Nice video. Very helpful as I just purchased a similar vice to install. I have to agree with the comment about your use of table saw at 5:16. That procedure is quite likely to result in a kickback. Please be more careful.
Those bolts protruding from the front will take the skin off of your fingers, fit countersunk screws into the wood from the front, they do not need to be strong as the wood is held in place when compressed.
Well it is just my opinion and each of us is different. Something I think is important is meaningless to others. The bolts that were used to mount the wooden piece to he moving jaw are going to hurt your hands at some point, cap head screws installed from the outside would be more than adequate. The metal jaws should be slightly below the top of the bench not flush with it. The wooden jaws can be made flush but if you are using a hand plane and hit one of those jaws it will ruin a plane iron. No need to use bolts nuts and washers drilled through the table. Lag screws of the appropriate length would work just fine. Drill some bench dog holes so the tongue on the moving jaw can be used. Add a couple pieces of leather to the jaws to eliminate slipping. You are way ahead of me as I would never be industrious enough to film things my shop. All in all your video was good quality and interesting right to the end. Please post more.
It’s a nice video & helpful. your lag bolts are a good addition, just would have possibly benefited from using a drill guide or bored from the bottom that’s all. Exceptional final demo of quick release system👍
Best large vice installation tutorial ever. Very impressed with the camera being on the the subject matter all the time, and not the instructor. I will adopt this approach fully when install a quick release vice next week. May I ask what brand of clamp vice did you use at start of this video. Great work.
Thank you! I guess you're talkin about the red locksmith vice? It has imprinted "york" on it, so I guess it's a york vice. It is a pretty old one I found in the basement of my Parents Home, so I can't give you any details about the model or age.
I recently stripped and restored a record 52 1/2. The quick release doesn’t work, never did. It’s as if the mechanism isn’t travelling far enough to disengage. I’ve tried different notches in the spring to tension it with no luck, any ideas anybody?
Nice video. Your calm approach is refreshing. Good work
Thank you

I have a 10" and a 9" Yost vise on my bench and I used lag bolts and washers from the bottom. Much easier and no holes to deal with.
This looks exactly like the Doyle vice from Harbor Freight.
Yep, Eclipse, Doyle, Yost are all the same it looks like to me.

5:16 your going to regret cutting a board like this one day
Never use fence and miter guide at the same time. I'll always keep it in my mind! 😌
Lots of things wrong with this installation but you were brave enough to film and post so good for you.
So tell me whats wrong in your opinion? What would you do different?

Vielleicht nicht genau das, was ich wollte, aber eine Menge Inspiration für mein Projekt. Danke.
Try adding some rubber O rings to the vice handle. It will help silence the loud clunk you get when you drop the handle after securing the work piece.
But I like that clunk. It’s a quiet satisfying sound.
I'm about to install this particular vise. Your demonstration worked perfectly for me. Thank you!
This is really excellent thank you
That’s a pretty nice Record Vice, thanks for the excellent tutorial!

Im looking for a vice for my new workspace, but can you tell me if the mechanism of a quick release is solid and durable?
It is still working perfectly, and I only lubed it twice in four years. The quick release mechanism is definitely well made and does it‘s Job.
I like this VDO😂
You make this way too hard. Use lag bolts and you don’t have to do all that unnecessary drilling.
Very helpful!
Is this the 9 inch eclipse?

I have this vice which now i cannot use because the swift release will not reengage to the drive I cannot figure out how to fix it
Also know as buttress threads , extremely strong 💪🏼!!!
Woodglut has very good and accurate plans.
Wahnsinn wie unsauber du arbeitest.
