I live in Illinois. Our taxes are so high, I only eat air 6 days of the week. All my hand washing, showers, and drinking water are from rain. My clothing is all found in dumpsters outside of thrift stores. Joking, but legit, I do OMAD, and I only eat at home around 6pm after I get off work. I do all my grocery shopping at Aldi. I typically eat out once a month max. I only drink water and coffee (only made at home). I have never once drank alcohol, smoked, or gambled, and I don’t do anything else that costs a lot of money. I wear only cheap simple clothes, and I wear them until they fall apart. I’ve had the same paid off cellphone since 2015, and my phone bill is $15 a month. I’ve cut my own hair since I was 11, and I’ve only been to a barber 4 times in my entire life. I drive a 2003 car that doesn’t have working windows, radio, or car horn, and I do my own oil changes. I do however buy 2-3 video games at Black Friday on sale every year, and I order takeout Chinese for my birthday. I don’t pressure my wife to be as intense as I am, but she’s decently frugal herself. My coworkers always think I’m crazy, but I take my wife on amazing vacations, and we travel to some amazing places every year, so she doesn’t complain. We all make choices and sacrifices to achieve the lifestyle we want.
The issue with amortizing, though, is that if you do it, then you need to amortize and add other expenses from the past too (like clothes, household items, and many other things that you buy once in a while or a few times a year). Might as well just keep your ad hoc items for the week as a proxy for average weekly ad hoc spending or just stick to talking about food/drinks and transportation expenses.
You’re killing it, Taylor. I’m almost a decade older than you living in the Midwest and I click on your videos as soon as I notice a new one. Your video style and humor make you so fun to watch. I see you reaching great heights on RUclips!

Love the math! One thing that wasn't mentioned that I think is a huge deal is the lack of car ownership, and how much money that saves. When people balk at urban living expenses, they often fail to calculate just how much is being saved by not driving everywhere. The average American spends about $900/month on driving and car expenses. In the city, even with the occasional ride share or bus fare, the savings of far outweighs any additional rent or mortgage costs. This is true in most cities, not just Manhattan.
for cost avoidance purposes, you would be lucky to be able to 'move your car from one side of street to another' for on-street parking whereas most of the time NYC apts have a parking space 'rent' as well - haven't been in NYC for a looonng time - but how expensive it is!!!

I posted this comment under his video but I mentioned to him that I'm a year older than you and you are very wise beyond your years. Good content. 50+ year old life long New Yorker here, and honestly I was like ‘ hear we go with another 20 something living over their head in the city’. But after watching your entire vid,I have to say - props to you. You’re doing it right. Good luck with everything. NY isn’t what it used to be - but still the best place to be if you know how to manage it.
I also am building a RUclips channel, and have gotten away from working at a coffee shop because of the coffee expense. But historically, leaving my place has increased my productivity dramatically. Next week, i'm going back to my 'office,' which is a Cafe Ladro in West Seattle, a super pleasant environment, and a five-minute walk away! Video editing only allowed during that time!! Unless a cute guy walks in and seems interested:) Which almost never happened, but will serve as a carrot on a stick to get me there. I looove your presentation and upbeat videos!!
After watching this ever interesting, informative and fun vlog, I CANNOT wait to move out to NYC. Just got motivated to work harder and lead a life similar to yours. Inspiring in great ways Taylor :)
Being 24 years old from Japan, I live a very similar life on the other side of the world :) Recently, I had been nervous about finding my next job after completing my MIM and the Big 4 internship in Paris and Singapore. Taylor, I wanted to thank you so much for always being an inspiration & motivation for me! 🐢
This is so cool! I have been seeing posts complaining about skyrocketing prices in NYC but your videos keep me to love NYC in stead of hating the high prices. Your vlogs are also very entertaining and funny yet cool. I hope to see more of your content and the beauty of the NYC.
I just found you. Enjoy life and the journey. Life is short. In a blink of an eye. I am now 53. I have seen many people pass away. I don't take life for granted anymore. I wish I was 24 years old again. Some things in life, I would have done differently. You will be succesful in New York. You have the right attitude! Your enthusiasm for life! IF YOU CAN MAKE IT IN NEW YORK CITY. YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!👍 I liked and subscribed. Greetings from Toronto, Canada!👍❤
Amazing video as always 🔥🔥 You were meant to do this like literally I can watch you all day, your personality is very warm and engaging . Looking forward to more videos from you❤️
I love watching these “what I spend in a week videos” and I have to say yours is one of my favorites. I appreciate how you used accrual based accounting. Your editing is also on point 👏🏼
I think the largest expense is and can be food. Feeding yourself and a family with kids can get really expensive. I mainly eat at home it’s still expensive. Eating well at home is still expensive. Good chicken or beef isn’t cheap. I think all this stuff is too expensive. By the way I think your hair would like nice no matter what you did with it. You have lovely hair.
this is my first time ever that I subscribe a channel before watching any video from it , but after watching this video I didn't regret ... it's really enjoyable
You are so vibrant and fun to watch, Taylor. Two quick questions for you. What kind of Video editor do you use ? Which state you are originally from ? Thank you!
I love the way you describe your life and how you can make it look easy. Even when I'm not from USA I can follow easily your videos and realize how is life there.
I invested on a proper espresso machine with coffee grinder as well. It's a huge upfront expense. But 99% of the coffee I drink is one that I made at home with it. The only exception is just as you said, when I'm out and about and meeting friends. But I don't go out that often anyway, so making it at home makes the most sense. It's just as good as coming from a coffee shop, and it gives me the opportunity to learn the skills of making the perfect cup of coffee. Based on my calculation where I live is that a cup of coffee costs $6. While using my espresso machine at home, I can make the same volume of coffee for just $2 a cup. Multiply that after a couple years drinking daily, the savings I made from it has break-even the upfront investment I made on the espresso machine. So every other cup I made after that, is a significant cost savings.
i have a question for u, I am not american but i saw a video it says pov : u r poor in the usa = buyin fast food from McDonalds, eatin pizza, living in. newyork bla bla. Eating from mc means poor ? or what has notghn to di with new york ? Yanıtla
Great job! Precise accounting, fun presentation, but mostly I really appreciated seeing an actual mindful & frugal take on navigating NYC. I'm 40 in StL, but I felt that 'hurt my soul' coffee pain threshold that only a frugal kindred spirit has. That responsibility will give you so much flexibility long term. Flexibility to live in one of the priciest places in the US (no judgement), or flexibility to opt for less work/lower pay if you ever choose to live elsewhere. Kudos.
Love your hair Taylor!!! Thanks for the videos. I have an interview for a consulting agency in L.A. today and your day in the life vid gave me a great perspective of what I might be doing.
amortizing the haircut over six months. this is the first (maybe second?) of your videos i've watched, and ask me how hard i hit the subscribe button. this is the kind of mundane lifestyle compulsivity i need in my life YESSS.
You have to visit Greece. Here buying coffee everyday before going to work is a state of mind! Prices are between 1.80 - 2.50 euros for take away If you sit to drink your coffee in a coffe shop (cafeteria) you have to pay around 4-5 euros And you can try a lot if you want to drink your coffe in a trendy spot, they are all full all day long
Doesn't matter how much you spend. It's how much you have left after spending. So if you spend 3000 dollar a month, and earn 4000 dollar, you are saving 1000 dollar a month. That's what matters here. If you have something left after your lifestyle, it's fine. If you almost go even, it's where you have to start saving.
Hey! Taylor I really enjoyed watching your what I spend in a week as a 24 year old in nyc vlog so so much you inspired me so so much and I wish you reach 200K Subscribers very very soon!💕✨😃
Anyone that tries to argue people are poor because they buy a starbucks 5$ coffee daily are super uneducated. Gas/Fuel, which for me, living in the midwest, is somewhere around 400$ a month between me and my wife, isn't even close to our biggest expense. While we don't buy coffee daily, in no way is saving 150$ a month or so going to make or break you (typically, obviously there are some cases that its impossible to do that) Thanks for pointing that out!
Taylor, this was an exceptionally well put together video. I loved the quirky bits, here and there - hilarious! I love your personality, keep shining! 👏🌟
And one of the best thing is no car monthly expenses. I grew up on the UES and relied solely on mass transit & walking. Your area is great for walking & taking in the late afternoon sun.
Graham better make a reaction to this one! I personally love seeing videos like this, so thanks for sharing Taylor! Congrats on all the growth as of late!!

