They brought out the heavy hitters! Sutton Foster, Patti Lupone AND Audra McDonald! No wonder Meryl Streep looks like she's died and gone to heaven. She's sitting next to Barbara Cook and watching Broadway royalty on stage. It doesn't get much better than that.

This is the best of the Kennedy Center Honors tributes to a Broadway performer that I've seen so far. And you could see the level of talent that turned out to honor the peerless Barbara Cook - God, Laura Osnes, Rebecca Luker, Kelli O'Hara, Glenn Close, Sutton Foster, Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, all performing sincerely and at the top of their form on the same stage. No wonder the (always appreciative and peerless) Meryl Streep was crying. It was better than the tribute to her haha.

In my opinion, this is the best musical tribute of all the Kennedy Center Honors. It's my favorite. The seamless unfolding of these super-talented women vocalists brought a beauty, brightness, and magical quality that is spellbinding. As others here note, Meryl Streep, Yo Yo Ma, Neil Diamond, and the others were as moved as Barbra Cook. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. It keeps drawing me back.

Each has something different but equally wonderful to offer, but we must remember that it was BARBARA COOK who made ALL these magnificent songs famous to begin with. and there she was looking BEAUTIFUL and REGAL as a QUEEN at age EIGHTY-FOUR! For some who might think that Meryl Streep was given a less spectacular tribute, you have to remember she was among some strong musical honorees that evening:
    Barbara Cook, musical theater legend
    Neil Diamond, pop music
    Yo Yo Ma, classical music
    Sonny Rollins, jazz
It's unusual for the Kennedy Center Honors to have such a music heavy event, so I think it was good that they took it down a notch and made Meryl's tribute more relaxed and intimate, with some humor and even a song from her past.

I'm a huge Meryl fan but I must say this had to be my favorite tribute of the night. Meryl is a close second. Barbara Cook looked truely touched and honor. Plus I didn't know Glenn Close could sing. And Meryl was crying. Now I'm about to cry. Beautifully done!

Laura, Sutton, Audra, and Kelli are among my favorites (along with Barbara, of course). Patti is a legend and Glenn and Rebecca are amazing as well. How could you beat this group in 2011?

This still is the best KCH tribute to date. Others may have had more famous performers and so on, but this was just perfection. The production, the pacing, the choice of material - and everyone on that stage making absolutely clear that they're singing and taking a bow for an institution of their craft.

Michael L. Morehead Her Tony awards (born by really by an epic Andrew Lloyd Weber tantrum rather than her voice if you know the background scoop) do not and never will make her more memorable than a scuff on Patti LuPone's character shoe while actually really playing Norma.
