I've always felt that bands from this era should down tune as they get older to compensate for their singers voices getting deeper. Also so that they don't strain their voice or something.
In most cases it sounds better as well, at least in my opinion. ... But what about the Drop-C players from this era? (if there were any at all) how low would they have to go? Deepest tuning I know of is Drop-A... Best guess is Drop-B which is really deep... (overthinking music, yeah!)
1337million Well, Drop-G is possible for a 6-string guitar, just ask Dimebag Darrell. If you want to go lower, you can find Meshuggah playing in F (the standard tuning for an 8-string guitar is F#, so they play a half-step down).
Jack Daniels 7 string tuning or lower i've played in (For metal): B standard - Drop A - Bb - A standart - Drop G - Ab - G standard - Drop F# - Gb - F# standard - Drop E - F#b - E standard (a hole octave down) And then E / B / D / A / D / G / B / E
Metallica already does that. I saw 'Tallica back on January 22, and this was how One sounded. Well, similar. It was faster and they sounded different, of course.

I don’t agree with comments like these. You’re not taking survivorship bias into account - older art has the benefit of being filtered and curated by the test of time. Of course it’s going to seem better than today’s popular music, which we’re consuming in real time. Popular music in the 80’s was also about sex, drugs, partying, and related bullshit, and there is in fact modern rap and hip hop that is thoughtful (Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly comes to mind)
