Looking forward to 20 years later when David Tennant is in his 70s to return again as The Doctor.
It's his indiana jones. Man's is gonna cone back when he's 60, 70, 80, 90, and when he's gone they're still gonna be calling his agent asking him if he wants to do another anniversary episode, since that's how he apparently appears.
@FinniganHealey IIRC, he kept his specific doctor jacket and made it clear he'd love to be he doctor again and he's just a phonecall away.
This better actually happen. Ill be waiting
“I know these dentures…”
Please don't let it be that long. He must keep coming back.
I read a very cool interpretation that 15 is kinda like the next regeneration, but from a bit further down the Doctors timeline, not from that moment. The line "I'm fine because you fix yourself", seems to imply this: 15 is the next regeneration, but from a time AFTER 14 has already lived a long life with Donna and sorted himself and all his personal baggage out. Hence why he seems so much more happy and full of life than many of the more recent regenerations
Interesting. I was wondering about that
This was the conclusion I immediately came to after watching it. The doctor definitely still needs to keep doing his thing. The fact that he's facing down the toy maker, a reality warper, only proves that. So he has come back his own timestream to regenerate after he has dealt with his trauma. Only he's doing it before he's dealt with his trauma. So he's him after he's dealt with his trauma coming around now so he can deal with the now things he wouldn't be able to handle if he was still suffering.
it would also explain why 15 doesn’t know what’s going on, because this could have been months or even years ago for him
So his regeneration, traveled back in time to before when he is who the doctor regenerated into?
Wow that is difficult to reread what the heck-
Nah that was the 5th. Ish
Man Tennant really took Michael Sheen’s statement of him not being the doctor SUPER seriously
He really did. Guess David can always say he is the Doctor.
David & Michael should make a follow up sketch
Michael Sheen claimed that being in the Twilight movies was better than being the Doctor. I'd take that seriously too.
Michael Sheen has to play The Master at some point to a Tennant Doctor. Or the reverse. Or both at the same time..?
@@thefilmmusicaficionado7937 this would be hilarious just Michael asking if david knew when he said that
I love the little detail of his "last words". Last time he said "I don't want to go" but this time he said "Let's go". He was ready this time. He wasn't alone.
Since 14 was announced, Who fans have saying he needed to have a positive bookend of 10's last words. I always agreed but felt "I'm ready to go now" or anything like that would feel *super* clunky and forced. I can't believe I didn't consider "Allons-y" as a possibility, it fits so _perfectly_ it almost hurts.
@@artyb2710 didn’t need what they did in this episode. It makes it seem as if 10 was the greatest incarnation of the Doctor. Which I beg to differ. 10 was one of the shortest incarnations only lasting for 5 years and whining all the time in the end of time about dying and “living too long”.
@@tgiacin435Short? He did 3 seasons right? Just like most modern Doctors…. Apart from Eccelston. Then the David Tennant specials too. And I don’t see how quantity matters for the quality.

VWOT?
“It’s your game. And you did this. *Toymaker can’t work out an argument against it, 14’s voice takes on a hint of “haha haha” * you doubled us”
Wonder if it was originally in the script for it to be stated explicitly that the reason the bi-generation (there’s no such thing…a myth) happened at all, was solely because of the Toymaker’s reality bending influence.
He literally was the author of his own downfall.

This was such an incredible surprise to watch. Regenerations are usually so sad and tragic and I was so upset watching David Tennant's doctor start to regenerate AGAIN but then this happened and my jaw dropped. It went from sad to joyful so quick!
I just adore it! Because for years now the doctor has been running without taking the time to heal from his many many traumas and it was showing. I wanted him to rest and heal but obviously didn't want the show to end either. So this way with 14 getting to retire and heal with Donna and Mel and the friends he loved when he had this face leave 15 free for a refresh of sorts. I look at him as being further down the regeneration cycle in a way. Like he comes after 14 but because 14 presumably spends years "in rehab" and heals from all his past traumas, even though 15 regenerates now he has already undergone that healing. So he's so much lighter and happier.
Plus we get another bonus David Tennant doctor running around in the universe while still getting to experience a new actor taking on the role. Its literally having your cake and eating it too!

Ncuti Gatwa is already fitting into the role of the doctor like he was born to do it. David Tennant gets to give his Doctor the happy ending he always deserved. Neil Patrick Harris killed it as the Toy Maker. This a fantastic celebration of 60 years of the Doctor and sets up for many more years.
The Tennant version can and will be wheeled out again make no mistake. Theyve made it so they bring out multiple doctors and chop and change the show as they see fit. The whole show has been hijacked by self righteous, right on idiots ffs.
I feel as though the 60th has been a bit of a waste and whilst it's been good to see David Tennant again as well as Catherine Tate and Bernard Cribbins (also I didn't like the audio clip that they used of his voice in this episode because the editing was quite crap) and yes Neil Patrick Harris was excellent as the Celestial Toymaker I feel as though these episodes didn't feel different to the regular episodes that we get in a regular series and it wasn't as special as the 50th and the regeneration just doesn't feel as impactful or as special anymore because now the Doctor can just be divided into two and so there's no peril or sadness anymore because we know that one version of the Doctor is just living a normal life on a different planet.
@@haj2132 The doctor only split in two because of The Toymaker wreaking havoc upon reality, that was succinctly explained near the end when they did the same with the Tardis before the laws of physics fully reasserted themselves. Remember, the Toymaker is an incredibly powerful reality warper that can go toe to toe with both timelords and gods and win (if luck favors him), the only rules he obeys is the rules of the game. So... Yeah, they explained how it could happen in the episode, and it is unlikely to happen again, so the peril is still there for 15 and beyond.

