- In this video I demonstrate a really cool spray paint trick to create this awesome nebula sparkle finish using spray cans and dry glitter. I love this trick and I hope you guys will too.
All you need for this is your clear coat, some fine sparkle/glitter, and of course the appropriate safety equipment.

I love how rock music is playing as he's sprinkling glitter, great video brad
This would have also worked with some Freddy Mercury.😎
I was thinking the same thing 🤣
SDR101 - what is the song called?
Everyday Showday 'Get back in the game' by Clandestyne
HEY BRAD, your the best man, I just gave my boy the guitar , that I painted with the nitrocellulose paint that I watched you do, he was so impressed and happy with the guitar, THANKS A MILLION, one sad pathetic guitar turned into something that made my son so happy , now that's worth a million bucks.... thanks again man.
I’m so happy to hear that. That’s fantastic. Thanks for taking the time to tell me.
That Spraymax 2k stuff is AMAZING. Yes you have to cover up seriously but it builds REALLY easily! Totally worth $20 a can.
Great lesson!.. I researching methods to paint my bike and this video has my mind spinning with ideas. Thanks for "over explaining" its way better than only getting half the intfo.
Glad you liked it
I hate being a stickler, but being a painter i have to say this. The sparkle and glitter turned out much better than i expected. The clear though, that was rough. If it were me, id put about 3, or even 4 more coats (since its spray cans) then cut and polish smooth. It may sound like a lot for little, but it will add so much clarity to the depth of your nebula
Towards the beginning, he says that he is going to put on a few more coats in a few days. Good catch though, most people wouldn't think about it.
More coats and a proper cut and polish would be absolutely necessary to turn this into a proper finished product.
You had me at Pink Taco! 🤣
I like my tacos pink.
Looks really cool, I'm a painter who does custom bikes, I get a similar effect with a big air cap 1.8 and put the glitter in the clear, then give it 2 more coats, I like to use it over flip flop paints, it really pops when the sun hits, or spotlights, I've done some plain black wheels and just put glitter in the top coats, that shows up in light but just looks black when in the shade, very popular locally with guys into modding there cars.
Great idea, especially just using a rattle can.
Thanks Anthony. This would be very interesting over chameleon paint. I’ll have to give that a try.
A sifter or a salt or pepper shaker works great too
You can also combine the different glitters in a single process.
@@antoniop1968 possibly put the black glitter down first, couple coats of clear, then go with the other colors...?
Perfect timing! I got a guy asking me to build him an Eko Rocket style in silver galaxy sparkle. Now I know just how to build him his dream guitar! Thanks, Brad+
Glad I could help!
Thats was great, just refurbished a BC Rich warlock, my first rebuild and I’m still learning to play to
Hey you just gave me an awesome idea because I'm gonna paint my car n do a mural on my hood of a galaxy..n the glitter technique really come into play ..my aunt was always saying I got glitter n I was like wth? Why would i do glitter ...NOW I GET IT !...thanks bro..oh ..I mean...pink taco 😉
you know Brad you are actually over explaining but it always helps us. So keep it up😘😘😘
More great tips again, Brad. Thank you!
I've noticed that in the UK, we can get small bags of the "glitter" that you mix into your paint before either brushing it on or loading it into a spray bottle.
This technique you've used here would be ideal for this product (although I've only seen it in gold or silver).
You can probably find dry pearl or mica powder that would work well over there as well.
Way cool! Favorite so far! Even the music 🎶
Thank you
Your effort is admirable, but you seem to have mastered the art of orange peel finishes.
Hahaha yeah, I’m obviously not going to add another 3 coats and then cut and polish this one. That would just be more paint that I would have to strip off afterward.
Beautiful. Now i know how I am going to paint my explorer bass
Beautiful result here; thx for the info!!
Thank you
Looking good Brad
That is looking different and keep it with many more different colours of sparkle on any parts cheers
Oh man I just got my guitar kit and this is the perfect colors to go with.
Excellent
Best finish so far, love this and would love to see it over a candy color next time! This WILL be my next guitar finish! Silver-ish, some light candy color, color changing sparkle, Telecaster with a maple neck and the same sparkle treatment on the headstock! Ooouu, just got goosebumps...
