OK, here is what I know, I am from Rhode Island. I know that last time I spoke with Bobby, was around 1994 or so. i know their mom used to work as a Nurse in a Providence RI hospital. I think but do not quote me one of them passed away during the KATRINA HURRICANE, but I am not sure However I have heard this from a few people
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the city of New Orleans. Cowsill, who chose not to evacuate, weathered the storm in an abandoned warehouse.[6] Cowsill survived the storm but was in need of help. He called his sister Susan from a pay phone (Susan also lived in New Orleans with her family but chose to evacuate) and left four voice mail messages saying he was surrounded by looters and people shooting. Susan Cowsill did not receive the messages until September 2.[7] Cowsill was never heard from again.[3] After an extensive search, Cowsill's body was found under a wharf on the Mississippi River on December 28, 2005.[7][8] His body was subsequently identified by comparison to dental records.[4] Cowsill's death was attributed to drowning as a result of the flooding following Hurricane Katrina.
They still use the same style of banter that was fashionable in the 1960s. This is along the lines of the Monkees TV show, and the Beatles in the film A Hard Day's Night. It works when their are kids and teens watching, but this is an adult show. They were acting a bit immature, but they are still great people. It's just a bit over the top isn't it?
Watch or listen to Rufus Weinright..... he acts the same way. Just the way they are meaning a way to seek attention. I feel for each member of this family. Also Rufus who's own father wanted the fame his son received...
They're not saying anything bad about their dad, Bud, but when he banished Billy for smoking a joint he made a horrible mistake as a parent. Billy had so much talent it was scary. Many of Billy's performances are here on youtube, of course
Yes it was sad and mabe they wouldn't have broken up and Bill wouldn't have all the problems that he had. But it's great to see the videos with his other bands and that he continued with his great talent.
Great mysicians outstanding harmonies. John is the drummer for the beach boys. He was friends with brian wilson. He played on their 50th anniversary tour
Paul must be blessed with the Irish gift of the gab; I heard that the Cowsill kids attended Catholic grade school in either Ohio or Rhode Island. Maybe Mrs. Barbara Cowsill was Irish-American?
Apparently John suffers from the ‘Madonna effect’ - lives in England for 6 months and “develops” an English accent Which is funny - my parents moved from Scotland to the US in the 1960s and they _still_ have their original Scottish accents (though when they go home for a visit, everyone tells them they now have American accents)
THe other siblings don't speak like that- very odd. No one is saying anyting about the affected accent and it is NOT a New England manner of speaking either. Originally The Cowsills are from Canton, Ohio! My home town & state. Late 50's early 60's! They moved a lot cause the family was getting larger. Til they moved to Rhode Island! I did hear their Father was something else, they didn't want to say it to Joan!!
revealing, but akward. Joan didn't do basic homework (but they knew this...) it's why the subjects are covered quickly or superficially. Joanie is a well-intentioned klutz. The Cowsills are a family of professionals before their time. Had someone actually been able to explain to them (as children) the nature of 'show biz', they might have paced themselves just a bit. Y'know, instead of accepting gigs at the playboy mansion w/ Heff. How grotesquely inappropriate is THAT? Cowsills are still great. If you don't love them, you're not completely American, or you're just broken. The 'Love American Style' theme song positively rocks. American POP at its' BEST!
Pretty damn honest. What did she expect, drugged out, crying in their beer type of interview? They know what they had and know what they lost. Like a tight family does, take it on the chin but still fight for the greatness they are.
To me they just seem to be excited, and full of energy...which is what U want from TV guests. Joan could have been better prepared tho. Wish the clip included their great singing too.
I love the Cowsills but this was painful to watch. They certainly didn't do themselves any favors with it. I am sure they all could look back and cringe at this. I feel sorry for them, even though they have such a gift. It seems that they are far more at peace today than at this time. Joan asked reasonable questions, but for a family who was used to covering up the bad stuff, this was the norm. I can't fault Joan for what we now know as awful home life and bad business. God Bless all of them and I hope they know just how much people care about them. The people here are trying to protect them by jumping all over Joan.
Interesting. I recently watched a documentary on these guys and the story is quite different now. The kids admit their dad was a brute and spent all their money. I suppose it was due to he being alive then. The one with the long hair has a British accent...odd. They sound fantastic even now...
