Honestly I didn't like the Giff at first, I thought they were just silly. But as I began to plan my own home brew dnd world and set it in the renascence era I found myself referring back to their stat block over and over again for musket and grenade rules. Then as more 5e spell jammer books came out with more Giff entries came out I had an epiphany. The Giff are a space empire, that isn't evil, and aren't another flavor of elves. Now I embrace the Giff they are the rigged lawful bulwark who defends the universe against the forces of the Beholders, Mindflayers, and Neogi. They aren't the kindest, they aren't the easiest to work with, and they certainty aren't cheep, but every one is safer and better off with them around. And I cannot stress this enough, they aren't elves. I swear there's like 12 eleven sub races of them. A third of them lack any real flavor, and another third get way too much attention and lore. It really wouldn't be as bad if the other races like dwarves and orcs got as much attention, but come on why is every 3rd fantasy author an elf simp.
I've always liked Giff. You see all sorts of animal-humanoid hybrids, but a hippo-hybrid is just so out there that it makes me laugh. Plus... they really like blowing things up. Just a hilarious combination.
@@DumpStat I am re writing the Giff a little to be less flandorized buffoonish explosion lovers. But my version of their lore involves them -according to myth_ destroying their original home world because they created the perfect bomb. And they are seeking to recreate sed perfect bomb.
I also hope that WOTC resurrects this amazing campaign setting. I plan on running my own home brew 5e Spelljammer game and these videos are a great resource of information for myself and my players. Thank you for Your hard work and effort. I hope to see more spell jammer content in future videos.
We are excited to announce our upcoming Kickstarter focused on tools, kits, & supplies in D&D 5e! www.kickstarter.com/projects/dumpstat/toolcraft-making-tools-useful-for-5e
Idea for a campaign: A platoon of Giff soldiers leading a rebellion against an oppressive empire of slavers. I call it Githyankis versus Giff Yankees.
"Give me booms or give me death!"
I'm going to be playing a Giff in my group's upcoming Spelljammer campaign. Thank you for showing us what they're all about.
Your articles are incredible, I love them
Thank you! We appreciate it