In case anyone was curious. The banger song is Get Back In The Game by Forslund Svensson.
This is your best finish ever. Great job!
I’m glad you like it!
I used this technique on my rims... gold base with gold and white glitter... came out amazing!!! My rims look dipped in 24kt gold!!!
Sounds badass
I'll hold off on the pink taco, I already got one of those (ha!). But now I gotta find something to nebula, that looks awesome!
I hope it goes well for you.
Ok, that is by far the coolest spray - can job so far Brad. That would look really awesome on a bedroom ceiling. Anyway, very creative.
Oh man, that would be super cool, but you would end up with an absolutely insane amount of sparkle on the ground.
@@BradAngove Haha...
I normally spray glitter mixed with thinned out clear but your method seems a whole lot simple
Cheers
That’s more the typical method. If you have a gun with a large nozzle, spraying it is a great option. Probably the preferable one.
Nice vid. But correct me if I'm wrong if that's a 3m respirator your intake filters are backwards brotha. I've been wrong before but I believe the writing/text states mask side. Anywho guitar looks great man thanks for the video man
On my half mask they are writing in. On this one this is how they came and I haven’t bothered to change them yet haha. I’ll have to check
The music in this video is the best I've heard in your videos. Who is this? Also this would look even more amazing with the color change paint.
It’s from Epidemic Sound. I’m not sure who the artist is.
Gave me a great idea on how I want to do my panels for my 04 impala appreciate the blessings
Remarkable job bro. I'm redoing my bike. I'm going to do it blue metallic paint with silver and green sparkle in it. I can't wait to do it this end of bike riding season. I take pictures and send them yo you for sure.
Cheers Kev
Nice. Would like to see after clear and polish.
So sick. Love the color and sparkle.
I think I'm going to give this a try in a much different way. I'll start out the way you did, with a flat black primer, then a coat of clear as you did, and then add only the black glitter. I'll then follow up with another coat of clear and another layer of glitter, and repeat 2, 3 or 4 times with a different color each time. This will give a lot of depth for a bar top. Instead of finishing with more clear spray paint, I'll finish with a crystal clear 2 part epoxy that is designed for bar top applications.
Should be cool. You’ll need the epoxy because the rest will be so thick it will be difficult for it to harden properly.
Pink taco kills me too
please show this after sand and polish.
Unfortunately he stripped the paint job in another video.
@@carvinblack This paint job is still there actually. I plan to do a sand and polish on it do demo some new polish.
@@BradAngove Ahh ok. I saw you putting the paint remover paste on the finish in the other video and I had to turn it off because I didn't want to witness the nice job being ruined. Lol. You actually inspired me to do a sparkle job on my old 90's Crate 212 Speaker Cabinet. If I could bend your ear? The cabinet is particle board. I am using Rustoleum for all paint. So I did a bunch of Primer/Sealer. Now I am onto the Metallic base coat. Should I wet sand the Metallic before I do the sparkle or just wait till after the clear coat. I think I saw in another video that you don't have to buff base coat if you sanded. Thanks man. BTW the Metallic isn't super textured right now but I do have two more cans to spray.
Nice job. I've actually done about 6 guitars using a similar technique but fully flaking it. It takes a lot of work clearing it but look great when completed.
I know this comment is old af, but that sounds so cool! Do you have pics? Either a link or that you could upload to RUclips. Would love to see how it turned out.
I am so glad to find out about your shop. That way I can support you and confirm my selections are good. I had specced out that full face mask previously - glad to see it has your approval. Will definitely buy through your link soon!
Thank you. I’ve found that mask very helpful.
Saw this and had to do it immediately LOL. Question for you Brad. I applied the extra fine sparkles a little heavy to have a really sparkling look. It’s heavy enough to feel the texture of the sparkles after a few coats of clear. I would like to get it as smooth as possible. In this video you recommended scuffing it after a few days and going on with a couple more coats. How would you go about polishing a sparkle finish and getting a thick enough coat to not feel the texture so much?