Check out Dwight Twilley I'm on Fire video on RUclips. John Cowsill is on drums and Susan Cowsill is singing backup vocals. And they are having a good time. I was born and raised in Rhode Island. Back in the 60's the Cowsills were royalty. I'm still a groupie ( I'm 66 )
I met the cowsills in Waukesha Wisconsin. They were very friendly and a lot of fun to talk to ! Joan did not research them well'a casual observer from China would have known that their mother was dead. Also Joan should have asked questions directly to each Cowsill. The concrete was a joke, you know the mafia put concrete on people and dropped them in the river if anyone pissed them off. The fact that the money was mismanaged is painful . I wish them all the best.
Wow!, I wonder what Susan Cowsill is doin these days ? Indian Lake is such a nice tune ! Hope she is ok and doin fine. I sure loved the the way she danced as a little girl. Iiked their music, which I tried to hide from my homies 'cause we were into Motown and Hendrix and stuff. I sure loved the 60's and 70's !
Regarding John's "English" accent, my gut feeling tells me that he is doing an imitation of Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap, who in turn was doing an imitation of Jeff Beck. I think he thought(!) he was being funny.
Barbara lost her battle with emphysema in 1985.. Hurricane Katrina took away Barry in 2005.... And Billy went to join his mom(Barbara) and brother(Barry) in Rock-N-Roll Heaven, after he succumbed to emphysema. Their dad/manager, "Bud " Cowsill crossed over in 1992, following his bout with illness. I remember The Cowsills and their music back in the 60's, with their tight harmonies and groovy sound. They rock!!!! :)
Just watched their 2013 documentary and am wondering why they all had to lie about their dad on this interview. They should have told her that question was off limits if they didn't want to admit to his abuse. They look foolish denying his abuse after seeing them admit to it.
@nielset - - I have The Blue Shadow's RUclips videos stored as a favorite playlist. I love their music. Too bad I learned about them 15 years too late to see them perform live. I find this interview very sad, now that the world knows the truth about their upbringing. Love the Cowsills, and will always be a loyal fan.
@Samuel Gazzo Belated agreement.
Due to horrible father.
This is sad. They're all over the place trying not to answer questions and reveal or face the truths about their lives
@@gmar7836 and they say Joe Jackson to the Jackson 5 and Murry Wilson to The Beach Boys were bad!!!
This interview is all over the place.
Bud (dad) was obviously still alive during this ancient broadcast because Susan went on to say her dad tried to 'fuck her' every day of her life. Those are HER words from the documentary.
The Cowsills siblings were left broke, broken and in debt. Their parents were very abusive, negligent and/or neglectful.
If only we knew what really goes on behind those beautiful houses and picket fences we seem to envy.
Oh, that's probably because dad was part of the military pedo cabal that had a hand in the creation of rock and roll. Read Dave McGowan....apparently he missed covering the Cowsills. Oh, and what's with the David Crosby reference. Crosby was a rock n roll gate keeping Nazi pedo. A satanic pedo. Hmmm.
The mom's sisters said he took a run at every one of them plus HIS MOTHER IN LAW!! Sicko -- I hope Susan was exaggerating but I doubt she was
is this 2009 cowsills. I love these kids since 1969/70 when I first saw and heard them live. Bless 'em all!
No way this is early 90s
I love John's accent! I always thought he and Barry were the cutest and funniest ones in the group!
There's a much longer interview with Paul Cowsill on You Tube. He tells a much different story about the family and their parents.
Im shocked at this.....even as adults there Dad ran the show...on Showtime after the Dad passed away they said a complete different story and described the Dad as a cold heartless jerk that blew there money
I know, very odd. No one is saying anyting about the affected accent and it is NOT a New England manner of speaking either. Maybe it is a way of disntancing one's self? ?????? I thought they said the parents were horrid???? Here they are saying, 'no'????? Joan asks if the 'father ruled the roost', Susan says an emphatic "NO"...Then, Susan says they love their dad and she doesn't know what the the heck is going on about that ???What the heck? If he was really like that, why not say it when the man ( and the wife) is a alive to respond, not after they are both deceased and no one can defend hiimself and herself, respectively. @KB-ut5xh
Remember, their father was still alive when this interview happened. After he died, well, the truth was told.
