I think the Scandinavian countries are democratic socialist , which are a bit different than the pure socialist, this is great info that I never had in school and I like how he explains without bias the difference between Socialism and Communism. People own private property and the means of production, democraticlly elected leaders and Communism there's no property ownership the gov owns and controls everything , gives out food, transportation, housing ,etc basically a classless society, it's different from socialism. The only thing is if a corrupt leader gets in power , it would be hell but as he mentioned there has not been a real communist country ever as they wouldn't fit under the list .

So wait. Let me get this straight. People assemble. Okay. So people are just standing around where they assembled and they do what? How does anything get done? How do people get fed on a national level if there is no government to build and execute ways for that to happen? How do the people receive any proper education if there isn’t a way to nationalize a set curriculum with absolute truths. How does an assembly of random people get anything done with out structure? How do the people communicate their needs and come together if there is no central power connecting them? Do you want to know why governments exist? It’s because even the most outlandish governments can work, if only for a short period, if there is structure and some form of order. Humans tend to follow a type of central command made up of humans they deem worthy to lead because it’s easier to communicate and educate through a hub. Without that hub, a society can’t really be sustained because everyone is working for their own personal goals, but they lack an overall goal that everyone wants. Idk, I’m done. Communism is dumb and it has never worked.

I have a deep understanding of communism. Especially from the Russia (Soviet) point of view. From 1984-1986 I served an LDS mission in New York City as a Russian speaking missionary. I spent my two years working with Russians, all who had immigrated from the Soviet Union. I had many older Russian friends who were in concentration camps and had lived their lives in the Soviet system (the perfect communistic system experiment). I could write a book on the terrible strife these people lived in. But my real learning on communism was living in the Soviet Union (Leningrad) the summer of 1990. This was the summer the Berlin Wall came down, and one year before the Soviet Union dissolved. I lived the life of a Soviet Russian for the summer. It was super exciting for me. But I can't even begin to paint the picture of life under Soviet rule. The young ones of today would not believe me. You are right, Dan. Socialism is the gateway to communism. When I see the democrats pushing socialism I just can't even believe it. They have absolutely NO IDEA what they are messing with. It is scary, scary, scary. Thank you for such a powerful video.

NSA and CIA and Guantanamo also have nothing to do with "capitalism". They are "government".
Gulags are indeed the same as "some" nazi camps. There were 2 types of camps. Work camps and death camps.
The original Nazi "work" camps were a copy of the original soviet gulag work camps. "Death" camps, after 42 became different.
The actual numbers of those that perished in the german and soviet camps will never be determined, but most believe that more died in the Gulags.
Democrats may indeed believe they want "social democracy'. But the economies of Denmark, Norway and Sweden are not "socialist democracy". They are absolutely capitalist economies, considered to be freer economies than the US according to economists.
"achievements of USSR". The achievements include gulags, which you attempt to justify. OK, lets ignore human misery and collapse and government against the will of the people. Compare the "achievements" to capitalist western Europe.

While socialism meets the inherently social needs of humans, what about competition? Capitalism fulfills it, but without it, I fear that people will find a way to be cruel or exploitative to one another in some other way, like through further division between political ideologies or sports rivalries. How can this be combatted? How can our competitive sides be satisfied?

    • @k00ij
      @k00ij 5 месяцев назад

The idea is not to completely remove capitalism. There will still be rewards for achievement. It's just that with socialistic policies that would negate abuse of workers. If people had their needs met (food, housing, healthcare, leisure time, etc), then they wouldn't be ripe for exploitation as they are in the US. If you don't have to be a wage slave simply to stay alive then cooperations would have to pay you what you deserve or they wouldn't get the workers.

