Had a last-generation Macan Turbo as a service loaner for 3 weeks while my GT4's transmission was being replaced (the known 3rd gear issue). Really enjoyed it. Great daily driver.
EPIC review! I have a 2018 Macan Turbo and this is the ONLY review that captures it! I use this car like it’s a luxury high performance GT which is a bit more comfortable, practical and better visibility than is typical in that class. In this way the Turbo is very different than the S and GTS which are fast SUVs. The Turbo is in a whole different Zipcode in every way. There is no need to gear down manually, you just mash down the throttle and it flies effortlessly. Reviewer is so right about the weight transfer on and off throttle and feel of the Turbo through the corners!.. it is very Porsche. The ride is very good but improves with smaller wheels while you don’t lose anything in handling.
I got a 16 Turbo. Love it. Had the transfer case issue; redone under warranty. But it’s great. Hard to have a “bad day” when I get to drive it home from work.
At first I was wondering why Matt kept hitting redline but maybe it's a compliment to the engine that it feels like it can keep revving haha. There are plenty of vehicles out there you don't want to run even close to redline because they're so rough but this thing sounds sweet! Kudos to Porsche. Great review, Matt!
I was about to whinge about the two ads and your ad in the intro, and then I remembered this is free and not to be a piece of shit. Thanks for the great content over so many years.
Went to the angeles crest highway (and california) for the first time recently.. was totally worth the trip in my opinion. I did the drive in a 2020 BMW 330i xDrive which handled those roads absolutely beautifully
I've towed 7,500 lbs with my 2011 Cayenne S and it feels great. I've also test driven a Macan GTS and it's really, really good. The Taycan is by far my favorite car, though. I really want a Taycan 4S for my next daily.
Matt you say you’d take this over an M3 as a daily driver; please do a video on the RS5 Sportback. Same engine as this but more power/torque at 444/443 vs 434/405 in the Macan, plus it’s 150 lbs lighter. It has a ZF automatic instead of a dual clutch but it shifts so quick it doesn’t matter. The hatchback and AWD gives it the utility of the Macan with a lower center of gravity. It’s a great and comfortable everyday driver (MUCH better than an M3) but can be a beast when needed.
Had a go in one of these a couple of months back, Superb daily. If you have space for one car only, wait 18 months, they will lose 30% and then its perfect!
Will Satchwell I’m not sure about Macans specifically, but other Porsches I’m looking at the CPO’s (for 1-2 year old 911’s) are offered with unlimited mileage Porsche warranties and are honestly looking like pretty good buys for daily driver material if you’re willing to eat a little bit extra depreciation (coz paying a little more than a non-CPO). I’d be shocked if Porsche didn’t have similar deals for the CPO Macans. I’d be all over that if looking for a daily driver to rack up miles on.
I'm in year 5 of Macan Turbo ownership and I can think of no better vehicle to own for anyone who only has one car. My wife has a larger SUV now though so I might have to pick up a Taycan. The GTS is the sweet spot of the range. When I bought at launch they only had S & Turbo.

The Turbo and GTS share the same engine now. So IMHO the smart choice is the GTS, and have the ECU remapped or flashed or whatever they call it. They steels give more than enough force and durability for the car on track as I track the car frequently. I give you the Macan weighs a lot more but who is tracking a Macan often in reality? And even at that the steels would be fine. And I’m sorry but the Macan Turbo is by no means something that would keep up with a supercar...
denhoffer I mean you might no something I don’t but as far as everything I can find it stated the gt3 optioned as a rs comes with carbon ceramic brakes. I think I prefer the pre-refresh Macan Turbo with the 3.6 Turbo engine. I love Audi, but I’m not a huge fan of Porsche using lesser engines from Audi rather than using/designing their own engines...
@@ihatehandles3 Exactly. Porsche made a business decision to increase market share. Sean, I wouldn't consider this engine a downgrade. From all the reports this engine seems to be well built and very tuneable.

And it has just a very good fourcylinder engine, even in a not too light small SUV...
Porsche engines never disappoint!
I’m not sure why you would want the Macan over the Panamera Sport Turismo. Just as practical with sportier dynamics.
