People usually portray war as something glorious, but they had yet to portray it from the point of a man who watched how his fellow soldiers were decimated and his land taken over. Reznov began by moving Petrenko, and together they avenged the massacre.
For me, it’s not the limbs falling off that was brutal, it was the birds picking at dead near the fountain, and the Nazis shooting the remaining survivors. It completely sums up WW2; just f*cked up Now, they don’t even have the balls to add Swastika symbols...
Shoots him square in chest: "You've only wounded him!" Shoots him again in chest: "You just grazed him!" Literally scuffs his uniform sleeve: "Good hunting!"
That is incredibly accurate as far as Call of Duty games go. I was in a multiplayer match one time and had the CheyTac 408 bolt action rifle and shot a guy in the center of his forehead and he did not die.
It's better to sidestep Once going over towards the shade and just wait until the enemy soldier sniper comes along to the same window. It's an excellent tactic. I found out a even better tactical advantage. Just crouch nearby the book shelf on the left side in the shade and wait for the enemy sniper to get to the window. It makes it heaps easier

Definitely not the best, that honor belongs to Call of Duty 2. NOT Modern Warfare 2, just Call of Duty 2. That's a WWII game, and came out way back in 2005. First with the modern health system, and surprisingly open and non-linear, with multiple strategies for a ton of places, even in otherwise linear levels. (Hint- if you have to use dialog saying there's a non-linear path to the nest objective, your game is already too linear) Both a long campaign and the only one to feature a British campaign that's NOT special forces. It was their first game with a particle system, and there's times I've had trouble seeing the target through the smoke from an exploding grenade and either heavy snow or even just a slight mist. Also, since the levels are pretty open, the Germans are SMART. Unlike in World at War. Smartest of any of them, and never plays the same way twice. Heck, in one playthough of one level, AI allies (non scripted to boot) saved my bacon half a dozen times. (Middle of reloading and - "oh hell, jerry standing in front of me" - ally shoots him). Or seeing a jerrry suddenly charge me screaming as I have to reload. Or an ally screaming "die" and clobbering one. And a colossal battle chatter system. (It actually pays to listen, and one time it was "jerries, behind us," and my thoughts were something along the lines of "what!" That doesn't happen every time. Also for the Germans too, and you learn the German word got 'grenade' soon enough.) And a gigantic amount of scripted animations for polish, some that I still keep discovering for the first time. And after playing one level on veteran with the sound on the headphones a notch higher than usual, it took two hours to fully come down afterwards. Doesn't look all that bad, actually, with everything cranked to the max, and since it's now literally a decade old, just about any computer can play with everything on it's maximum settings. Might look just as good as a much more recent game with the settings turned down for a modest computer. I was able to crank everything just fine on a 2008 laptop, so likely just about anything can. Forgotten gem, in my opinion, and doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

9:43 I love this part so much. There are so many games where your allies split up off to unseen areas, to "provide cover" or something along those lines in relative peace, while your in the thick of it almost getting killed every 10 seconds. But this time, *_you_* are those allies in relative peace while your team gets destroyed. It's awesome.
The first thing this game does to you when you open it up is put you in a situation where you're about to die. The difference between the American and Russian campaigns however is staggering and is reflective in their titles: "Semper Fi" vs "Vendetta." "Semper Fi" is short for "Semper Fidelis" which means "Always Loyal" and is reflected in being saved by your comrades. "Vendetta" is reflective of the fact that you survive out of pure spite and join the first asshole you see in killing the man responsible. Both of which set the tone for the war very well. Vendetta I think has the best imagery of any cod game to date because you're in fountain, surrounded by bodies, two fellow soldiers barely alive being executed, and bombers flying overhead with everything destroyed around you. It may be night, but the interpretation I favor is that it is actually day, and the smoke is so thick that it's blocking out the sun. You are in what amounts to a hellscape, yet nonetheless you survive.
In the beginning of the mission you see lots of Russian soldiers dead, if that's the case how can they attack Germany in the next mission if lots of they're soldiers died
+Kahlo kahlow The general sniping part was so hectic for me on the Wii, i was really nervous, and finally on the third shot i got him on the car right when he was about to escape.
In my opinion, this was the best Call of Duty release of all time. The atmosphere was perfect throughout. It has never been matched since. Black Ops wasn't bad but it had nothing on this.
