottom would have gone under the brass? I think it was a great transformation, but the raw edge of the bottom looks a
little unfinished for me.
Why do you sometimes use a SurfPrep orbital sander vs the Ryobi orbital sander? is there a difference? I love your videos😀 Thank you!
They both get the job done great, but when I need a heavy duty sander I pull out my SurfPrep or my Festool. Ryobi orbital sander is what I exclusively for a long time- its a great sander!
@@ChristinaMuscari thanks for explaining!
I love it! You did a great job… Try some veneer edge banding at the top to cover that edge. As talented as you are, I think you could get it to work and then you could sell it for big $$$! 😊
I just bought some trim the other day that I might add onto this one.
So Impressive‼️ I Love how adventurous you are! How much do you figure you have invested in this piece?
Love it!
That's cool, but I think I would have left one side open (maybe the side that would face a couch, e.g.) so it was available for storage.
I don't personally like the top edge, BUT it does match the second, rectangular inspiration picture. I'm not very familiar with Scandinavian style furniture but it seems to have that vibe. Fab job. How much would you ask for this makeover?
I was going to ask how you calked or did your edges ? Overall it looks good for what you were going for. Oak is just not my wood of choice ever. I have bet liked the look of it not then or now lol but the stain is beautiful. ❤

Beautiful!❤
Living in Franklin Tennessee can i assume you have seen the Dave Ramsey show live????😊😊
I have not, but I've been to their office and was on the Rachel Cruze Podcast.

Looks great 👍
Thanks 👍
Cannot believe you did that wearing white!
I thought you didn’t sell your pieces
e I am watching this,I am screaming,Please, put a trim over the wrap....everything looks great except the unfinished top or the wrap.
The first time someone puts their feet on it and scrapes the edge, off comes all that hard work. I'm with the rest, it looks unfinished.
Top edge spoils it imo. Covering up the original brass trim and beautiful legs 😢. But one day someone will get a nice surprise when they remove the pole wrap. Doubt it will sell for much as is.
Thanks for the inspo

Damn, that was my first table in my first apartment in 96
Beautiful❤
Gorgeous 👍🙋🏽♀
Thank you! 😊

I liked the metal strip around the edge, sad you covered it up. Otherwise beautiful.
It's not pole rap, it's called tambor and you use contact cement to apply it!!!
I don't think this is a real tambour door material, not if you can slice through the backing with a utility knife. These days manufacturers can make some really nice look-alike versions of more expensive materials. A pole wrap sounds like it
would work for that very nicely.
Impresionante, precioso
Definitely a DIY the gaps at the top are not great you do so much better
👏🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow!

The ugly 80s thrift store find doesn't look any better. The gap between the top of the table and the fluted sides looks awful. 19:38
Looks like a yellow oak
Needs an edge
Good idea
Looks yellow
Could me the camera
You need a trim pieces to cover the raw edge on the top and the bottom. Normally I really like what you do but this... nope.
Sorry, but it looks waaaay too bulky, like it's trying to hide a small bed.
the top makes no sense with what you did.... and the edge between to top and the side looks unfinished...
Sell it. Ask for $75. Nothing less
That wouldn’t cover the costs I don’t think.
The top edge is bad, it's unfinished and looks obviously just something added as an after thought, without really thinking about how it fits. I really wouldn't be happy if I bought this piece. Don't like it.
