These two men were gladiators, not much skillful boxing, just power, will & tenacity, during the time when Boxing had 10 or more of these boxers. You had to have been nuts to climb in the ring back then in the heavyweight division.
Saw this live with my dad on Wide World of Sports on a Saturday afternoon. No Pay per View. For years never heard anything about it. It's so cool that classics like these are being shown now.
The 70's had to be the greatest era in heavyweight boxing. And, as the OP mentions, we got to see all these great fights for free, courtesy of ABC wide world of sports
Foreman possesses two unparalleled strengths, the endurance of punches and the power of his powerful punches, and his only lack is speed of movement. Foreman is the second greatest boxer in history after Muhammad Ali Clay, may God have mercy on him
@@FaithsFoundation Joe Frazier was a great swarmer but his style is tailor made for a brawler/ slugger like Foreman. Frazier bobbed and weaved to get inside but he had no back foot movement and remained on the inside, a move Foreman invited. Frazier was a bit slow as well. Tyson on the other hand at his best was fast, powerful and tenacious. He could get you in the inside, had evasive peek a boo head movement and evasive footwork unlike Frazier who just stayed inside getting punishment against punchers who hit harder than him. If Tyson and Foreman met when Foreman called him out, the fight would've gone the same way Holyfield vs Foreman went or Morrison vs Foreman, Tyson would've won by a decision. But yes Tyson ducked Foreman (who wouldn't, Foreman is a beast)
Greatest slugfest ever in all weight division. One of the greatest HW fight of all time. This was the return bout of Big George after 15 months of inactivity and his defeat to Muhammad Ali
@tloustrats "One of the greatest HW fight of all time." Well, if you prefer watching two slowpokes beating the shit out of each other, here's your ticket.
@8:47 is Lyle hurt? He takes a couple body shots from Foreman, then almost sits on the ropes. Then you can hear Foreman's trainer yell "go to the body/hook to the body" Then the announcers say Lyle is playing possum. I don't think so. I think Foreman nailed him with a left to the body.
I saw this fight live...this was truly a "Head Banger's Ball"..the amount of power shots thrown and landed on both was legendary. Back then there were no easy fights, any one of them could get you outta' there. I heard Foreman say that after this fight..he knew he was a fighter after that. An incredible bout.
Lyle's mistake is that he let Foreman lean on him waaay too much when Foreman was dazed. Should of pushed him off to stand him up straight (like Foreman does) and keep punching. Lyle had him 2-3 times but George was like, "Uh-uh, bump this man. How bout a hug" I'm sure his body weight began to wear on Lyle. Can't underestimate that being an under appreciated factor in the fight. George's experience helped him weather the storm. He's legendary for a reason. Great battle!
What a Fight ! One of best Heavyweight Boxing Combats in History of Boxing . Because , it was so hard for both . Lyle almost won with a KO vs Foreman to be world champ . But Foreman ricovered so well to beat Lyle by a KO . Ron Lyle is one of the most powerful punchers ever , by the way . Even more powerful puncher than Foreman according to George Foreman himself . According to Foreman , the most powerful puncher ever in Boxing and whom he faced with - Earnie Shavers and then, after him , Lyle and Cooney .
@18:50 Lyle had Foreman ready to go, but he ran out of gas! Both these guys were tough, strong & game. But Foreman just had better training & more experience.
@@RodneyShoaf-xm6futhis was not really a knockdown it was more due to heat and exhaustion than anything like in Rumble in the Jungle. Lyle is the only boxer to have knockdown George with pure strenght
@@newzild1 that was not a knockout like you're overpowered by your opponent. This was only due to exhaustion and George clearly said that relied on his corner count to get up but when he did referee stopped the bout
The commentator, so full of himself, missed seeing the 4 punches on Ron Lyle temple after Foreman was relieved after his Knock Down in the 4th round. Rather than displaying his opinions, he should concentrate on the fight.
The event was also memorable for Howard Cosell's agitated, incoherent ringside commentary. He seemed to be on some kind of a five second Glenlivet tape delay. One of Howard's best.
Ron Lyle ran out of gas allowing Foreman to come back and knock him out. If he hadn't ran out of gas he would've defeated Big George. Two sluggers going at it. A very good fight.
Foreman was not in great shape and his defense was very weak. He did have recuperative powers and that's what saved him. Lyle was the one who ran out of gas. Lyle did not hold when he was hurt. That was a mistake.
Dear Lord, I mean, why was the Ref even in the ring? To make the knockdowns official, I suppose. Lyle was beat at the end when he hit the ropes. Should have been stopped 20 seconds earlier. Terrifyingly horrid knockout.
Ha ha the time keepers clock wasn't wrong? Apparently it was Howard Cosell's clock. And in 2024 we can see that the RUclips clock is wrong too! 😂😂 The RUclips clock also clearly shows 2 minutes!

If the time keeper didn't deliberately ring the bell at the 2 minute mark in round 2 Foreman would have knocked him out, Lyle was hurt and pinned in a corner, Foreman was still fresh and had a habit of scoring KO's in the second round.

This is the best boxing channel in youtube by far. Thanks for uploading all these great, classic fights in great quality.
George Foreman is a legendary boxer!
......and when he hits you it's legendary !
George's voice has never changed as he's got older. A superstar of boxing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Superb quality, like seeing it for the first time
Wtf is this quality this is great
the pushing tactic of Foreman obviously didn't work on Lyle here which costs Foreman almost to get knocked out.
Cosell on Foreman: The man who knocked out Ken Norton who's sitting right next to me

always posting these fights in high quality, which is often difficult to find. thank you for the good work you do
If Ronnie Lyle had a bit more stamina he would have beaten George.
keep his left hand guard up - would help !
One of the best Slugfest ever. 👏👏👏
A classic heavyweight fight from a golden era of heavyweight boxing.
I hate Cossell. Always showed such favoritism. Put down boxers like Foreman. But I thought he was half way in love with Ali.

Aye you can tell when he hit good he get that little stagger like in a movie 😂🤣🙌🏾💪🏾💪🏾 big foreman
Ronnie = wow what a great fight - george super human and taking huge shots = thank you CHAMPIONS ! = 2 of them !
Amazing resolution, where did you get the video
If I had paid to watch this fight, I would have looked for the promoter after it was over and offer to pay again.
Big George looks like an angry Apollo Creed
Cosell going nuts just adds to the excitement!
This was a pier six brawl. George was out at the end of the 4th. Lucky the bell rang.
Lyle would have get TKOed in round 2 in normal condition
Norton was great to have commentating with Howard Cosell. But what an amazing fight.