This might be one of the few times the Doctor is genuinely happy to see himself.
Matt Smith and the Flesh Doctor was one of my favourites

He's done a lot of growing and maturing since the last time he overlapped.
"It's just occurred to me that this is what's it like when I'm alone."
I watched this with my wife last night. Ncuti Gatwa has a bright future ahead of him as the Doctor, as far as I'm concerned.
Think I worked out how the Doctor bi-generated. According to the novel, the 14th Doctor was only 15 hours old when he got shot, which means he was still regenerating at the time, as Time Lords take 36 hours to complete their regenerations, hence why they tend to suffer from regeneration sickness afterwards (which the Doctor has experienced multiple times before). Now, it was proven that a Time Lord can heal themselves during that time (i.e. the Tenth Doctor growing back his hand) so, when the Toymaker shot the Doctor, the intensity from the galvanic beam triggered the Doctor's body into regenerating again instinctively while his body was also instinctively healing itself due to still being in the first regeneration's 36hr cycle, which caused the 15th Doctor to regenerate inside the 14th's body and the 14th's body to heal itself around the 15th. The Doctor most likely didn't even realise all this was happening to him while he was regenerating so was surprised to see he spilt into two incarnations.
I thought if you killed a time lord within that 15 hours they were dead for good?
It's during the actual regeneration sequence I believe like when 11 died during regeneration when he was shot multiple times he actually died but river song changed the timelime and saved him from the fixed point

At this point I don't even care if it's dumb and makes no sense I'm just glad to see David's Doctor actually get the happily ever after he deserves.
Unrelated to the Bi-gen, I am obsessed with Neil’s delivery on “I played the first game with one Doctor, I played the second game with this Doctor, therefore, your own rules have decreed I play the third game with the Next Doctor”.
Brother had it coming.
why didnt neil say "challenge accepted!"? missed oppurtunity ^^
Oh, this dovetails so beautifully. The last time he had that face, he was so afraid and so convinced it was like death, but he's come so far in processing those feelings and he's finally ready and happy with a whole new perspective on the chance to begin again. It's so nice that he gets to see what happens next, like Thirteen wanted before she had to go. It's like the perfect visual metaphor for overcoming the past regeneration anxiety he's always struggled with.
I'm so gaga for Ncuti Gatwa Love his energy and he's hot. Looking Forward for this new season!!!!!!!
It's strange not hearing Mel scream at the sight of the Doctor being laser-visioned to seeming death; it seems like a scream-y situation. I know Bonnie Langford doesn't want to do that anymore, but still…
The shot at 2:41 as we go upside down, and see the two Doctors blossoming out of each other, is intoxicatingly creative. The immediate companionship between them was beautiful to behold, sheer joy.
Loved the callback to the Fifth Doctor's final words. "Feels different this time" indeed!

Honestly I think this was quite a beautiful book ending for David’s Doctor. Not only does it give him a way to appear in the future as the Character in what ever form that takes. But it also lets his Doctor, the one who was always losing people he loved and cares for actually win, to see him finally get a family back and actually enjoy it. THE Doctor is still out there travelling the stars and fighting aliens, but for right now THIS Doctor is going to sit back, relax and enjoy life with his best friend and family.
Edit: I wouldn’t be shocked if RTD came up with the idea of Bi-Regeneration as a way of letting David remain as a staple of the Who Universe. David has been contributing to Doctor Who since before he was even cast as the Doctor with him providing audio recordings for the animated Doctor Who series with Richard E Grant back before the Revival. He has been providing his service to the franchise for 20 years. As much as this is a celebration of the show, it’s also in part a celebration of David as the Doctor. Everything he’s done and potentially will do for the show in the future.
I agree 100% I know so many are gonna hate this decision but I feel like Russell has made this decision because he wants a soft reset for doctor who.
And I’m so excited for the adventures ahead ❤
I was thinking this too. It felt like a true happy ending for David's Doctor. He finally gets the family he always wanted... The family he could stay for.
Meanwhile THE Doctor carries on running.
the special should have cleared up how exactly the process works. If there are two doctors running around now, permanently? Not great, and it's disrespectful to gatwa to have to coexist with the second most well-known doctor of all time.
there was an implication that 15 was from the future, after 14 lives out his life with the nobles. if that's what they were going for, that's much better, but should have been more apparent-maybe a line from 15 indicating that he "regenerated into his own past" or smth
Beautiful take on this. I still not sure how I felt about it, but not as terrible as I thought it would have played out. But omg I can’t wait for Ncuti now. He going to be amazing and just seeing that Christmas trailer, I think he going to be one of my faves.
It's not over. I think there will be a new Tennant series soon. They now don't need to come up with a new mechanic to bring back Tennant which interferes with the Gatwa series. I just hope it is new series a the doctor traveling around space and not some crappy sitcom with the Nobles 😅

