I miss the days when they were called emergency brakes and manual. In fact, I had to use them as brakes on a drive home years ago. When they're manual, you can adjust the pressure to slowly apply the brakes. Worked well.
It has an bring seal if you want to see it there’s a teardown video link that I did WHAT'S INSIDE A REAR ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE CALIPER! LET'S TEAR IT DOWN AND SEE WHAT'S INSIDE! ruclips.net/video/DhlxbRj7DnM/видео.html
is that parking brake installed only on the rear wheels and is that brake 3 pairs of brakes or is it part of the service brake where the hydro fluid comes
Wondering how the parking e-brake is auto undone/reversed when I press accelerator and move forward and don't have to manually un-set the parking e-brake?
There was nothing wrong with the mechanical parking brakes, been in service for many years no problem, I don't trust anything electronic in vehicles, they won't hold-up to mechanical. Car engineers have lost their minds. before I spend 70 to 100k on this JUNK I will go to the Mecum Auction and buy and old truck that's been restored from the ground--up, all mechanical,...............they are real trucks.
MY 2016 Range Rover Sport has this but the communication is not getting to the control when it gets below freezing.. Just happened to me here in Alaska and it did happen once before and, as soon as it got back above freezing, the EPB worked again and I was able to use the brake correctly.. Going to be below freezing for the next week or more.. hahahah.. I am screwed
Oh, an electric motor on two calipers....@&$%$# useless crap to jack up the price of the vehicles. Folks don't buy into stupid engineering to keep raising the price. Does anyone really need a 6-way tailgate?
never understood why people want their tailgate to perform all those functions. I just need mine to open and close and I also do like that stick option to help you get up there but other than that I don’t know why it needs to fold 10 different ways. 😂
Of course they're not electronic, they don't jam a 100k farad electrolytic capacitor in the spokes, or anything like that. they're mechanical and electrically actuated, my guess is they're actively retracted when the car is driven. If the opposite were true they'd drain the battery when the motor isn't running.
Stupid idea----loose a battery and you can' APPLY or RELEASE the EMERGENCY brake!!. One wire breaks and you have no brake to stop a rollaway on a drive way, thats after you have got past the elecgric door lock which won't work ! Cars makers must be brought back down to earth!
Aren’t electric parking brakes cheaper to make? That’s why they are doing it. So I don’t trust them. And we pay more for these quicker and cheaper builds.
I don’t think it’s necessarily cheaper. The old manual parking brakes are still pretty inexpensive and they do use a complicated caliper like these if you have the style that has the cable directly to the caliper instead of a shoe kit. The reason why I like electronic parking brakes is that there isn’t a whole separate parking brake system. It’s all contained within your regular braking system less parts that need to be serviced. The most expensive portion of this I would think is the electronic motor those can go for a couple hundred bucks but overall I do tend to favor electronic parking breaks. They are much better in my opinion
@ I see that. But I assumed going to electric 4 wheel drive and electric parking brakes was a way to avoid the high cost of solid mechanical parts. Guess I was wrong. Thank you.
Electric parking brakes are used to allow the brake applied by the computer. Some of the gm's will slam on the brake when the door is opened and the car is moving. All of it is a pain in the ass for techs. Dead battery, parking brakes on, trans won't come out of park, so how do you get it in the shop or on a flat bed?? More big brother crap is all it is.
This is just unnecessary complication. All because as you say a cable might break or be frozen when someone tries to use it? That's operator error/neglect not another reason to make cars more complicated than they already are. It's a lot easier and cheaper to replace a cable than it is to trace a wiring or electrical fault or replace an ecu. I honestly don't want or have any desire for my car to be computerized and touchscreened to death, nor do I need my car to drive itself or be connected to wifi. That's all just overpriced crap that's going to break and be eye poppingly expensive to fix on a car that you still have 24 months of payments left on your 72 month loan. I honestly dread having to replace my current car thanks to frankly dumb consumers tripping over their credit limits to buy overpriced suv's, cheap simple cars are dead and not coming back. And all this overcomplication of vehicles is so d bags can tap on their phones rather than drive.
I have an opinion on it like you do! They didn’t design this because I said the cables break😂😂😂😂 Up here cables break because of the climate and road conditions that we deal with. Plus people don’t use the parking/E-brake here like they should daily. The electric parking brakes save so many transmissions because they auto apply reducing wear on the drivetrain I like the fact that it does that because sadly people never use the manual parking brakes like they should!
Depends on where you live here in the Midwest with the salt. We have a lot of failures on the parking brakes. After a few years they stopped working, so it really depends on what region you live in.
Mechanical parking brakes don't fail, they rust solid and don't work at all. I like old school stuff a lot, but electric parking brakes are a heck of a good invention.
The more points of failure the more likely it is to fail. Electric/electronic fave more poont ls of failure. If your brakes rust over you are not doing proper maintenance.

Exactly, I hate electronic parking brakes.
Question: how is the shaft sealed to keep brake fluid in?
It has an bring seal if you want to see it there’s a teardown video link that I did

It's only in the rear, and it is part of the regular brake system of the car.
@@TheEnthusiastMechanic thanks
I retired before they were used in widespread models.
Thankfully Kentucky doesn’t have the corrosion problems you have up north.
Del
You are very lucky to not have to deal with the parking brake issues we see in the Midwest!
Wondering how the parking e-brake is auto undone/reversed when I press accelerator and move forward and don't have to manually un-set the parking e-brake?
That is done by the brake computer and the electrical system. They only release the brakes when they are sure the car is moving.

Sounds like the motors aren’t liking the cold

These electric parking brakes are just junk.
It’s usually the motors that give people the most problems, but this hardware is usually pretty sturdy

Its really not an issue. You're like the old fogeys that told people to stick to carburetors because that EFI witchcraft was evil.
The more points of failure the more likely it is to fail. Electric/electronic fave more poont ls of failure.

@bowez9 you sound like the old fogeys who swore up and down that electronic fuel injection is "too complicated" and "going to fail."
