Edit: I am sincerely sorry I missed the part of putting the price of these sticks up. The price for one is around $110 USD when on sale and not including shipping. The normal cost is $165 USD when not on sale. I've been meaning to get this review out for some time now, but here it is! If you have any questions let me know! Check out WinWing's products here @ winwingsim.com/view/
I like Winwing products. I use the Orion 2 f15ex HOTAS, f16ex stick, and Skywalker rudder pedals. I'm impressed with the quality; It's a good alternative to VIRPL. It has nice tactile buttons and switches, high-quality sensors, and an amazing feel, being all aluminum cast. With the EX stick and throttle, I have more buttons available than I need for Star Citizen bindings. I never have to take my hand off the controls, except to type in chat. I can imagine these sticks would be a great alternative upgrade to VKB for those with the HOSAS T16000 setup looking for something in a mid-tier budget range. If you've got the money though, splurge and get an Orion 2. You won't regret it. Winwing currently has a huge holiday sale going on. You can get some products at deep discounts.
They definitely have some great products for sure. These are my first introduction to Winwing and they're honestly a really solid option for anyone looking for an entry-level setup.
If you have another low price option already like the T16000 - Get this WinWing Ursa Minor/Space Flight and it will absolutely SHOCK you how much better it is by comparison. I upgraded to VKB and then got a WinWIng for my left hand stick when my 2nd T16000 started getting ghost inputs within 3 months like the 1st one i bought did. 100% worth every penny. Solid construction, buttons are solid and plentiful. VKB is superior but if price is an issue you are not sacrificing much with the WinWing option. You will literally throw those Thrustmasters out of the window after finishing your 1st PVE test bounty. The difference in precision cant be put into words.
Absolutely agree! Winwing is substantially better than the t16000's by far and you honestly can't go wrong whether it's choosing the lower priced Winwing Ursa Minors or the more refined and premium VKB NXT Evos.
I've been using using the T16000M for about 5 years now and thanks to this video I'll likely upgrade to the Ursa Minor when my current stick dies. Thanks for the great review.
Thank you for this! Not quite yet in the market to replace my dying T16000, so was seriously considering something in the $2-300. I have their Orion 2 throttle with the F-18 handle and I was quite impressed with the build quality and overall feel of it, so naturally I was considering their joystick to compliment. Since I'm putting in more work on the joystick side I think I'll go with the VKB option, but I was sorely tempted by the price range. Subbed!
Appreciate the sub! Glad you enjoyed the review. And I honestly think regardless of the choice you make, they're both great. WW has a lot more buttons, but the VKB's are just a little bit more refined from my experience. Either way, you really can't go wrong and I totally recommend both depending on the budget you have.
Which they are not, they are as good as VKBs from a couple of generations before. Though the gimbal system is great and looks like it is a 1:1 clone from VKB. Sooo... seems like a good option anyway for entry level sticks. I still would rather have VKBs for the GNX Modules and extensions even when on a budget.
I have been looking for a “budget friendly” pair of sticks for a while for Star Citizen, your review on these just shot them to the top of my list. Would absolutely love to get a VKB setup but they are just to expensive for a disability budget unfortunately 😢, so thanks for this review!
try a ps5 controller. cheap and highly effective. Top devs use controllers, not joysticks because they expressly said they dont want joysticks to be a required purchase.
@ a controller works okay just not enough buttons for all the keybinds for sc and sticks feel more comfortable or natural to me. Though a controller works great for ground fps gameplay.
really am considering this, currently use a HOTAS Warthog base hornet stick and x-56 throttle HATE this throttle, miss my hosas baaaad and if I even just picked up the left stick it might put me in a good spot. This was a great suggestion thanks.
as someone that had a t16000m to this i cant recommend enough for the price it fantastic, i myself find the hat's to be fine they have "captures" in the stick to guide the hat into the right spot ect ect, the haptic feedback is great and as for the dampener not being strong enough to work as a throttle, i do find this to be wrong as i have use it in this manor and it worked fine an held its position (if you do the dampener tight enough it should be fine). do believe they will be making extra sticks to go with the base in the future so thats something to think about as well
I have thrust masters right now, and even just having a HOSAS setup is a game changer. Would you say the damper on the win wig is similar to the thrust masters? I use left stick for throttle and strafe so I don't know if I should just shoot for the vkb due to the damper issue on the winwing.
I have the Right VKB Gladiator Evo as my primary flight stick and LOVE IT. I Was Waitng for the VKB STECS throttle to release and didnt like the options i had for assignning an axis for strafing if i want to slide the ship up / down / left / right --- so i decided ill get the angled VKB bacause its twist up / down and push left / right Would give me much better control. 2 days before i was to order the Left hand / angled VKB i saw the WinWing Ursa Minor Spaceflight was x months away from release. Obviously the VKB will be higher quality but the 14 buttons on the base is what sold me vs the 3 buttons on my VKB so i would get the best of both worlds. I have been using the WinWing Ursa for about 3 months or so and i could not be happier. I removed the spring and tightened the clutch so my left stick functions as a slide throttle and my Strafing movements
Cancel the order and just get the VKB, those base buttons and extra stick buttons do not make up for the clutch issue described. Not having to rely and turning cruise control on/off is a game changer in reaction times to things that may happen when things happen. If it wasn't for that fact I'd strongly suggest it over a VKB for price reasons, because the odd base size and button layout isn't as bad for secondary configuration bindings. But yeah the clutch is something they need to change.