How many times do I have to say that a Social Democracy is NOT the same as Democratic Socialism.
1)Sweden is a SOCIAL DEMOCRACY; a fundamentally CAPITALIST system with a large welfare state. Democratic Socialism is when then means of production are owned by (realistically) the state but the people/workers have a say in how businesses are run. 2)Communism does NOT require revolution neither is socialism achieved through democratic means. Socialism is described as a post-capitalist and pre-communist state that can be seen as the transitionary state form Capitalism to Communism. Prominent examples of Socialism are the socioeconomic state of the USSR (pre glasnost/perestroika), the PRC under Mao and possibly, a more gentle version, Tito's Yugoslavia.
    3) When most people today talk about "communist" countries their referring to Socialist nations run by a Communist Party. Nobody is ever referring to "theory communism" just like when people say "capitalist" they're referring to mixed economies with a prominent private sector, like the USA and not "theory capitalism". Both the theoretical versions of communism and capitalism have never been implemented and will, probably, never be.
    To sum up,
    -Social Democracy=Capitalism + Welfare
    -Socialism=State-owned means of production
-Democratic Socialism=State-owned m.o.p. + will of the people
    -Communism=Moneyless, Classless, Stateless
-When people talk about communist countries they're referring to ones like the USSR and when talking about capitalist countries they're referring to ones like the USA. Both terms are wrongly used but it is convenient so it's very acceptable to use them in that manner.

Actually, and sorry to nitpick, but when you say "Democratic Socialism", I think you're actually referring to "Social Democracy". The two terms are infuriatingly similar, and I've only recently learnt the differences between them myself.
Democratic Socialism is a form of more moderate socialism that was labelled as such by it's advocates to differentiate itself from other forms of Socialism, like the USSR, Cuba, North Korea, that they saw as undemocratic and that they wished to distance themselves from.
Social Democracy is the softer form of Capitalism, where the economic system is maintained, with the Bourgeoisie owning the "capital", but that aims to lessen wealth inequality and increase public ownership. This is what the Nordic countries support, along with politicians like Bernie Sanders.
    Aside from that, great video.

Didn’t this happen in Catalonia in 1936..they wanted independence anarchist formed a militia and defeated the military, but if you didn’t want to fight to overthrow the government whatever you owned was taken and you were left with just enough for yourself..if you had land they took it leaving a person with just enough that they could farm themselves. Workers committees took over businesses..
Factories, hotels, salons, restaurants were all run by the anarchist workers…persona property like land became communes. The workers wanted morality because they believed it kept people accountable and willing to do their fair share but others thought morality was oppressive and women gain access to abortion, free love, prisoners were set free, public nudity became legal..of course problems arose…I think it lasted 3 years..because people were not ok with having their wealth distributed, eventually communist took over…i may have this story wrong but it’s close 🙃

I appreciate that this is not biased but it is also not correct. In the description of Communism, everything was right until the claim that the State controls all property. This is not what Communism is. The first part of the explanation is right, Communism is a classless society where productive property and assets are held in common by all of society, by function Communism is also a post scarce society (meaning commodities for use-value, goods which satisfy human needs and wants, are in such abundance that profit isn't necessary).
There is no state at all in Communism. 'Communist states' of the 20th century, and including China, Cuba, Vietnam and Laos today, all claim to be Communist states in that they are controlled by a Communist party under Marxist-Leninist ideology. Marxist Leninism states underdeveloped countries that are not sufficiently developed for socialism or communism to evolve must be controlled by a strong vanguard Communist Party which is made up of workers and intelligentsia (theorists, thinkers) to guide economic development so that when conditions are right, a peaceful transition to Socialist and Communist society can be achieved. Communist Parties are meant to ensure a safe transition to further stages of development, but those states like the USSR, are not Communist societies and nor do/did they claim to be.

Democratic socialism doesn’t sound bad, free healthcare and education through taxes sound great, that explains why Nordic people live good lives.

Those countries are social democratic, not democratic socialist. Democratic socialism in its purest form is actually having the people seize the means of production but the political system is just democratic.

@@lilithchaotc I said that, what people mean by free is when it comes to Universal Healthcare, its free at the point of when you use it, weather it be an ambulance and a hospital bed and yes this will be payed through tax payer money.

@@lilithchaotc If you mean in the context of the United States, it would be a tax cut. Public taxes would raise, but whats effectively private tax (copays, premiums, deductibles) would be eliminated, the difference being that Americans would save money on healthcare.

The 2nd point at 3:28, ignores anarchism, and to some extent market socialism. There is little to no need for a state in those versions because most businesses would be worker cooperatives, where each worker has a democratic say in how their workplace is run.

You said that in socialsim, everybody gets an equal share of the goods by the government, but shortly after you mentioned that effort and innovation are rewarded in socialism? Doesn't that make it capitalism?? If everybody gets an equal share, than it would have to matter how much you put in right?? Can someone please explain
