Love the little AC winches. Have one powering a small platform lift between the floor of my shop and the storage space above it. Would never dream of storing heavy stuff up there without it.
thanks for the details, you are good ...without people like you, we would be in the dark many a times....wishing you continued success in the big dig Dave, from Ottawa Ontario
Very well done video. Thanks for the shout out in the notes. If anyone wants to understand how a DPDT switch works, that should help. I suspect most folks just want to know how to hook it up. I do have one question though: Why not rent a mini excavator for a weekend and have it all done lol. Looks like a ton of work. The result should be amazing. I would definitely want a sump in the bottom in case water ever found its way in.
Can't get a mini ex inside the door and making the swing would be a problem. Worse part is they don't go down 8ft. I angered the soil pretty deep so the digging is pretty easy.... (For now!🤣) I'm on the hunt now for a cultivator I can dump in the hole and run back in forth to loosen up the floor, then its back on easy street I go! Thanks for stopping by and the great idea with the hoist, it will make my life a lot easier. And if I lasts until the end of the job, I got my money's worth. Yes the 20% duty cycle sucks, but I can only dig so fast.
@@jagboy69 Yeah, those lifts don't like to run long at a time for sure. Have you thought about dropping a rotor tiller down there? You might be able to get a small one on Marketplace. Another thought is to rent a ditch witch for a few hours and dig it as deep as it will go. Worst case, get one of those drill attachments for plants bulbs lol.
@@joefishengineer1 I've got a little mantis tiller with a Honda motor, but it's like hanging onto the back legs of a passed off texas jack rabbit. It does dig, but not fast enough for me. Did ya take your photo? Go back to the way it was originally, try it, then do it again. Put a VOM on your down on the remote box and see if you get any power there. It might be the remote board.
@@jagboy69 Mine is a 'Giant' brand and is rated to 1000lbs. I have mine mounted on a gantry crane that is 10ft off the ground so anything you lift is directly above you with the original controls. I personally don't want to be under the suspended load of a China winch!
Thanks. Yes you could, but what's the chance the Motors turn at the same rate? Slim and none is what I think. Even mine slows down when I have a heavy load on it. Thanks for watching! Stick around, I've got a video coming out real soon where I give the hoist a real workout!
Work has had me swamped the last few weeks and I am making a big change to the construction technique. The pipe has been relocated and about 50% of the hole is down at over 5ft. Digging is going easier than I expected. I'll be back in the hole this week and will see if I can get a video update out. Happy New year bud!

Can you make a video or pic of how the capacitor is connected at the hoist box please? I have the model where the capacitor is in the remote and I'd like to move it. Thank you!
Sorry, I don't have any photos or videos inside that thing. I would think you should just be able to trace the wires from the controller to the hoist. Then shorten and reconnect it in its new home.
@@Pawcu4ever lol... Down the ol pant leg in the prison yard! Well, the concrete got scattered around various dumpsters in town and I have several neighbors that are taking the dirt. Question - Is the whole reason for using the contactors because the remote control is not rated for enough amperage? The reason I ask is I saw another video where the contactors were not added. Also, my harbor freight hoist has an e-stop button. Can I assume this unit will not use that function?
I broke ground the 2nd week of September. I had been kicking around this idea for almost a year and commissioned the lift build around January I suppose... It took a few months for that part. Ya see, originally I was going to build the lift until I saw how bad the price of steel went up. The Chinese were able to build and ship it much cheaper than I could. To my surprise, they actually did a great job on the lift, it's very well built and it's not made of tin foil and cat turds.👍🤪
OK I have a question. I don't have this exact hoist but one very similar. There is another video showing making harbor freight hoist remote wireless. They just use the same wireless unit you use but without the Carrier HVAC Motor Contactor. I can't get mine to work so I am wondering in I need those. Any idea why some need them and some don't? Thank you
It would help first to know what you are dealing with. A contactor is a switch designed to do the heavy lifting connecting power to something. That big switch can be controlled with a small wire. That small wire is doing its job through the remote. I don't know how someone else wired their setup, but mine works great using contactors. This crappy little Chinese remote will NEVER be able to switch this kind of electrical load. If it can, it won't do it for very long before letting out the smoke.😮
Bit more work and you can actually get the 115VAC supply out of that original yellow switch, looks like all they do is use one side to energise the motor and the other to decide which side of the capacitor to apply power to. So that centre tap will have 115VAC all the time, even with the winch cable all the way up, which just disconnects the one side of the motor. Smaller contactors still rated for 30A are available, and also similar remotes with 2 buttons, so you have to press and hold to run the winch. Just remember duty cycle of that motor, the CCA wire in it will get hot after being run for around 20 minutes of down and up, and you do not want to rely on a thermal shutoff made by the cheapest supplier they could find. Quick way to need to go claim on the Horror Fraught warranty of "it went bang", and all the smoke came out.
The good thing with these, if it craps out, ya go get another and play swap the box. Good suggestions, but as you can see, I'm literally up to my neck in work.😂 Thanks for watching!
Is yours still working properly? I wired mine up exactly like yours but added an upper and lower limit switch too. I am now on my 3rd white box with remotes it keeps burning out after a few weeks of use…
Yup. Mine is doing fine. No limit switches. When I shut down for the day, I usually unplug it. Wise man once said, Trust no cheap Chinese electrical products.
@@jagboy69 thanks for the reply I appreciate it. I built an elevator for my grandparents to get from their car in the garage up to their house above it. Works great when it works but these boxes keep failing. I really would like to find one of good quality but having a hard time.
@@Kitch940 Slick idea to help out the grand parents! I wonder if your contractors are staying electrified and cooking the cheap white box. Your limit switches need to be removing power from the terminals on the sides of your contactors after they take it up or down.