In the documentary, Susan finally told the truth about that monster. Everything you might suspect.
It was sad to watch this. After the death of their dad, they let him have it, but good, and told horible stories of abuse on Enetrtainemnt Tonite, in 2005.
I, am amazed at how the Cowsills lied through their teeth during this interview. They've since acknowledged that their father was an abusive monster.
Scott J
Yup.
It's amazing how some folks might be hesitant about crapping on their own.......
+babalooey100 no he threatened them I'm sure
+babalooey100 Sorry, but while I certainly wouldn't be eager to volunteer the information, I don't think I could just lie like that. If you haven't seen the documentary, "Family Band", see it.
Scott Furtado yeah that's what I thought
They mentioned he was still alive at the time. Libel laws.

Barry .
Thank you for the information !!!
Love these guys !
Sean They weren’t given the opportunity to develop normally. They seem socially inept, immature and broken, very sad.
This was taped in 1991. Bud Cowsill died in 1992.
Yes it was sad and mabe they wouldn't have broken up and Bill wouldn't have all the problems that he had. But it's great to see the videos with his other bands and that he continued with his great talent.
aun sueño a mis 70 años al escucharlos musica maravillosa de chle saludos
this is the craziest interview
Great mysicians outstanding harmonies. John is the drummer for the beach boys. He was friends with brian wilson. He played on their 50th anniversary tour
I don't know why they even bothered to have the family there, Paul wouldn't shut up long enough to let anyone else talk!
Oh chill the fuck up. Paul was just exited.
Paul must be blessed with the Irish gift of the gab; I heard that the Cowsill kids attended Catholic grade school in either Ohio or Rhode Island. Maybe Mrs. Barbara Cowsill was Irish-American?
Ha ha John pushed him back so he could talk
love how they all just fight to be heard, to get a word in edgewise! more a family than a band.
Apparently John suffers from the ‘Madonna effect’ - lives in England for 6 months and “develops” an English accent
Which is funny - my parents moved from Scotland to the US in the 1960s and they _still_ have their original Scottish accents (though when they go home for a visit, everyone tells them they now have American accents)
My Gram came to the US in 1904 from Paisley and never lost her Scottish accent.
It's a Rhode Island accent
@@TubeHeiress my parents were from Paisley as well!
Only Susan was born in Canton.
revealing, but akward. Joan didn't do basic homework (but they knew this...) it's why
the subjects are covered quickly or superficially. Joanie is a well-intentioned klutz.
The Cowsills are a family of professionals before their time. Had someone actually
been able to explain to them (as children) the nature of 'show biz', they might have paced themselves just a bit. Y'know, instead of accepting gigs at the playboy
mansion w/ Heff. How grotesquely inappropriate is THAT? Cowsills are still great.
If you don't love them, you're not completely American, or you're just broken. The
'Love American Style' theme song positively rocks. American POP at its' BEST!
say asshole that would be better
I believe being a Viet Nam era veteran and a native son means I'm completely American........but I ain't no square.
Pretty damn honest. What did she expect, drugged out, crying in their beer type of interview? They know what they had and know what they lost. Like a tight family does, take it on the chin but still fight for the greatness they are.
This group will self destruct in 20 seconds.
I thought this was mad TV for a second whoa
Their so interesting and funny, love it!
To me they just seem to be excited, and full of energy...which is what U want from TV guests.
Joan could have been better prepared tho.
Wish the clip included their great singing too.
If you watch their doc they tell a very different story about their dad.
If they ever come to Houston, I "d would like to see them. I hope I get that chance.
They are all a part of American and maybe even world culture and they can always be proud of that.
Susan... is so beautiful.
Stay away, I like her too.
@@dennis9707 The overbite is *so* sexy, but that was then.
Love her dancing!
Her overall persona.
Yes she is... and a beautiful voice to go alone with the rest.
Watch their documentary - it's totally different and lots more organized than this mess of an interview. What's with John and the British accent? Gag.
Cynthia Earl agreed...he sounds stupid
It's because John is stupid...lol.
That’s a British accent? Noooooo. It isn’t.
