@@cheryldahl9192Hard to believe, (or maybe they were not ready to tell the whole ugly truth) unfortunately it is all true, and worse than anything you have ever heard.. Sorry to burst your bubble. They produced a documentary which ran on The movie Channel extra, through Palcrop productions, directed by, Louise Palanker, entitled "Family Band the Cowsills story", 2011. Billy was still alive at the time, with the five remaining siblings (first person) in interviews, telling all from their homes, different venues on the road of a reunion tour. Their dad was a monster of the first degree. Culminating In the abuse of Susan. "Dad was every kind of abusive, we all have our stories, and Susan has hers." Susan in her own words "My father was emotionally, physically, spiritually, physiologically, abusive!" Then she goes on to relate the stories of him "trying to F-WORD ME since I was born until I was 11!," After he disbanded the band she was home alone, he stumbled in drunk and she had a plane to "end it!" when he came to her room again. "Cat Stevens was on the hifi playing Tea For The Tillerman, I took the needle off, He was doing his thing and I said Dad you need to leave me alone," He started cussing at her (language YT does not allow), So she said " I said F#%^& because he said F#%^&. Get the F#%^& out of my room! He got sober for about 2 minutes 'cause I had never said anything like this to this man, and he hauled off and full on punched me. I Charlie Angels kicked him, he was so drunk it was like a bad wrestling and he couldn't get up. It was just the bomb! I was bleeding, I was a mess but I felt nothing (no pain) endorphins were just raging. And he looked at me and just said, You're not even worth it!" Getting emotional. "Cool get out the door, he crawled out, I put Tea For The Tillerman back on and just revealed in the moment!" 'Family Band the Cowsills story', look up, or don't. It ends with them singing 'I'll be waiting by the river of love' introduced by Shirley Jones on stage wearing a red Pants suit during their reunion tour. I have an eidetic memory, so I'm sorry I ever watched it.

My big sister was a fan, I followed, of course! They are really performing these as they go, the cues that the were NOT pre-recording are evidence. I can see the hard work they put into this. Susan is a tremendous performer at that tender age, precocious and probably the best of all of them with those stale network-written jokes. she lines up her cues and delivers ever time. Even dances! But the way the young ones nail that hard-to sing "Happiness is" song is in itself impressive (the song itself is a damn wreck-who thought to have the youngest kids to sing it?). Simply amazing for child pop-singers. And the boys even nail down some barbershop. They were the real deal. As much as my Sis graduated to David Cassidy, we really missed out on them being the original plan for the partridge family series.

This is Susan's showcase really, she's pretty much carrying it for her brothers who really look uncomfortable with the whole thing. Susan became a talented singer, guitarist and songwriter herself later into her life. I always thought Susan added so much to the band with her presence. Anytime you look at music videos they did at this time, it's Susan dancing that drags you in along with the music (I always find it funny watching Susan just dance her little heart out while her mum is just looks awkward beside her).
For me their best album is Global from the early 90's which is a lost power pop classic.

The Cowsills were to have their own show. They were talking to ABC, when Barbara Cowsill, a shy woman who suffered from severe anxiety all her life, quietly went to ABC and said she just couldn't do it. ABC cast Shirley Jones as their mother in a scripted, but heavily based on reality show. The Cowsills, not knowing that Barbara said no refused. It was about this time, Bud Cowsill disbanded the group. This left Shirley Jones without a series. Fast general "cattle call," quickly written pilot,.....The Partridge Family!!!

Gee it would be nice if they had just let them do their songs instead of interrupting them with all the worthless commentary.

Commentary that is fake like how much the father loved the children when he physically and emotionally abused them

What the hell, 1960's Hollywood? 4:50 this 10 year old girl is having to fend off the advances of a 70 year old man ("you're too old for me" then he snaps his fingers like "Damn, foiled again."). Then at 5:12 they have this little girl in nothing but her underwear and a little coat? You old people are just creepy. How was this considered acceptable?

This was the outfit of the time. Susan Olson (Brady Bunch) same thing. It seems like a common theme back in those days, was an older legend, pairing up with a younger girl. It was more for laughs and cuteness. No perversion vibes at all. There are zero here. I if anything, today's culture is much more whacko. Pointing this out in the first place and giving time links to get undie shots seems way weirder.
