DIY Beach Fishing Cart From Harbor Freight Hauls My Kayak

  • I built a beach cart that mounts on the car, hauls gear, hold fishing rods, mounts on my kayak, stabilizes my kayak with its wheels and hauls my kayak around!! Oh yeah it also guarantees I will land big sharks from the surf! So far this cart has visited OBX and Isle Of Palms and it is still going strong! If you would like to see more details from this cart build message in the comments. Thanks to all the other people on RUclips who have built carts similar to this in the past, nice work and great idea!

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  2 года назад

      Awesome I can try to put up another video with a bit more build detail soon, unfortunately the beach footage was auto deleted. I do like this size and think they are likely a bit better going through rough areas like truck ruts but I’m sure the slightly smaller ones would work great too. Getting the air pressure right made a big difference, I actually went too low at first. The air pressure just needs to be adjusted for the load.

    What diameter hole is on wheel for axle? Did you say the tires are 13 in? Thanks. I want to order the correct wheels for my cart. Does Harbor frt. Have the axles.

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  8 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks! The handle is all pvc, the axle hole on wheel was just under 1” I used 3/4 conduit from hardware store for axle. 13” wheels should work well I have some linked in the description if that helps. I may suggest getting wheels and measuring before buying axle. Also here is a link to the other build videos. ruclips.net/p/PLF5HrTxe8NrSKYGUm_oVTeKb4YUNCrVFm&si=ub6enddt2bTNtOk7

I don't need the big wheels but I would like pneumatic tires as during the winter I night fish from a long wooden dock that has a light at the end. Hard plastic on the dock makes a lot of noise. would you change anything if you were to build this cart again?

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  Год назад

      Good question! One thing I would change would be the adjustable bolts that hold the cart frame to the hitch. I would suggest grinding the unused threads smooth, it does hang up just a little sometimes when removing. That would also allow for a slightly smaller hole to keep it even tighter on the hitch. Overall it has worked well and better than expected under load while using as a cargo carrier.

    That's a good idea with your beach cart maks it multi purpose. I have built 2 fishing carts 1 electric and 1 you just push it along.
    Have a great day.

    I love it. So many things you can use it for and a lot cheaper than many other carts you see for just a beach cart. Think I would add a way to put a ground anchor when I'm fishing for big sharks, Hate to see it take off into the surf especially if I'm sitting on top of it! But I guess why you have a drag on the reel!

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  Год назад +1

      Thanks! It does dig in pretty well when you get a strike but I’m sure a decent shark would drag that thing to the deep haha

    Do these wheels roll good on soft sand?

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  Год назад

      Yes they do roll really well on soft sand. The air pressure in tires makes a huge difference, they are made to have low pressure but if you run them too soft they don’t roll well.

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  9 месяцев назад

      I fished for shark in SC a couple times, made a bait deployment boat for it that ended up working pretty good, I’ll put a build video of that up by spring. Nothing over 5’ yet though.

    That looks really good! It woud be nice to have a break down on the cost of the bilid. Those are really nice wheels! Where you get those?

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  Год назад +1

      Hey thanks! I did put a parts list in descriptions but will try to add prices next time I do a build. I believe it cost me around $250. I was able to get those (unbranded) wheels used on eBay but there are some decent options on Amazon.

    THis is an awesome build! Exactly what I was looking to do, can you show a bit about how you built your handle, and how it fastens in and pops out and back in? your handle looks much better than most that I have seen ,and im struggling to figure out how to build the handle.
    I havent purchased the balloon tires yet, I bought some cheap harbor freight ones, hoping they will be sufficient for this trip to FL, but I see another comment that they are terrible.

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  2 года назад +1

      Hey Shawn, thanks!! I will try to film some of the handle construction more closely for you, it did take me a couple tries to figure out. It is nice the handle pops out easy and I can throw in cart. Yeah the tires are pretty key, wish they were cheaper! Good luck

    I built one and used it the first time this week...much different from your version and used harbor freight tires... do not use! They felt like I had the brakes on as soon as I hit the sand lol actually worked awesome but using it for the family cart mine was loaded down and getting it back in the receiver was a bit frustrating so I will have to do something different for that next time..I did like how you totally dismount from the hitch plate that would save ankles and weight lol

    • @zekeshandles
      @zekeshandles  2 года назад

      That’s awesome! If you set it up like mine I would suggest grinding the threads smooth on the pins that hold it to hitch, mine hangs up a bit sometimes. Thanks!