@@asymsolutions Cruise control? - ive never used that function in the 2-1/2 years ive been playing SC. My clutch is rock solid on the winwing. I wouldnt replace my VKB in the right hand - but for left stick the winwing has been rock solid
Good solid review....They look good but as you said that throttle moves on its own makes it a deal breaker I just love the VKB stays put. But some may find that ok with the lower price. Again they do look solid... Thanks for your opinion which matters
Glad you enjoyed the review! I definitely recommend them if someone is really wants to keep costs low or wants an entry level stick. And perhaps Winwing can resolve that issue in the future, unless they're specific to mine.
I just use the grip axis on the throttle for star citizen you don't need a dampned throttle in star citizen anyways. Is it worth double the price to get a VKB + added shipping>? definitely not.
I bet. I haven't used their more premium options; but I'm definitely willing to check them out. I thought the Ursa Minors were great, just the issue with the damper was the only thing that detracted from them.
@@Hav0k it's not as natural, but couldn't you just use the throttle slider on the base for throttle? Someone also mentioned a grip rotation? Although it seems that wouldn't be a set and hold situation... This is my first go around for both a flight and space sim set up. Torn between the VKB and Winwing option. Seems VKB also comes with more mount options if you wanted to build a dedicated chair/desk setup.
I could. But the forward/backwards movement is much more natural. Plus this stick isn't the only one I have as I also have VKB sticks that I feel do much better overall. If you're willing to spend a bit more, I feel VKB offers better performance and accuracy
@@Hav0k yea, I appreciate the reviews though. I actually ordered one as I have been mulling for some time. but could never push the 200 for one stick. but 115 is doable.
Honest question. For me its over $100 difference in price between VKB and Winwing omni-throttles. If I don't plan on removing the y axis spring, would you recommend I just go with the winwing and save money? I just got the figher and couldnt be happier with it. Have never tried a VKB though.
I have to be pretty honest when talking about this, cause I feel pretty strongly about it. Winwing is a really good starting option that has a lot of buttons and really awesome features. But the extra $100 for VKB really is worth every penny. The dampers are stronger and it just feels more refined. Ultimately, regardless of the option, you can't go wrong. Either way you'll be happy.
VKB is the better choice. The extra cost is more than made up for by the customization options for buttons and hat switches, better tuning capability, and expansion. One thing you did not touch on is the available breakout boxes you can get that attach to the sides of the VKB sticks adding extra throttles, switches, knobs and buttons. Handy if you play DCS or MSFS. And for SC when you want extra controls for controlling mining, salvage, and other ship operations. VKB is pretty future proof.
This is true. There's a ton of customization with VKB, but winwing has a ton of products as well and the review wasn't about the VKB primarily. But I did cover a review of the VKB earlier on in the year.
There's a lot of newer joysticks missing in SC. All you have to do is just go into the key bindings and configure everything yourself. Luckily, it's very easy to set it up and configure.
10s in, Spoilers, it can not, but it can be still pretty good as shown by the VKB Gladiator series, which uses an identical gimbal design since almost a decade, but offers much more options for expansion and is in general also an dream for maintenance, repair and modularity. Still, great to have this budget one on the market, shame about the dampeners, as omni throttle those 14 buttons on the base would have shined as really useful additions. I do wonder if you can do something about that. Great review overall, could have mentioned that like 14 of the buttons are on the base, which makes them usually partial "unreachable" without letting go of the grip itself. Especially for your mainhand grip you rarely if ever let go off it. The throttle hand is usually more free press those buttons and should have been able at least reach 21 of those buttons easily. Sure, a VKB Button Box comes with even more than just 21 Buttons and two axis, but you know, VKB charges almost 100€ extra for their button boxes and a Gladiator base as only 3 buttons, a 3 position switch and one of those really useful encoders on it. Which might useful for other reasons and all of them are at least easy enough to reach with your throttle hand. but that's still like 5 easy to reach functions less than WingWing offers ... but overall more useful imho, especially as the damping is good enough to actually let go of the throttle in the first place. Guess the STECS max made me an encoder lover.
WOW, really cant beat the price for what you get and yes I agree with all your negative points. I have the VKB and for a second I was feeling down seeing this but yea, I would rather spend the extra and get those negatives of these sticks resolved. Plus it does not look like there is easy upgrades like there is for VKB. Still its a fantastic price point for someone on a budget and a no brainer!
There's definitely a lot more options for upgradability with VKB's. Winwing I think does a great job at reaching the entry level price point and delivering solid performance for the cost.
@@Hav0k I would bet down the road they will start offering some options like VKB does. I know when the Gladiator came out there was no real upgrades for them either.
I just got my fighter stick today. $103 SHIPPED arrived in 4 days US. NGL Ill find it hard to want to give the other big flight sim companies my money after seeing this kind of value. This feels like a $300 dollar stick as someone coming from a T16000 hotas for the last few years.
