Looked like Leon may have sustained a broken cheekbone or socket. If that was the case, the stoppage was necessary. He was taking a lot of punishment at the time. Spinks' training tended to be spotty due to lifestyle choices, the result being that he would run out of gas after five rounds or so. And he was an old 29 against a younger, more dedicated guy on the way up. Too bad how things turned out for Leon. He always seemed likeable and self-effacing.