I do wish they did a new face lift for the Macan turbo open up that grille more kind of like the q8
I think I prefer the pre-refresh Macan Turbo with the 3.6 Turbo engine. I love Audi, but I’m not a huge fan of Porsche using lesser engines from Audi rather than using/designing their own engines...
A lot of places have a luxury tax for engines over 3000cc , so this new engine made it a lot more affordable
@@ihatehandles3 Exactly. Porsche made a business decision to increase market share.
Sean, I wouldn't consider this engine a downgrade. From all the reports this engine seems to be well built and very tuneable.
Doesn't fucking matter what you "prefer"... buddy! Fact is, that the 2.9 liter V6 engine is the way more modern engine, which has better numbers in every aspect. This engine is fantastic. You certainly have no experience in driving both engines. You are just talking ... blah blah man! "Lesser engines" is quite funny too... Audi engines are on the same level of quality.
Isnt this engine sourced off of whats in the RS4/RS5?
Which is the better sports crossover, this or the Maserati Levante Trofeo?
Christ I forgot about the side burns . Spooky stuffs man.
Sounds great!
What is that horrible back ground noise? Is that tyre raw? Doesn't sound nice at all
I think the VR and VQ sound awesome. Very unique sound. VQ sounds like VR minus the turbo sound.
I'm pretty sure that you're the only one. Veeery few exhaust systems sound good on the VQ in particular
Snape if you think I’m the only one who likes the VQ and VR sound then you’re pretty naive or just don’t pay attention.
Vq's sound like someone ripped ass through trumpet. They're horrible
I know you have the X3 M coming in a few weeks, but how would the X3/4 m40i compare to the Macan, as the BMW’s do 0-60 in 4.4s and cost around 60-70K?
would comp with Macan S
Matt, what do you like more? The Macan S or X3/4M40i?
Daniel V i would never get another BMW because of reliability issues and very high cost of ownership
Matt, Audi RS5 Sportback! Faster, quicker, roomier and just as much rear hatch capacity. Has a higher performance version of this engine and will put handle that Macan as well. Have you tested one?
Is Macan better daily drive than a Panamera? Panamera seem really huge and bulky..
Great content!
Love the matching Weiss "Miami Blue" watch, Matt. Awesome review.
How about this vs a Panamera Sport Turismo with the same motor?
This or an x3m or the new gla45? Both can be had for cheaper
We have the X3M in two weeks and can report back on that once we drive it. The GLA45 is an inferior vehicle (transverse layout, DCT with a mind of its own)
TheSmokingTire looking forward to your X3M impressions. It can be had loaded up for under $70k pretty easily and has even more performance than the Macan.
Signore, this is ABSOLUTELY a product endorsement I will use if I ever have need(and the way I drive it's likely). Sincere thank you on this one. Sorry I guess my balls just aren't smelly enough and I hate lace up leather shoes. LOL, clicking link now!
I test drove 2 non-turbo Macans and I was shocked at how poorly they handled! I had test driven Audi's suv's, a range rover and the bmw X3M40i while shopping for a car for my wife. We ended up getting the X3M-C and I can tell you the Porsche Macan is not even in the same class and I'm a Porsche guy with a 911 turbo.
You say you would rather have than any sports sedan, wondering that was also considering the Taycan 4S.
I know that EV has its own challenges and lack of traditional sound.
Video aside Matt, where did you learn to cook so well? (IG) 😭
food network and practice!
Trapezoidial is what they call the rear suspension set up.
rs5 engine?
Maybe but it makes less power
Yes it is.
Pretty sure it makes the same power. Maybe torque is different
Yep, it's a Audi engine used in RS5 and RS4. I believe S6 and S7 uses it outside of Europe aswell.
@@eshanmirash2456 the RS version makes 444hp and 443 tq.
Better than the X3 competition?
Left foot brake right foot gas sounds like a drake song 😂
Is this the same 2.9 in the Audi RS5? Also in the Cayenne?
Yes.
I love tow "a little bit" equates to over 5000 lbs.
That's like a decent sized cuddy boat it can tow 🤯
Gerard Walsh I tow my 21’ Yamaha Jet Boat with my Macan Turbo. No issues and very stable.
Which road is this?
Get the GTS.
4 years later there are cpo turbos for $35k 😅. Want one so bad
15:35 oh boy... he said the M word.. here comes all the hate comments
