Have only been enjoying your Time Team episodes for the couple of years!!! They are all wonderful! I am hooked! I was wondering if Tony had a background in archeology or is he like a sponge and has absorbed all his knowledge for earlier episodes!!!
He's most famous as an actor and a presenter. He was Baldrick in Blackadder in the 1980s. He's not a professional archeologist, but he's gathered an incredible collection of knowledge over his lifetime.
I think he met Mick Aston while taking a course on archaeology (assuming because he was interested in the subject), and when Mick was putting together the show, he suggested Tony be presenter. So Tony has more knowledge than he pretends, but isn't quite the professional. He's just very good at playing "the uninformed/critical viewer" without sounding condescending or fake.
I wish there was a modern version of time team..can imagine what they can show with all the newest technology and the use of current 3D programs to re create renderings. It would be amazing!
Some sites have been revisited; all of them still have stories to tell. What made Time Team really special in this aspect is that each episode's work was thoroughly documented in a professional archaeological report. A comment and a question: I don't know when this was shot, but it must be quite old. I was at Kew at least 8 years ago, and the kitchen house was completely and immaculately restored - well worth seeing. The staff told us the "Dutch" house was the palace, and never mentioned the White House Palace - I don't think they knew about it. Am wondering if anyone knows if the White House in Washington D.C. is named after this palace? The American one has the same appearance in architectural style and also color. George lll was King during American Revolution. The American White House would've been built during the time that George lll was still living there. Surely this wasn't a coincidence? Does anyone know?
I'm 3 minutes in and when they showed the sketch of the palace, my first thought was of The White House. But it wasn't until 1901 (?) that President Roosevelt officially named the US "Presidential Palace", The White House. It would be interesting to dig into that more!
In addition to NCmonkeygirl, the White House wasn't white until after it was burned by the British in the war of 1812. It was painted white to hide the smoke damage. It was originally a pink marble.
So this one is about mad king Gorge the III, the King who lost the empire. As an American, I am glad he did, we would never have gotten the internet so I could watch Time Team on RUclips. xD

Also the digventures which Phill mentions is also official, and a lot of time team regulars appear there as speakers. If I remember correctly Tony Robinson hosted a time team Q&A on that channel not so long ago.
@ginkarasu. If I ad any idea of what you speak, I would dated already done it.
@ ginkarasu what "verified symbol?" There is nothing next to the channel on my screen.
@@playme129 Are you watching on smartphone? Because on pc, you see the "√" symbol next to the channel name.
Fifteen children? Well, it's nice to know he had a hobby...
Jonathan Foyle looked so young here
First aired March 2, 2003.
@@Joeybagofdonuts76 100 % correct. It was so named by Dolly Madison when it was white washed.
GEORGE THE THIRD SOUNDED LIKE A WONDERFUL BLOKE INNIT...UNTIL HE GONE MAD LOL
So this one is about mad king Gorge the III, the King who lost the empire. As an American, I am glad he did, we would never have gotten the internet so I could watch Time Team on RUclips. xD
Habis ya?? 😊😇
Jonathon was quite the well studied Architectural Expert and ... he was (likely still is) "Easy on the Eyes" aka "a Hottie", a casual reference as said among "the girls", here in the USA.

I love time team...
The bit where Tony says "can I come in your trench Phil?" 😂
Because early on, he didn't ask, when the trench was being cleaned, and Phil yelled at him
Others have gotten in the same trouble
I would have recommended Jonathan Foule, as Host for the "New Time Team".
The gentleman they chose is a fabulous Host, but following Tony in that role, the Viewers were so accustomed to the concentrated energy of his pace, the Narrative he did, and the manner of Editing, the latter 2 points are the Program's feel, its Style.
Key to the Success of the New Show rests on this value and its inspiring draw.
Again, I really like the new Host, but feel his natural gifts are far better suited for Higher Arts Productions.
Respectfully offered, Jonathon is the Obvious Key to the "New Time Team's" success.

I still want to have a pint of bitters with Phil...ok, perhaps several pints of ESB...
I also would enjoy a conversation with Phil. Virginia in Ohio
With all that hand digging I wonder if he spells his name "Fill".
I had a friend that used to shoplift at grocery stores- his name was "Nick".
I recognize that garden. 🤔 felix and marzia married there.😅