I don’t really mind the texture, but I don’t wanna have a glitter mess one day in my office LOL
Have a look at my video on how to build a thick clear coat.
That's radical never saw your Amazon link
I was thinking of doing this to my valve cover I had seen that they use this kind of glitter for those candy paint jobs lol so I figured use that same technique for my valve cover using hi temp primer and high temp clear coat to seal the flakes in i just didn't really know how to make the galaxy but now I do lol thanks a lot.
PRETTY COOL I HAVE A VITAGE TRIKE SEAT MADE OF FIBERGLASS MUD BUG MIGHT WORK GET IT WET ENOUGH TO THROW SPARKLE ON TOP
helllooooooo hottie! great bonus to watch on your videos! i am going to watch all of them now lol
Whoaaaa awesome only behind? Some video when you play it!
cant believe no one called you #SparkleBae yet. great job Brad!
Thanks Robbie.
I'm impressed Brad ! This is art. Nailed it. Respect.
Thank you sir.
Very nice, coincidentally I purchased that same brand sparkle dust at Walmart to do mine. I'm doing a Kramer Baretta body with a dark burgundy background paint with silver sparkle then am going to sunburst with black. Thanks for the video as it helps, I've painted many guitars over the years but never used sparkle dust. Now I know what to expect so thank you.
I hope yours goes well.
I wonder what this would look like on MDF with the clear poly base coat.. hmmm
Looking for ideas for my sun enclosure.
Great 🎸👍
I love the way any custom job looks once you apply the clear to it. Changes it up for the better big time!! Some bright white sprayed into a cup, stick your fingers in it and flick a little bit onto this after the glitter to make it look like some random stars would be awesome I think. But that's just my opinion, it looks bada$$ this way also!!
Thanks, I’m glad you like it.
Hay there Brad I was just winding if this process would work on a burst. I was thinking about using some Oxford lacquer or would there be a better way. I would like to see the quilted Maple top so transparent, I guess. What do you think? Thank you very much for answering my other question.
You could build it into the clear coat stages after a burst. It’ll take a while to get it leveled off with lacquer, but it’s certainly possible.
I was thinking maybe doing this to my rims, perhaps maybe mixing the purple and blue on my palm and with like a blow dryer aim it on my rim from a distance (x2) then sealing it with clear coat after?????
Cool idea
Beautiful job.
Thank you.
Thanks for the idea Brad. I'm not a big sparkle fan but this looks really cool! Thanks for sharing my friend!
Cheers Wallace.
Might attempt this on my motorbike fairings
Man, I've been working on my bass for 3-4 months and just got on your channel, and damn I want that "Galaxy paint" so bad, your content is so good and well explained! I can't wait to finish my bass with this Galaxy-nebula-space paint!
I’m glad you like it. I hope your paint job goes well.
Thanks Brad. Now I know what is going on the back of my Hondo/Explorer 12. First step, flat black? Did you mention something about a pearl? Have you done a video on doing a binding around the body? I decided on a Telecaster 12 string bridge and pickups this looks to be the simplest route. Intonation? I'll cross that one when I get there. This galaxy job will look great on the back with a top binding, and woodgrain on the top. Thanks again😁
Matte will work. I generally like to do my build coats with gloss. I haven’t done a video in binding.
@@BradAngove What would be the best looking base coat? Flat, or gloss.
Sorry for communicating through RUclips. I don't use any of the other social media.
No worries; I prefer communicating through RUclips. It doesn’t really matter whether you go gloss or matte for the base coat.
Could you use a popcorn salt shaker for the glitter application?
This is just standard Rustoleum clear since it’ll stay wet for a bit to grab the glitter, right?
Yes and yes
Wow!! This is siiiick!! Great job!
Thank you
Going to do this to my race car. Thank you
That sounds like a fun project
Im gunna do this on my a 7 string Harley Benton. I have an EMG 707 in the guitar so it plays like a gem.
Very nice,Brad..I was thinking, with extra fine sparkle, will it work if you put it in a salt or pepper shaker and sprinkle it on that way?...🤔
It should. You may have to widen the holes a bit, but there are other spice shakers with wider holes that would work too.
Loved the video!