I always wondered if I rewatched the old tennant specials so much simply out of nostalgia or because they were just brilliant. I got my answer with this special - I’m going to be rewatching this for years to come! RTD is a genius!
Wonder if it was originally in the script for it to be stated explicitly that the reason the bi-generation (there’s no such thing…a myth) happened at all, was solely because of the Toymaker’s reality bending influence.
He literally was the author of his own downfall.
I saw someone online say "The Doctor who never wanted to go, never leaves." 10 didn't want to go, but that face reappeared with 14, and now 14 doesn't have to go. Even though he made peace and was ready to go this time, it's very nice that he is able to have his break. I absolutely love that Donna makes him a part of her family. 14 referring to Rose Noble as his "favorite neice" was absolutely adorable. 😭
This was phenomenal. Love David Tennant and already love Ncuti Gatwa
That was unexpected. But a great moment.
@@user-ht1sq Hardly Whittaker's fault. The writing of her episodes were insanely underwhelming. And somehow they wrote the Doctor out of the focus of a lot of the episodes. Whacky shit
I’m looking forward to seeing how Ncuti will do in his new role. I always reserve judgement until I’ve seen the actor play the doctor for a few episodes. However from what I’ve seen so far, including the Christmas special, he seems to be doing well and I’ve enjoyed his episodes.

Minor, minor quibble. But, if the galvanic beam was powerful enough to to destroy a satellite from thousands of miles away, and effectively kill the Doctor; shouldn’t it have at least scorched his clothing?
Just a little mark could have made it so much more realistic.
Ncuti is going to be a great Doctor, he is an incredible actor, David Tennant will always remain one of the best Doctors ever
yes true but no clean break does imo and others overshadow gatwa.....
Cheers to him
Dude is going to gay shit up and everything is going to be more woke as hell. Really what is wrong with you people? do you all like being shit on and smile after? Do you all hate men?
He isn't a copy he still regenerates into Ncuti in the future
This regeneration works on so many levels. There are fans of the show who grew up with it, and perhaps have waivering interest in the series. This is a great stopping point. You can choose to follow the story of Tennant's Doctor. He retired to a life of peace, with his best friend and her family, on Earth. Or you can choose to follow Ncuti's Doctor, who will go on to have many more adventures.
Either way, this is the end of an era, and the start of a new one, and hearing it end with "I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life" is such a good way to end it. This infinite Time Lord who's lived for billions of years (counting the confession dial), found his true happiness in finally resting. Perhaps he'll go on to revisit a few more old faces? Maybe curate a museum?
Hell, if we never see Tennant's Doctor again, I'll be perfectly content. This is one hell of a way to end his story.
Here's to Ncuti kicking ass and taking names.

When Doctor Who itself can't let go of David Tennant.
But but, RTD wouldn't understand letting go cause he's a man...
Yeah, notice how the Fifteenth Doctor is the only one not confused? Why? Because he's seen this before. Just this time he's seeing it from the other perspective.
That's really amazing! I just figured out that the reason why Tennant returned. It could be because of the trauma the 10th Doctor went through with Rose, Wilf and Donna, having to leave them and erase their memories to protect them. Notice that the 15th Doctor says he finally feels like him, a fresh start. Even the 13th Doctor and others were haunted by the 10/9th Doctor's villains like The Master. Compare to other doctor where their sidekicks either passed on or parted their own ways. The tenth doctor never actually got his peace before his regeneration. That could be possibly the reason why they gave Tennant a chance to return as the 14th Doctor. Giving him a chance to reunite with old friends as seen in this special and retire with Donna. What do y'all think?
It really feels like that instead of directly regenerating into Ncuty they decided for the special that David´s Doctor (as the 14th) returns to give his character some closure and to give the character of the Doctor the long needed rehab after all the trauma they had experienced. Overall it feels like a new era of Doctor is beginning and if I´m not mistaken the first series of the 15th Doctor will be not called Series 15 but "Season 1" to also show that the show is having a new start.
Thank you!! I see people saying it's the show claiming that David is the "best doctor" while I think he's the one who had the most horrible losses ( not entirely, ofc, but I cry over his companions the most ) and needed to recover in some way. I heard Rose may be coming back?! I wonder if it'll follow in line with the comics or if we'll see something unexpected :))