So as someone who does not have allot of experience with flight sticks I do like the price point of these more advanced setups and have been wanted to try it out instead of using a mouse and keyboard. I notice in this review you see to be using a hotas setup with a Ursa MINOR space joystick and a Ursa Minor fighter Joystick. I have been interested in trying a 6 axis joystick but since Sublight Dynamics may not be available or cost effective would you have any suggestions for someone that might want to start out with a single joystick for Winwing, would you recommend a fighter joystick or a space joystick for Star citizen then maybe later upgrading to full HOTAS later if it works for me? Thank you for any tips and for the video bringing my attention to the offerings of this brand.
I have the WinWing Ursa minor Spaceflight - the angled one as my left hand throttle. My Right hand flight stick is a VKB omni Evo .. The VKB is a better quality stick but i 1,000% say grab the WinWing at that price because it is so far superior to All the 'budget' sticks in its class. If you have a Thrustmaster T16000 for example - i would throw it out of your highest window and grab the WinWing - its impossible to describe the difference in precision, functionality with its assortment of buttons/hats and its Durability. After my 2nd T16000 broke and started to jitter and twitch even when not being touched ..thats when i got the VKB in the first place.
Have you seen this option? This guy claims there is a fix for the throttle to stay in a place. Please let me know because I’m wondering if it’s a quality control issue or if the throttle is going to move on me. Thanks:
I bought the left hand angled Ursa Minor Spaceflight to use as my left throttle. I removed the spring and the documention was lacking - so i tightened 1 of the hex bolts underneath and it seemed pretty good. Still havnt had any issues of it drifting. Then recently - within last 2 weeks i saw a Vid on the stick and decided to check it - and realized Both the hex bolts are for dampening that slide axis, not just the one bolt like i thought.. so i took the cover off and tightened the other side to match.. now its even more rock solid. I was worried about the throttle position drifting when i used other axis in the heat of battle - like twisting to strafe up / down or sliding left or right.. but its been GREAT. 100% recommend.
Yeah I tightened the damper as far as they could go when I first got the sticks. What you're seeing in the video is the stick at the tightest i can go. Perhaps its specific to the stick I received.
Can't find a way to use vibration on star citizen, but it's very good joystick. Did you find a way to using that feature? People should start their journey whit this and not t16000k (it's ok but not so great)
@@Hav0k It's all good, just thought it was funny. $229 for the combo you were using seems almost too good. Free shipping too, but it doesn't say how long it takes to arrive. How do the Ursa sticks return to center feel compared to cheaper sticks? The T16000 try too aggressively to return to center, making movements not very smooth. The VKB sticks from videos I've seen, look like they return to center slow and smoothly.
@@kpatt2006 Honestly, the the spring and damper on the Winwing do really well. Much better than the T16000's ball in socket and spring design. And if you dampen it enough, it will return to center slowly and smoothly. Just depends on the tightness of the damper. VKB's damper is just much stronger in my experience. Otherwise, it's great. And way better than the T16000

After my 2nd T16000 broke and started to jitter and twitch even when not being touched ..thats when i got the VKB in the first place.
i need help for mapping this in star citizen, its not on the List in game. i need map every button for myself?
Yeah since SC hasn't set up new maps for new joysticks, you'll have to set them up yourself.
It's really not that hard and I prefer to go with what works for me than try and learn what someone else does.
Noice! I'm using dual VKBs.
Yeah, I'm back to using them also! Lol
@Hav0k They're hard to beat. The delay between ordering and getting them is a bit longer than usual but they are pretty nice.
thanks for the review, unfortunately in my country it would cost more than half my salary, but thanks

@@hawkzulu5671 Amazing thanks, I will definitely try this with my ursa.
Yeah I tightened the damper as far as they could go when I first got the sticks. What you're seeing in the video is the stick at the tightest i can go. Perhaps its specific to the stick I received.
@@hawkzulu5671 thank you
Can't find a way to use vibration on star citizen, but it's very good joystick.
Did you find a way to using that feature?
People should start their journey whit this and not t16000k (it's ok but not so great)
Nah sadly the haptic feedback doesn't work in SC yet. And I agree. Skip the T16000 and get the Ursa Minor
I can’t believe I watched this whole video and never learned the most important part of the video: the price for these budget sticks 😂
Yeah I touched up on this. Apologies that I missed it in the video
@@Hav0k thanks for the reply. they almost seem too good to be priced how they are! Definitely worth trying for a budget friendly flight sim setup.
VKB Throttle and Winwing Stick? hmmm
It is a nice thing to have, though flying with a gamepad is awesome too and far cheaper.
That's great information you have here friend, but does it *_feel_* cheap, and can it survive the abuse of children that use it when I'm not around?
It doesn't feel cheap and from my experience with it for the last 4 months it'll handle the abuse.
@@Hav0k Excellent! Thank you for the response :)
alert spoiler : Nop.
For a mere $25 difference I'd go with the better VKB option.
I definitely have to agree. However, I did find myself missing the 4 way hat switch on the side of the stick.
It's a $200 difference if you include shipping
