"The Glamorous Life" (Audra McDonald, A Little Night Music)
and this, ladies and gentlemen, is why she has 6 tonys.
I love how no one can hate on her. Everyone is looking at her with admiration and appreciation. Performances like this is why she has 6 Tony's. Audra McDonald ladies and gentlemen!
I’m Elaine Stritch, shaking my head in awe at that display of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.
Audra McDonald: opens her mouth to sing
Me: adds video to Favorites
Same here, lol!
*To this day, her rendition of Stars and the Moon is my only favourite among all the versions of said song*
Ditto
After watching this no one can deny her of her six Tonys
Audra is definitely the only actor who can make me tear up at this song. She is BRILLIANT.
Me, too! Every single time!
"Which is lovely I hear..." the facade cracks in a mere 4 seconds. Audra McDonald is a genius
“And wither on the vine” gets me every time. Her voice is so beautiful and brings comfort to the soul.
patti is FEELIN this love it
TRUEEEEE
This is SUCH a hard song, particularly the counting, and Audra makes it seem like the easiest thing in the world. Insane.
Her voice is a miracle gushing from a beautiful vessel. Magic.
This song makes me feel desperately sorry for any woman who died before the turn of the 21st century.
I was raised by a single mom who worked hard to provide for the two of us & this song reminds me of the many times I defended my mom when my classmates teased me because their mothers frequently visited them at school, bringing lunches or chaperoning field trips...anyway, I love this song and this actress.
First of all, she is just plain ol' brilliant! Second, I don't think I've ever heard that part of the show - what a great piece!!!!
holy shit what did I just witness my life is changed
You got that right!
This is a splendid performance of a song written for the daughter in the movie version of "A Little Night Music." One of the few high spots in the film. (Liz Taylor singing? I rest my case.) Audra is dreamy.
Yes, thank you. I know this musical inside and out and I wondered where this beautiful tune came from? Audra is a goddess performing here.
Make sure you find the televised performance that was done in the 90’s. It was fabulous.
That movie is such a shame, because I love Liz but who in the hell thought casting her in that was a good idea?
The more I watch this the better it gets. Having had the amazing experience of seeing Audra perform in Melbourne, I am always moved by this song. Sondheim and Audra at their best. Stunning.
Her voice is perfection. I love everything she sings.
But... man I cant stop looking at her arms in this performance!
This is an utterly stunning performance. In the midst of so much awesomeness. Incredible.
if you can make it through this performance without tears, then you have no soul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never get bored of her voice and her fire within (:
I think about this performance daily tbh... so effortless.
OUTSTANDING! SHE HAS SOMETHING SO SPECIAL IN HER PERFORMANCES!
God the emotion in that last 30 seconds is amazing. (I mean the whole thing is)
I'm with Donna Murphy - BRAVO
such a heartbreaking song....brilliant
Audra + Sondheim is magical! Thank you for uploading these, they're so special!
Amazing!!!! She is a Queen!
What a voice what drama Audra is simply amazing. She brings such beauty to Sondheim’s words and music .
Audra is the tops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🍟
Dear Lord this woman is erupting with beauty and talent.
My heart broke, I gained life and I am grateful to have experienced this moment.
Ahhhhhhhh! I love her soooooooo much! Can't wait to see her as the opera singing dresser in Beauty and the Beast!!!
I can only dream of possessing every song like Audra does. Unabashed with her instrument and fully in control of every note.
How is she so perfect?
SoaringTrumpet She works at it...always
amazing..never get tired of hearing Audra
This voice is a treasure.
Also, checkout Patti in the back feeling the feels.
Stunning. Such a heartbreaking song.
Astounding!
That was just a whole lot of yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely mesmerising!
Audra McDonald is a global treasure ❤
I bow to you, Audra!!
This makes me smile.
She is Perfection
SHEER PERFECTION !!!
The writing and acting are all just tip tip top. So great.
a little night music is one of the best musicals ever made. it's so fucking underrated. even among sondheim fans
Musically, "A Little Night Music" is my favorite Sondheim musical. i saw the original cast on Broadway way back in the early seventies (73?) and was blown away. But I don't remember this song (it would have been sung by Desirée's very young daughter, which is strange considering the power necessary to carry this off). It's also not on the album. But Audra, of course, absolutely kills this. But what can't she do?
Amazing!
Love Her!!!!
amazing!!!!!!!
The way Christine Baranski look s at Audra is an entire lovefest.
Do you mean Marin Mazzie?
that was very well done. good job!
This version of The Glamourous Life was written for the screen version.
Aura McDonald should sing at the opera.
AJ Dezelle she does!
Does anyone know how the repertoire for this performance was chosen? It almost seems like each lady was asked to supply her favourite. Though "The Glamorous Life" suits MacDonald's operetta faculties beautifully, it seems like such an unlikey choice for an artistic director programming a show to make...I can imagine MacDonald doing "The Miller's Son" and knocking it out of the park.
Autostade67 Oh my gosh! I would love to see her sing "The Miller's Son"
Autostade67 I've always assumed it was a personal choice by each actress, with the caveat that it couldn't be a song you originated.
I thought so too. No wonder Bernadette picked Not A Day Goes By.
I assumed it was based on what was considered their signature Sondheim song at the time of the Concert? Patti had just done a run of Company so she gets "Ladies Who Lunch," Bernadette often performs "Not a Day Goes By," Audra sings "Glamorous Life" fairly often in concert as a tribute to her daughter, and similar reasoning for the rest of the choices during the "divas" section.
masterpiece
This piece is extremely difficult!!!
Is there anything Audra can’t do?
wonderful|||||
This was not in the final version of Night Music, i don't think..
Brent Edwards a different song with the same title is in the stage show. This song was written for the film.
makes sense.. it was a Sondheim number no doubt.. having seen this on stage this song is a big ensemble number around Desiree's entrance I believe not a solo...
Typo in the Title
there are 4 women on this stage that I would pay to see ... and Audra is just after Patti
on shopna oozes l -
Don't fall in love with her within 30 seconds challenge: failed
too bad she never finished her studies at juilliard. she needs vocal coaching because shes fallen into microphone stand and musical theatre trappings. smh.
She did go back school and got her degree
With a thriving career, a healthy bank account, and a puny little shelf filled with only six Tony Awards, I think she may -- just MAY -- be doing okay.
I saw her as Bess. I have a conservatory degree in voice. Her technique is bulletproof. There's a reason that this song is often cut: it's punishing, and usually ill suited to the women cast in the part.
+Bernard P Fife This comment just restored my faith in the internet!
I'd like to think this is just McDonald's preference of performance.
