    Hopefully you're into drumming, as we've got a pile of trivial facts on 'Whiplash'. It's actually a small indie film, but was so well received it ended up with three Oscars. The picture was directed by Damien Chazelle who was still in his twenties when he created the film. At first Damien couldn't get the project financed, so he made a short film and submitted it into the Sundance film festival. There it won an award and soon after he found financiers for a full length picture. With a budget of just three million dollars they shot and edited 'Whiplash' in only ten weeks. Still, the concert scenes were surprisingly big shoots.

    • @LeroyzkiSmithsonian
      @LeroyzkiSmithsonian Месяц назад

      He didn’t. It would’ve been impossible for Miles to actually play what’s on the score because jazz drummers practice years, and even decades to become that good. Miles did his best to keep up for the camera, but the actual drums you hear the movie isn’t him.

    I'm a drummer of 16 years... I can tell you that I've had my fair share of blood blisters from drumming, but it's an indication of poor technique if you're getting blisters. With that said... it helps the drama of this movie to have stuff like that happen. Miles's technique is a bit poor, BUT to the untrained eye, it's 100% believable. Plus, 3-4 hours of work to improve you skills for this movie, and to get to this point, Major congrats to him!

    • @TheWitchOvAgnesi

      I'll confirm everything you said, especially the part about poor technique.

      Small budget films are sometimes the best of the best. If you look at "Deadpool" for example, it's better than all the marvel and dc superhero movies combined, and it was made on a 5 million dollar budget. Then compare to Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was made for over a 400 million dollar budget, and it ended up being the absolute worst movie I have seen in ages, or probably ever.

      Sidy Baldé Well, the performance of Affleck was OK, but I disliked how Batman was given obvious super strength (which the character isn't supposed to have) as well as made into a borderline villain. Batman's supposed to be intelligent but paranoid, not bloodthirsty and brutal.
      I get it's a more gritty take on the character, but it just seems like it's being pushed a bit too far.

    I still get triggered at the "drumming till you bleed" thing. Because with a good grip technique that just wont happen.
    When I still had bad technique I would get blisters all the time and if I kept going then they would get bloody and eventually pop and yeah then there was blood everywhere.
    But then I got a new teacher and we worked on a proper gripping technique und since then I have never gotten any bloody blisters again. Even normals blisters aren't so frequent anymore. And I now play somewhere between 2 to 3,5 hours when I actually get behind the drumset.
    So while in the movie the blood thing shows us that he is really dedicated and practices a lot, it also shows how he doesn't have a good technique to prevent that.
    Still an enjoyable movie though