@@iVenge it's not even an English accent. "Dorg"!? :-)
hazy33 Exactly. And given all of the varieties one might attempt from Torquay to Sunderland, that’s really saying something.
Awww, I LOVE them!
John did but I heard they all do to imitate the Beatles.Their favorite band and mine too.
Still touring with The Happy Together Tour!
Susan is so adorable!
Some of them are hyper and a little bit manic! Wild interview everyone talking at once! I love their music. 🎸✌️😎
Regarding John's "English" accent, my gut feeling tells me that he is doing an imitation of Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap, who in turn was doing an imitation of Jeff Beck. I think he thought(!) he was being funny.
"The Rain, The Park, & Other Things" is so innocent it reminds me of my childhood before I became a little perve!
Would have been much more interesting if they hadn’t all spoken over each other in an attempt to be the funny one
It's hard to follow because of that.
They're trying not to answer the questions
Barbara lost her battle with emphysema in 1985..
Hurricane Katrina took away Barry in 2005....
And Billy went to join his mom(Barbara)
and brother(Barry) in Rock-N-Roll Heaven,
after he succumbed to emphysema.
Their dad/manager, "Bud " Cowsill
crossed over in 1992, following his bout with illness.
I remember The Cowsills and their music
back in the 60's, with their tight harmonies
and groovy sound.
They rock!!!! :)
Billy Angus
Oh Wow I am sorry to hear this. SIP
Check out the Blue Shadows. Billy's band in the mid 90s. Amazing
Bob's twin brother Richard who wasn't in the band, died July 8, 2014 of lung cancer.
Joan lost control of the interview.
that's easy to do with The Cowsills. i've seen many an interview and the all seem to go the same route.
The Cowsill interviews are a virtual shit storm! Everyone talking at the same time, totally disorganized; no wonder they're broke.
Joan was wonderful as a person but as you said this was poor.
@@wizard9403 nasty bastard fuck off
Why did they stick up for the dad so much here? Was it because he was still alive? The story now is just the opposite in there documentary.
This interview is all over the place. everyone interupting and talking over each other
Speed? Meth? Mk ultra?
Just watched their 2013 documentary and am wondering why they all had to lie about their dad on this interview. They should have told her that question was off limits if they didn't want to admit to his abuse. They look foolish denying his abuse after seeing them admit to it.
I love Joan Rivers - she left this earth too soon.
I had a crush on Susan. She was so cute.
@fordude60 I was a guest on Joan Rivers' TV show and she was fantastic, slick as a whistle, quick witted and smart.
Their take on their dad and the reported abuse so prevalent in print is rather interesting at best!
Interesting as time went on Susan changed her story of her Dad.
They all did, some of them changed story of mom too
What's with the British accent John Cowsill is affecting in this interview? He's a kid from Rhode Island!
John became Mr. Vicki Peterson!
They sure are a hyper-active bunch!
Yeah, that's it. They're hyper active. Not stoned.
Wow, one of the Cowsills was British!!
@nielset - - I have The Blue Shadow's RUclips videos stored as a favorite playlist. I love their music. Too bad I learned about them 15 years too late to see them perform live. They would have been worth a trip up to Vancouver. Also, although I did know that Billy had some personal problems, I didn't realize he was to blame for the breakup of The Blue Shadows. How very sad.
We miss you Joan.
John "Free Food" the year I met you ,the night before at avelon
I was in Love with Susan in 67❤️🌹🫠
I just saw her for the first time on the Flower Power Cruise this week & immediately fell in love! ❤
John is so silly in this...well, they all are, but John's in his own world!!
Joan didnt even know their mother had passed away! Or did I hear it wrong? Terrible prep work!
Just part of a very sad interview. But they're on TV.
Joan was a knucklehead
"Oh. So, she's not singing with you today?"
Um, yeah, no. Only if you have a Ouiji board. She died.
Joan wasn't very sharp on her prep.
I enjoyed watching Dick Rutan punk her regarding the 'eliminatory function' on the Rutan Voyager flight.
Susan looks like she wants to poke Joan's eyes out, and Joan doesn't have the first clue as to how condescending she sounds.
Condescending is what Joan was all about.
Why is John speaking with a British accent?
He still does it up to this day... just for fun I guess
They're Crazy! I LOVE Them!
Dang the way they just talk all over themselves.
