Bringing up Majin Buu, a Sun Soul Monk could be representative of it. Deflect Missiles is just bullets bouncing off his body. Searing Sun Bolts are Ki Blasts, etc.
Wear a hollow mechagnome shell as armor. Pretend to be a mechagnome until you get caught. Have hollow articulated statues that you can enter shaped like various animals. You can be a wolf or tiger for combat. You can be a small donkey to be your own pack animal. Humanoids aren't the only things with limbs and heads. You can use invisibility and flatten out on a chair, bed or floor to get an auto hit with a touch spell. You are a sleep demon. Become flat or umbrella shaped to glide or slowfall. Wrap yourself around a companion and cast Barkskin or Mage Armor on yourself to give them the benefit.
You had me at sleep demon! I gotta say I never in my life considered such a concept. It’s just so complex and so imaginative I give you credit. I really think it’s a cool idea. I feel like that’s such a plasmoid way of life. Like I feel that is something they really do often. I think it hits on thinking and acting like a plasmoid, which is some thing I didn’t even consider taking into account. I thought of being a plasmoid as being more akin to myself. I totally missed the mark on the possibility, which you did not which just is awesome!
Plasmoid is a fun race! I’ve been wanting to make a plasmoid moon druid to be like a mimic or an oblex for scouting and luring creatures to you before striking.
So I just like making characters with different concepts. Trying new races like this one brought two ideas right off the bat. The first one ( having never seen or watched most anime stuff ) was a no weapons, or gear rogue monk combo. This race is begging for stuff like the soulknife rogue, so I mixed that with a shadow monk. A small sized blob that just rides along with another pc as a little buddy hidden in a backpack. Doesn’t speak, but makes basic faces for emotion/communication. Psychic blades for sneak attacks, and monk features looks like a ton of fun in the right campaign. The other idea is a fathomless warlock, with pods, tentacles, etc… Spelljammer might have been a flop overall, but just take the best of what dnd has to offer and have fun with it. Good stuff Danny. Keep it coming!
The pseudopod specifically saying "The pseudopod contains no sensory organs" makes no sense. Anyone can tell if someone has pushed something soft or hard, hot or cold, sharp or blunt into their back, or any other part of their own body. Eliminating the sense of touch from part of any creature's attached body part seems.....odd, to say the least.
A build I would really like to try with a Plasmoid is actually Artificer Armorer. There's an item in Mythic Odysseys of Theros called Molten Bronze Skin, which is a breastplate, half plate, or full plate armor that adheres to your skin. The description says it "doesn't impede bodily functions" meaning you can still use Amorphous while wearing heavy armor. As an Armorer, you can make the Molten Bronze Skin your Arcane Armor, and therefore your spellcasting focus with a built-in weapon, meaning you can be fully equipped while still squeezing through 1 inch openings. Add this with either Disguise Self or Alter Self and you're basically the T-1000 from Terminator 2.
Oh my god that’s brilliant!!!! That’s so cool! I love that idea and building around a magical item really makes it personal. If ever your character passed that magic armor would mean so much to another character. That’s so cool
i get more of a clayface vibe. mix with a soulknife. translucent in color and have a suit leathers strapped together and leather mask/cap type head covering. about to get caught turn into a puddle. beast barbarian or star druid kind of spacy vibe. and talk will be down with its appendage like a sock puppet. artificer also seems interesting mix
The more I hear it the more I love the idea of a soul knife plasmoid it just seems so thematic. Imagine forming the souls knife but it just sort of manifests out of your limb.
Ok so they have scavenger eating patterns and they form life long bonds of friendship. So here’s my idea right. The ooze bonds with a dragon. But while the dragon was maybe in a different form right. Then maybe something went down the dragon showed its true form and then the plasmoid stays by there side. After being there for a while the plamoid unknowingly reproducing a new plasmoid would emerge and after being just around that dragon and absorbing the charred remains of those who would of attacked the dragon, the ooze would of absorbed some of the draconic energy over its like creation, and growth. Which kinda follows your thinking. In D&D being around certain entities or places you can absorb there magic to a sense. Like firbolgs eladrin and the fae to the shadar Kai in the shadow fell.
