I appreciate the screen shot showing the difference in the design as well as the side by side comparison. Absolutely, positively worth every bit of 7:05 minutes of my time.
SC is all I’ve ever ran on my 261. Just picked up a FC for it though. That SC I was running on my 461 is the only one I’ve ever had on it. Thanks for watching Todd!👍🏻
I love your split screen comparisons 👍🏼 It’s not as accurate as timing each cut, but it gives a better real world idea of the difference in speed. This way is more useful than something like 12.8s vs 13.4s
Hi Rod …. I’ve just ordered me a Semi chisel chain, first time that I will be using one. I have only ever used full chisel all my life. I do believe that full chisel is intended for fresh green wood as opposed to the semi chisel which is for more dirty wood? Apparently it’s easier to sharpen and holds an edge longer while using. Great video, my friend…
Thanks Mike! I run SC on my 261. First SC I’ve ever ran on my 461. Guess I’ve never noticed a difference between the two when sharpening. Maybe it’s just me! Lol! Thanks for watching!👍🏻
great video thank you! shopping for a new bar and chain for my little Redmax gz550 and wasn't sure what type of chain to get. I think it's marginal difference so I'm leaning towards the semi chisel since most of my lawns and jobs require cutting in the "dirt" compared to if I was logging or something.
Great real world comparison. The only real problem with Full chisel is if you touch the dirt with it even 1 time... it's injured... then it will be much slower than the SC until you touch it up. I ran FC for a while, until I decided that it wasn't "better" for the cutting I do. I'll stick with semi chisel... it just stays sharp a lot longer.
Nice demonstration Rod👍🏼. I get mocked for being a SC fanboy🤣 I generally run FC for falling, but SC for bucking. I’m mostly working up seasoned hardwoods and it seems to me I have to file more frequently with FC. That takes time too, so in my way of thinking it’s probably a wash. Either that or it’s just my stubborn Irish heritage get’n the best of me🤣 Anyway, you put together a nice exhibition! Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
I’ve never ran anything but SC on my 261. Buck logs all day long. Always ran FC on my 461. There’s a place and time for both I think. Appreciate your feedback and thanks for watching Tedd!👍🏻
Morning Rod, great video, love the split screen, first time I’ve seen any show and explain the diff in the chains , I learned something, keep up the good work, maybe some other A Hole will be offended next time. You three have a good day
Do both chains file the same?? Or do you need different for each chain?? I do see the difference in cutting speed but just something I dont understand yet.. Like hand filing could not do it to save my life with my 211 but now that i have 461 I am sure I can do it now and be good at it..
They file the same. Buckin Billy Ray has some great videos that can teach you how to hand file. Great up close videos that show you what to look for when hand filing. Thanks for watching Daniel!
@@FirewoodMidwest : buckin is a great channel to watch on filing.. That is where I learned how to do it on the 461.. I did start on my 211 but with teeth so small I couldn't do it till I had a bigger saw to saw what I was doing.. I even had friends show me and I just didn't get it. Till I got the 461 now my friends are suppried at how well I can do it.. Thanks for posting Rod.. I may not understand now but the light bulb is there just waiting for the right "oh that's how it works" moment. LoL😊👍
Thanks for the video, in your opinion does the semi chisel reduce the chance of kickback in a situation where a full chisel may kickback because it's a more aggressive design? I love that your Rotty has his tail.
Do you have any experience or thoughts on.404 SC vs 3/8 SC? I’ve heard that.404 SC is the best for stay-sharp (excluding carbide). We have a 261 with a 32” lightweight bar and full skip square. It’s great for de-limbing/bucking.
@@FirewoodMidwest thank you for the reply. 32” bar is for the reach, not for full cuts. We’ll do very very few full cuts but don’t like going over 80% bar length for a few cuts, for the most part we stay at 60% bar length or less. It’s a real back saver because we don’t need to bend over. I also run 38:1 Saber and 95 octane race gas. But yeah, that’s a lot of bar for a 50cc small bearing saw. In my experience there are not many people, even professionals, who could run a setup like that successfully. We enjoy the channel! Keep it up 👍🏻
It seemed to me when you did the comparison of the 461 to your Husky, the Husky was faster. But was it also a semi chisel chain? Would be nice to see it compared to the full chisel on the 461. I have several Stihl saws ranging from a 193T to a 660 and everything in between. But I'm thinking about a new midrange saw and trying to decide on the Stihl or the Husky.
Yes it was a SC on the 461! I’m a Stihl man myself so I guess I was kinda messing with the Husky guys on that one. Give them the victory, only to hint later that one had a SC!😆 Our next video is gonna be a FC show down of the 461 and 572. Thanks for commenting and appreciate ya watching Jeff!👍🏻
Yep, all personal preference. This was the first SC I’ve ever ran on my 461. Dealer gave me the wrong chain and I didn’t notice till I got home. Figured I’d check it out. SC is about all I run on my 261. Thanks for watching Hunt!👍🏻
@@Aaron_A_Lynch if a new chainsaw operator was worried about kickback, I would advise him to use a stihl green safety chain. If he wants his chain to hold a edge longer use a SC. FC will be faster cutting but dull faster. I have found that when I’m bucking medium sized logs for an extended period of time, I’d rather have a lighter saw(261) with a SC. Let’s say i buck logs all afternoon. At the end of the day I’ve maybe lost a total of 5 or 10 minutes due to using the SC. With a 60cc 4hp saw and 28" bar which chain would you recommend for bucking? SC or FC? Which would cut faster?