Back than when COD was not a game aiming for children, but showed the brutality of war, made a glorious and very good campaign. At least MW 2019 was not a children game.
I love how the Special Operations game type is actually very challenging. I would not be surprised if they patched it to make it easier for all the losers out there. I remember a lot of people complaining about how "too difficult" it was.
I loved this game as a kid, and I remember back when I was in 5th grade (2015-2016). I was addicted to this video because the gameplay was so good Out of all the COD, waw gameplays, this one will forever remain my favorite. Thank you for the memories.
Everything about this game was amazing. The soundtrack fits the time of the game itself and the campaign was brilliant + the introduction too the best game mode ever Zombies was just electric.
Majestic Muller Majestic this wasn't creepy the beginning of it was sad, but it was realistic, intense and one of the best missions I've played in a call of duty game
It wasn't creepy it was just sad in the beginning cause at first you think your the only survivor and you see all you men die around you and with the sad music makes it even more sad but it was creepy cause this was the first mission you play as pretenko and you already see you men dying around you
I feel like it's more respectful to have video games so bloody and gritty. Really can help to immerse us in what people went through (Just like everyone else I revisited this game during quarantine lol)
Mark Pugh well yes, Stalin literally sent his men out there with nothing; no preparation, no plan, no tactics. He basically said “Get the hell outside, right into the battlefield!”
I honestly don't know what the hell Howling is speaking about....Commanders led the battlefield and did efficient tactics in the U.S.S.R. Nor did they send them out without nothing because you CANNOT win a war without all those doesn't matter the numbers.
sorry it sounded harsh but the only person who charged into battle was China and Japan who military's were kind of poor but the early Red Army was poor in power just not like 1945 Japan who did nothing but Banzai into enemy positions only smart tactic they used was Guerrilla Warfare which is very deadly in its self. Soviet Union had a pretty poor military IN 1940-Early 1942 that's until late 1942-1943 came and it all came down hill for the Germans.
Man the opening for this mission is so real. Watching your friends and fellow soldiers die around you while you have to play dead to avoid being killed.
Don’t know if anyone has already commented this or even noticed but right around 7:157:16 the sound of the door reznov opens is the same as the zombies mystery box opening
Yeah, i'd like to see another ww2 call of duty. If they actually did this I would probably play call of duty again. All the new games they make have too many killstreak rewards and all this other crap...For me COD WaW was the best, ground war was just epic and the tanks added to the experience. xD
This is back when the developers of Cod had Balls and wasn't afraid to show true history and respect everyone who witnessed, served and died in the war.
Amazing how after all these years of playing cod, i can only think of a few other missions from all the other titles that still make me feel chilled to the core when replaying these classic missions. Fuckin Masterpiece ❤❤
This whole game is a masterpiece but THIS LEVEL omg this level is dripping with atmosphere it is as gritty dark and just depressing as Stalingrad this level is goated
I've always loved the intro to the this part of the campaign. In the beginning of the mission vendetta you see your comrades being put down like rats by the Germans makes me feel as if I was in the war.
I remember my Mother was annoyed by the first few missions because of it's unholy sound of non sensical violent shooting... But when this came on especially hooked to surround sound: She became invested and was in awe during the entire mission. Even clapped when I killed the Sniper! Good times!
This mission makes me a little emotional now that I think about it, it may be just a game but if you think about it this was the exact situation in WW2 it may not have happened exactly like this but it was very similar I'd imagine... If you didn't know the battle of Stalingrad (this mission) was the most important war in wwii and it just makes me think of the horrors the Russians went through
Some parts of this game, especially the Russian campaign, really are extremely gritty, eerie and haunting. This game had a totally different atmosphere to every other CoD game. I also think it did a really good job of presenting the sadness and horrors of war.

Gary oldman fucking killed this role. brilliant actor
One of the best ,he should be reznov in a live action movie,he is Reznov.
First 4 min reminds me of the movie "Enemy at the Gates".
Think that's the point, was looking for a comment saying this, They pretty much nailed it!
James Quinn The first bit was inspired by enemy at the gates when it was being developed
Martin Walker probably is
6:48 " you only wounded him"
it was fuckin clear chest shot
Veteran mode for you.
In the beginning of the mission you see lots of Russian soldiers dead, if that's the case how can they attack Germany in the next mission if lots of they're soldiers died
DreadedGhoul575 ya I remember beating this whole game on veteran. I actually felt accomplished lol easily the hardest COD ever
BadMoonRising92 Nice job. :D
***** I DONT THINK THEY HAVE ARMOR THOU
this has to be the bloodiest and goriest CALL OF DUTY GAME EVER
At that time yes
+Nuke Fest still is?