I will look at your other videos but have you tried the different colored glitter on a lighter colored background, like silver? I'm thinking of painting my wheels but don't want them black even with the color glitter over the black. Thanks!
I haven’t got a video on that, but putting glitter on lighter backgrounds is fine. It’s just a different effect.
Can u do this to a car rim with the same spray paint and sparkles ......and can you use plasti dip to do this????
You should be able to do this but should use catalyzed clear coat to finish it.
You can’t mix plasti dip with paint. Plasti dip is rubber.
this was a very informative video. excellent job man. thank you
Thanks Patrick
Nebula Sparkles it is lovely I wanna buy one of these ✨
I'm building a barrel smoker was wondering if that would work on high temperature paint
I’m not sure how the glitter/flake would react to those temperatures.
you come in covered in glitter and wife or GF ask where have you been. Um Painting a custom guitar. yea right you where at a strip club. no really it was custom guitar.
She would probably be less likely to believe me if I said the strip club haha.
Wonderful! I d like to paint a strato rosegold Sparkle or champagne Sparkle. Should i use a dark color for the first coat in order to make glitters shine or i should go rosegold directly? Should i mix some gold glitters with rosegold glitters to make It more "sparkly"? Thanks!
For a better sense of how to basecoat something like that I think you should check out my tutorial on glitter paint jobs.
What would you use if you wanted a red sparkle as base you used black would white look better with red
That just depends on the effect you’re going for. You may want to consider a red base.
I would’ve added just a little white but it does look really amazing great job dude
It came out great! I like it. 😁
Thank you!
@@BradAngove you're welcome!
Use a salt shaker to put the glitter on
Move over Salt Bae. Glitter Boo has arrived! 🤣
It would work so you want get to much in one spot
That would work if you were aiming for a more event less “nebula-like” finish haha.
This is a cool trick. However, supposing the surface that you wish to paint is vertical, and cannot really be laid horizontal, what would be the best way, in your opinion, to accomplish this effect?
Would you have access to a paint gun with a large nozzle size?
@@BradAngove Not off hand. I think I see where you're going with that; the large nozzle size would accommodate glitter or metal flake. I'm sure that I could obtain such a device, and I'm fairly certain that my compressor could handle it, but there are a variety of reasons that I'd prefer not to go that route for now, which is why I'm looking at different rattle can tricks.
I have a trick for pearl in this really old video: ruclips.net/video/N3JWS0pLJWY/видео.html
I’m not really sure about adapting this glitter technique to a vertical surface though.
@@BradAngove I'll check it out; thank you.
I'm in no particular rush to start the project I have in mind, and in the mean time, I'm enjoying learning from videos like yours. So thank you for putting them out, and thank you for taking the extra time to respond, as well.
That's awesome! Just curious; what was the timing between coats? From the first clear coat, to putting the glitter on, and then from glitter to top coats?
Glitter was immediately after first coat of clear. Then a top coat ten minutes later and another ten minutes after that.
Thanks man!
EXELLENT 👍🏼💯 Thank for the tip
Is sparkle the right image for what is a heavy metal guitar ??? the matt black looked more apropriate...just a thought
I’m not too concerned about what may or may not be the right image for a scrap body.
Colour me impressed!
Nice job mate.
Thanks Mark
Another awesome Video. However, I have a question. You mentioned that the glitter can also be salt baed(Sprinkled) on the base coat, I’m assuming the final medium wet coat. So if I’m going to throw a couple Rustoleum Galaxy Blue Colorshift coats on top of a Matt black base coat, Will I be wasting my time adding the glitter on the black base coat or will it enhance the color shift on the galaxy blue paint coats? Maybe even throw more sparkle on the colorshift, who knows, you can’t ever have too much sparkle, right? Lol I would appreciate you’re professional advise. Thank you in advance. 🙏🏽
I would think the most logical option there is to put the glitter into your first coat of clear after the shift paint.
I agree Mr. Angove. I tried on one of my Ginny pig pieces and it doesn’t look right. Lol Can I send you a video of some of the pieces I’m working on, I really appreciate constructive criticism. I want to improve my spray painting skills to the point where I’m not sanding the same part down 3-4 times because I messed up. Lol
If you use the link to my Instagram in the description you can send me videos through the messages there.
