    I know a lot of you may have joined me for makeup related content from my early days on RUclips, and therefore my current content may not be exactly what you hoped for from me, so I am trying to think of ways I can incorporate maybe elements of that into my current content behind the scenes right now. I know a few of you said you liked vlogs for a relaxed way to talk about makeup, I will likely bring them back at some point, but even I think they're boring when we are all predominantly just at home.
    As RUclips is not my job, the content I create is often a reflection of what is going on in my life whilst trying to offer some sort of value a viewer can take from the content - and right now I'm very passionate about saving and reaching my financial goals, when I buy a house I will probably have some house/decorating content in and amongst personal finance videos, when I FINALLY declutter my wardrobe I'm sure there will be elements of fashion involved as I navigate my changing style as I get older etc - I hope that makes sense and I do hope you will stick around, but I understand if you find the channel might not be for you now I no longer talk solely about makeup.

    This is a great video! I wish I would’ve had a better financial example when I was growing up, my parents were totally financially irresponsible.

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  3 года назад

      Thanks Lisa! You know I think you have a good point there. My parents are pretty frugal in many ways and I do think we pick up a lot of habits from parents etc, especially as things like budgeting aren’t taught in school and so on.
      It’s also like you read my mind as on my list of upcoming videos is one in relation to what my parents taught me about money 😂

      A good example to inspire you to do it differently!

    It’s really important to trace or track down where your money goes...for my experience was that I made saving first deposited to the bank ...the rest money after saving is the money I spent in budgeted way.

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  3 года назад +4

      Agreed. Yes I have savings on automatic transfer as soon as I’m paid each month, it’s a concept often called ‘pay yourself first’ and it certainly works 😊

    lol this video is so good. I really love all your videos! These are so helpful! Oof I love mistake number 4. It's so true that just deciding what you want to save as a goal is going to make a difference. I so often say "this year I am going to save more." But it's not an actual number. Also your earrings are FABULOUS!

    • @KirstyKirby

      You know you aren’t the first person to comment on those earrings. They are a few years old and were really inexpensive!

    Nice video! Oh I shudder at the money I wasted when I was in my 20s. Thankfully I straightened out but I burned through a lot for sure. It would have been a nice addition to my retirement or down payment on a house! Oh well, at least I learned from it.

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  3 года назад +2

      Absolutely! In a weird way I sort of think I learnt from it and will guide my shopping and saving habits and therefore it’s not a bad thing, but given I’m want to buy a house right now and the prices are skyrocketing I would definitely have appreciated the extra savings for sure! Xx

      @@KirstyKirby Good luck with the house shopping! I am kind of looking too and they are pricey. If I was smarter with money when I was young I could have bought long ago! Oh well.

      @@taramisu9978 It is absolutely MENTAL in the housing market right now, incredibly frothy. To be honest, its gotten so nuts that it doesn't feel right at all. I'm trying to keep my head a little and am backing away from houses that keep going to sealed bids. I did it a few times last year and people lose their heads and the winning bids seem to be insanely over asking. I'm sure I will find something soon - good luck with it too! xx

      Fingers crossed! 🤞 A lot of the papers are starting to describe the current market as a bubble so being sensible isn’t a bad approach even if it means having to wait a bit longer than I’d like

      Money spent on genuine fun is not always a waste 😉 I just wish I’d had the same fun and not bought so many new clothes to do it in - I doubt anyone would have even noticed.

    Thank you for this. I’m a new subscriber. I’m 29 going on 30 in a few weeks. I have a couple of grand in debt and no savings. I want to buy the flat I’m renting.
    I’ve just gone full time at work and become a supervisor with my own team under me and I’m teaching myself finances as my parents never have.
    It’s great to have these lessons while I’m a bit younger so by the time I get to 35 when you started taking it more seriously, i’m more ahead. I’m hoping to retire by 60. I’m not having kids though which I think will also help.

    • @KirstyKirby

      Happy future birthday!
      I’m child free and at this point will likely stay that way and I do think it’s helped me financially as there’s no way I could have afforded my house if I had little ones to look after.
      I think getting out of debt and being able to retire by 60 are awesome goals.

      I think it depends what part of the NHS Sarah. I actually work with many people in the NHS who earn considerably more than I do - many more than double. I really do not earn reams of money at all. I am just incredibly frugal.

      @@KirstyKirby I think you are wonderful. I thought spending on looking good would be a bonus but wasted. Now 55 I would rather be secure and lots of savings. I do have them. A recession coming. A couple of years being frugal for so much security great feeling. Holidays can come later x

    My biggest mistake was not clearing my credit card at the end of the month and when I went to America, I took $400 cash out and it amounted to nearly £700 due to the horrific exchange rate 😱 I could only afford £30 a month which was barely covering interest. I eventually paid it off, two years later. I vowed never again. I also stopped silly purchases like £45 on a Benefit Roller Lash mascara. It did nothing for me. That is my biggest purchase regret to date! 😆

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  2 года назад +1

      Oh wowzers that must have been a hard lesson. I generally avoid credit, although they often offer great insurance on purchases as standard, but as you say it’s so important to clear the balance as swiftly as possible. Makeup that does nothing for me are always purchases that hurt me lol. I wish we could return it like in the US. I’ve started being less likely to experiment with makeup. I will stick with one or two foundations and that’s it now, and go for the cult classic products. I got so sick of wasting money on ‘life changing’ products that turned out to be rubbish.

    Young should save monthly for retirement even if tiny amounts. Past 55 one gets so tired to work full-time so cutting back on work then if a good pension will help. I wish someone had to ld me then