+benno_m8 yes
Its beast af too
+benno_m8 Black Ops series surpassed World at War in terms of gore now they're the contenders now
The beggining of the mission was so sad
Memories....... I played A SHIT LOT on the wii. I just couldn't stop. It was so absorbing.
I first played this on the Wii but then got it on Xbox
I remember playing this mission over and over and over on the Wii
+Kahlo kahlow Same!!! Felt so weird finally playing on the ps3- playing blackcats for the first time, so fun both ways
+Ben Starkey yes same
+Kahlo kahlow The general sniping part was so hectic for me on the Wii, i was really nervous, and finally on the third shot i got him on the car right when he was about to escape.
1:40 this sound always scared me
Aren’t you suppose to be in New Orleans?
frfr
Can you believe Gary Oldman voiced Reznov?
@ANONYMOUS No he voiced Shen the peacock in kung fu panda 2
That was Dustin Hoffman
Gary Oldman - Sirius Black from Harry Potter
i may be late, but im buying this game this week lol ^^
Always late, then never!
Also ordered it, arrives tomorrow! PS3?
Don't even bother its FULL of hackers...
Yeah i noticed :(
Saber klooster ㅗ몸 ㅑ ㅏㅜ재 갸홋 ㅑㅅㄴ ㅁㅈ녀ㅣ!
The memories... Masterpiece of a mission
ikr
In my opinion, this was the best Call of Duty release of all time. The atmosphere was perfect throughout. It has never been matched since. Black Ops wasn't bad but it had nothing on this.
Back than when COD was not a game aiming for children, but showed the brutality of war, made a glorious and very good campaign. At least MW 2019 was not a children game.
Looks like Cold War is heading the same route! 😃
I love how the Special Operations game type is actually very challenging. I would not be surprised if they patched it to make it easier for all the losers out there. I remember a lot of people complaining about how "too difficult" it was.
I loved this game as a kid, and I remember back when I was in 5th grade (2015-2016). I was addicted to this video because the gameplay was so good
Out of all the COD, waw gameplays, this one will forever remain my favorite. Thank you for the memories.
Really felt like you were in the war, great eerie music love this game
+Josh Sam anan
This is so epic.
Everything about this game was amazing. The soundtrack fits the time of the game itself and the campaign was brilliant + the introduction too the best game mode ever Zombies was just electric.
who else thinks that this was the most creepiest mission in call of duty history
especially in the intro.
Majestic Muller Majestic this wasn't creepy the beginning of it was sad, but it was realistic, intense and one of the best missions I've played in a call of duty game
It wasn't creepy it was just sad in the beginning cause at first you think your the only survivor and you see all you men die around you and with the sad music makes it even more sad but it was creepy cause this was the first mission you play as pretenko and you already see you men dying around you
12 years has passed since this game was released and i still remember every quote Reznov made in this mission
4:42 that part always gives me the chills along with the ost stalin push
best ww2 game
Indeed the second best world war 2 game is finest hour
this is how you portray ww2.
MrGullisYT So true
Best mission in the game I love it, I still play the campaign.
Every time I'm disappointed at some point of my life, I remember sniping that nazi sniper and it gives me a kink positive energy to keep pushing !!
I remember that “Ssshhh” scene, I was like “Oh shit, wtf?”. I had to restart to see if he was there the whole time.
I feel like it's more respectful to have video games so bloody and gritty. Really can help to immerse us in what people went through
(Just like everyone else I revisited this game during quarantine lol)
Russia lost the most men in ww2
Mark Pugh USSR*
Mark Pugh well yes, Stalin literally sent his men out there with nothing; no preparation, no plan, no tactics. He basically said “Get the hell outside, right into the battlefield!”
Howling what you are saying is terribly stupid
The mosin Nagant is the best rifle in the game
Mosin Nagant is the best because of the recoil and firepower . While m1 grand is the worst
PTRS-41.
Barrett .50 of that time xD
lol ptrs better than mosin
Erwin Rommel lol PTRS - anti tank riffle.
Kar98
This game respected how cruel and dirty war really is. It didn't really ice a lot down.
I don't think a game will ever top an intro to a level like this one. God I miss the old CoDs.
