The only time I get frustrated when people use the word 'cisgender' is when it is used as an insult when it has nothing to do with what is being talked about (similar to how calling a guy a 'fag' was just a general insult) or to exclude people. For example, when my sibling was first exploring and trying to understand their gender identity, they would do things like tell me I could not go to things like trans rights rallies or gender related protests because I am cisgender. From my experience, people tend to use terms such as "trans" and "gender" as all encompassing words to identify themselves. That's how we get terms such as transrace, trans-age, transspecies, anxiegender (socially anxious), autigender (autistic), and pokegender (identifying as a Pokemon).

My mom HATES being called straight. She doesn't like the origin of the word, because it stems from the idea that queer people are crooked, and cishet people are straight or "correct."
Honestly? I respect it. It's a valid reason to not want to be called something, so I only call her hetero.
Cisgender or straight aren't slurs, but if you have a valid reason to not want to be called them, queer people _will_ respect it, as long as you respect them. It's really interesting, actually.
That’s actually a pretty interesting reason for why your mom doesn’t want to be called straight. I’ve never thought of that before, but she’s right
That's a pretty cool reason. I think at this point it's engrained enough into our language that it isn't really a big deal anymore but I respect it
@@GDRhythmic Agreed. I don't think we should depopularize the term, but I completely understand her not wanting to use it. It's a nice reason, an actually respectful one. She doesn't have to identify with the term (I'm also pretty sure she's not totally hetero, but she's married to a man, so she doesn't have to worry about it)
I do think this is an interesting perspective. I do think for the most part the words gay" and "queer" have been reclaimed, but i do respect the personal choice to use a different label knowing the origin of the terms. There do seem to be a few people who misunderstand what trans people are, with some people thinking it's "sex stereotyping", but i think thats a symptom of the labels being misunderstood as trying to codify a strict view of gender rather than an attempt to meet people at their current level of understanding
I actually didn't know that. That's pretty interesting.

Same. I frankly couldn’t care less about what others do with their identity. I just wanna be a women. Not a cis-gendered women.
Some of us just don't like it, we're not offended by it. I don't need nor want to have a specific word that describes me for being the gender I was born as. I'm a woman, end of story 🙅🏻♀️ I won't get offended if I'm called cis, I simply just don't want to refer to myself as that
To the people who think “cis” is a slur or insult, it’s not.
And if you call a nonbinary, transgender, demigender, genderfluid, or any other LGBTQ++ person “trans,” we will not feel insulted because that’s ALSO not an insult. We may correct you if we aren’t trans, but usually we will not be offended.

i dont understand how people get so mad for being called cisgender. it's not an insult, they ARE cisgender by definition
They think it’s a slur because they use Trans as a slur
The only time I get frustrated when people use the word 'cisgender' is when it is used as an insult when it has nothing to do with what is being talked about (similar to how calling a guy a 'fag' was just a general insult) or to exclude people.
For example, when my sibling was first exploring and trying to understand their gender identity, they would do things like tell me I could not go to things like trans rights rallies or gender related protests because I am cisgender. Thankfully, they do not do that anymore, but when they did, it was really frustrating and hurt. Especially because I am in the LGBTQ+ community, I'm bi.