Very Nice thanks.
Love this !!!
Is that a Bentley Series 10? Looks like plywood like the one I had back in the 80s. Been looking for another one.
Might be. I’m not sure.
I wonder how this would look on a white base
Really cool!!!! You're great! I need to do this! Just subscribed!
Thank you Rocklyn
Fab! Thank you!
When will you show us the polished version?
This is just a test body. I won’t be polishing it.
that's hella cool
Thanks
Curious to know if there are candy colours in can spray paint in North America. Thinking of the “samouraï” paint they have in Asia in spray cans.
House of Kolor does candy paints in spray cans. Duplicolor metal cast is also basically candy I think.
superb
Hi Brad, can I ask you a potentially silly question please.
I'm in the process of doing a similar finish to my Strat type body, I've got the base colour and I'm just smoothing it down with a buffer, duster & plenty of elbow grease! Now, when ready I plan to do a clear coat, glitter the hell out of it and add a few more coats, you say in your video to sand and then add final clear coats. Silly question, do you lightly sand then clear again or, lightly sand, polish the clear coat again.
Thanks in advance and thanks for the videos, you've been a great help.
Lightly sand and then clear coat. You can’t clear coat over polish. It won’t stick properly.
@@BradAngove thanks for the reply
I always learn something wathing your videos...my BIG problem is...I don't have this products in Brasil...cool video ...
I’m sure you have something similar available, no?
I want to spray paint my guitar with spray cans I want to do a snake skin effect can you show me on a video how to any help you can give me would be helpful I have to first strip the guitar down . Nice sparkle job know where I can get one done.
I’m not sure if there’s really a way to do that with spray cans, but there are some great snakeskin tutorials out there for airbrushing etc. Ed Hubbs did one years ago that you may want to take a look at.
Looks good
Thanks
Did the glitter add a texture that was raised too much? On the galaxy painting on my headless guitar, I used a glitter paint that raised it too much to make it smooth, but that doesn't seem to bother me too much, but will the raised section highlights make polishing a nightmare? The amount that these sections are raised are equivalent to the raised sections of a face on a coin.
Yes, it caused some substantial texture that would require several coats of clear to hide.
Thanks, that's where I was heading if I didn't hear from you (I'm amazed you even have time to answer these queries) now I know I'm heading in the right direction! Hopefully the guitar you are going against BigD is going good.
It’s going well so far. Luckily I’m pretty efficient at answering questions haha.
Came out great. Although not my personal style. It reminds me of a 1970's motorcycle helmet.
Question
I’m doing a purple sparkle finish using glitter, my paint/ primer is purple, after the purple I’ll add gloss as a top layer do I sprinkle the glitter while the paint is still wet? And after so I let it dry and apply another coat or sand it first
Sprinkle while it’s wet and add a coat or two of clear immediately. Let that dry and sand lightly. Then add more clear to work on burying the sparkle.
@@BradAngove what grit would be best
I would use 800 grit.
Have you ever used Design Master Colortool spray? It's meant to be used with flowers and I forget if I even asked you this before. Just curious...
I’m not familiar with that product.
I want to paint my car like this!! 👍
That sounds like quite the project haha.
@@BradAngove Im really considering doing it, I have an older car (78) that I don't drive that often, I'm in the beginning stages of painting it and I can't decide which way to go? I was going to do the whole car in satin black but lately I've seen a lot a cars getting around in flat black, I want to stand out a bit but I don't want to be a bright sparkling mass of metal.
Hey love the effect! Will be doing something similar in my car! But just got 1 question what’s the size of the glitter? You said extra fine is there not a specific mesure?
There’s no specific measure for this stuff because it literally came from a craft store haha. They don’t exactly tell you how many microns you’re dealing with.
@@BradAngove oh uff it’s that small tbh I will go for 0.3mm glitter
And thank you for your reply 🙏
Thank you so much . I plan to try your techniques on a couple of snare drums . Would this work on metal ?
There’s no reason it wouldn’t work on metal as long as your prep and prime it properly.