Anyone else play this game on the Wii when they were younger
The wii had no zombies which is disappointing...
Haha yes. I actually enjoyed playing this game on Wii. Sadly no zombies :(
+Ben Starkey Yes!
Omg yes haha, I got to 10th prestige before I got a 360. Best cod ever. Always will be
+Ben Starkey yes me too it was very fun back then
Years later I watched enemy at the gates and realized where this level got it's inspiration from lol
Vendetta is the best mission in Call of Duty history. So gritty and sets the tone for revenge perfectly.
Man the opening for this mission is so real. Watching your friends and fellow soldiers die around you while you have to play dead to avoid being killed.
Don’t know if anyone has already commented this or even noticed but right around 7:15 7:16 the sound of the door reznov opens is the same as the zombies mystery box opening
The WWII based CoD`s are the best these new ones.....suck
the whole "modern" thing is so overdone
Yeah, i'd like to see another ww2 call of duty. If they actually did this I would probably play call of duty again. All the new games they make have too many killstreak rewards and all this other crap...For me COD WaW was the best, ground war was just epic and the tanks added to the experience. xD
EODFLASH BRING BACK WW2 BRING BACK WW2 BRING BACK WW2
say it with me dude
Gideon Amare WORLD WAR 2! WORLD WAR 2! WORLD WAR 2!
ExpertiseMarksman
It's sad but it's true. There are 10 year olds playing Call of Duty...I personally haven't played CoD in years now. :S
"Sniping your enemy is like hunting any other animal."
*fire at the wrong moment and your chance will be forever lost*
Patience. If we reveal our position to Amsel’s men, this fountain will be our grave.
Now load your rifle but hold your fire wait until the bombers are overhead the sounds of their engine's will drain out your shots
Ready SHOOT NOW!
@@joshuaholmes1313
Again!
6:17 - "Wait, Barry Allen is helping us now?"
*Stronghold* "I prefer the real stealth mission."
*All Ghillied Up* "I said the real stealth mission."
*Vendetta* "Perfection."
That ain’t stealth, it’s a real sniping mission
Vendetta was partial stealth but all ghillied up actually let you be unseen from start to finish
For three days i have hunted him, for three days luck has saved his wretched life...
The game that was released in 2008 still looks better than many 2015 games... WTF
This is back when the developers of Cod had Balls and wasn't afraid to show true history and respect everyone who witnessed, served and died in the war.
The Russian campaign was something else man. That intro is chilling
I played this game when I was like 9 or 10 and it haunted me for a while it still does... especially this mission
M19 dude same here and when I graduated I thought back to roebucks speech on the last American mission.
This campaign showed the true horrors of war by far the best campaign out of all the cods . This mission alone is a masterpiece
"Mudak" ("Мудак") in Russian means "Fucker".
+Євгеній Устименко oh, ok
thanks for the explanation
thanks
Cyort what means?
4:14 what means that word
@evilphoenix 007 tkx
Price : **"ON YOUR FEET SOLDIER! WE ARE LEAVING!!!"**
Reznov : **"Here my friend! TAKE MY HAND!"*
The music was so good in this game
0:41 - 1:31 when my parents are checking to see if I’m sleep
I've always loved the intro to the this part of the campaign. In the beginning of the mission vendetta you see your comrades being put down like rats by the Germans makes me feel as if I was in the war.
Everytime i watch that opening it gives me chills EVERYTIME!
This game is a masterpiece
I remember my Mother was annoyed by the first few missions because of it's unholy sound of non sensical violent shooting...
But when this came on especially hooked to surround sound: She became invested and was in awe during the entire mission.
Even clapped when I killed the Sniper! Good times!
That lady singing still gets me to this day
U still play cod world at war?
@@loky3037 hell yea
8:42 Dimitri: Reznov weren't you behind me? Reznov: Alright, how did I do that.
This mission makes me a little emotional now that I think about it, it may be just a game but if you think about it this was the exact situation in WW2 it may not have happened exactly like this but it was very similar I'd imagine... If you didn't know the battle of Stalingrad (this mission) was the most important war in wwii and it just makes me think of the horrors the Russians went through
Beautiful mission that expressed the atttoricties of Stalingrad. Well done
Playing this mission with loud headphones on is enough to give you PTSD. You hear everything.
I still believe this one of the best portrayals of the Battle of Stalingrad ever in video game history.
Definitely is
