As a Munich citizen, I know most of these stores, but the hat store was new to me. Thanks for introducing. If I should ever run into you by chance, I will spend you a good coffee :-)

I remember that too! I repeated it to my children …. And they look at me puzzled 🤔. I said you heard me correctly …. It means save your money and wait to buy quality, so you buy it ONCE ! They won’t buy quality pots so I buy them for their birthdays, Christmas and now you won’t have warped pots that don’t sit flat and perfectly on your stove . It’s nice to have a beautiful experience using quality made things. I wished I learnt that in my 30’s when outfitting my home … I made so many repeat purchases of things that didn’t last very long.

    • @katella

It aggravates me so much when you give someone a truly quality item and they treat it like it is something that came from Walmart.

    • @ash3rr
      @ash3rr Месяц назад +2

Buying quality is also an environmental decision. We have finite resources and cheap manufacturing from countries such as China not only are wasteful, they are polluting.

I'm 71 and still use things that were used by my Viennese grandmother, then my mother. Enamel kitchenware, scales, bed linens, table linens, handkerchiefs, nightgowns. Many of the linen items have lace that was made by my mother and grandmother. I also have some handmade wooden things that are in constant use in my home that were made by my grandfather, clocks, tables, inlaid boxes, rolling pin, spoons, his walking stick. All these things are more beautiful for their age. Sadly, my American grandchildren will not want any of these things, or even know what they are. I'm afraid that all these beautiful, quality items will simply be thrown away when I die. Makes me sad.

Edited: Aargh! I meant failed to delight, not failed to disappoint. I’m pretty picky when my RUclipsrs post travelogues, but yours have never failed to disappoint. I lived in Germany in the late eighties to early nineties and loved visiting shops and department stores. And remember, as for your bike it’s not goodbye but auf Wiedersehen, because you two will be meeting again.

Good morning from NZ. Please go and find yourself a beautiful old wooden darning mushroom and find someone who can teach you how to darn the hole in your socks. It is a beautiful skill to have and once mastered, is so aesthetically pleasing to look at and wear. It will keep your socks going for years and fill you with yet another little moment of joy every time you put the sock on. Much love x

    Hello from Sweden!🇸🇪🇸🇪
Thank you Rajiv! For letting us know about the Manufaktúm shop...
I found out that you can buy online, but they also have a shop in Stuttgart where 2 of my Cousins live... So I will chech rhe online shop out and then ask one of my Cousins to buy some things for me and who is then comming to visit here in Sweden later in November.
And by the way the Riess name actually pronounces like the First word you said = like Reess but with a burred R.
AND As you might know, Germany, just like here in Sweden, is a very environmental protectionous, Sustainable, thinking Country and have a lot of good products related to that.... Everything between Heaven & Earth! So once again Thank You🙏🏻💖🤗🇸🇪

I have lived in Munich since 2014 and a couple of years ago I moved to an apartment that is literally around the corner of Schachinger. The next time you’re there, I would recommend to pass by the newly opened bakery Julius Brantner - I‘m sure you’ll love their bread too as it fits right in with everything you do. Their sourdough is make with high quality ingredients and is made by hand in their bakery!
Also, thank you for opening my eyes to some of the stores you showed. I didn’t know of the Eisenblätter hat store and will definitely check them out as well as those socks from schuster. Having grown up in kenya, I get so cold very winter even after all the years I have lived here. And I think I’ve shopped at literally very store except the hat store! 😅☺️

Oof - you are also reminding me that I haven't been to Schachinger in ages - thank you!
The only one you "missed" from my list are Radspieler (fab interior products in a gorgeous old Altbau) and Kustermann (great for kitchen gear and the little cake cafe inside is a hidden gem - sooooooo good and the owners are so sweet!)

You could just leave me in that art supply store... but I'll visit Astrid's hat store first! And maybe follow that with a meal of my fave - wiener schnitzel! And I might have to go to that household products store. Everything looks like such high quality. Yummm. I'd travel with you any day, Rajiv.

The scnitzel looked amazing! I had one in Vienna once. It was comparably delicious, but I felt that it needed gravy to be optimum. Thank you for the video!

Gravy! No no. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice is the thing to use. You want to heighten the taste, not drown it.