@@sabina6579 I wouldn't take that to heart. Just because you do any of those things does not make you poor. I think they were making a joke considering how expensive it is to live in New York that you won't have any money for anything else maybe? Again, i wouldn't take that too seriously.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yea cuz many people live in the usa told me eatin fast foods especially from mcdonalds mean u r kinda poor , i live in turkey and here fast food is so important and we dont approach that people who eat fast foods are poor.
To live in NY you have to have a roommate and to basically live on ramen noodles which is always cheap. People look down on it but when you’re trying to live in a budget, its a lifesaver! How blessed we are to live in our country…. In Europe high energy costs outstrip even rent and food! I haven’t been a grocery store in five years. Happy someone else does all the food buying and its folded into my rent. I could do worse. Good review for those wondering how a 24 year old can survive in one of the most expensive cities in the country.
Many ppl that work in the city don't know that their employer can give them up to 280$ to use for transportation and that money is dudcted off your taxes they use pre tax money so at the end of the year that money is not taxed and you get more take home pay so if your a w2 worker there are ways to save just gotta look for them
Hi Taylor you are simply the best your videos has helped me a lot not in upgrading my kiving standards but also my life . you speak so well and advance and it's been really love listening to you .
Hey Taylor ! Loved the video ! I agree on your coffee spending 100% ! NYC is indeed expensive ! But glad to see you are making the best of it ! I will be moving to Toronto soon and rethinking my Starbucks visits 😂
I genuinely find your videos to be so interesting and entertaining. They're just so real and fun, you're crushing it! What you have going on with your channel is rare (in the best way), I hope you never lose that special quality! Can't wait for more!
You are living the dream, girl! Literally, being in my mid 20s living in NYC is my dream. If I could choose age and place to live forever, that'd be, being 25-26 years old, living in New York. Watching your videos kinda makes me feel close to that, and experiencing it from your point of view. Thanks. I'm looking forward to more content from you.
5:29 whether or not you're staying there to work, you're always paying rent (and electricity, water, sewage, etc. etc.) at any place you go to! The coffee doesn't cost them $5 to make, but after paying rent on the building, paying utilities, insurance, labor, materials, etc. etc., that's the price you pay. I like your perspective on it, some people don't get that.
FYI since you love Chobani yogurt so much you can call the 800# once a month to get yogurt or any kind of Chobani coupons. They usually send me at least one free individual size cup yogurt and one free 4- pack coupon besides the 75 cent ones. When I lost my job a year ago I spent a lot of time going to grocery stores and outlets looking for bargains. They are out there. You just need to devote time to find them such as finding mark down meats almost every single day because it's close to date. Snatch it up and throw it in the freezer. I like my bananas small and half green. BT W have you heard of Walks and Wall Street channel? Tom walks around NYC and Miami is showing the sites but also talking about the stock market. He's usually on almost daily around 9:00 p.m.
I traveled to NYC 4 months ago, and I always went to buy bfast at Mama Jo's breakfast, it is the cheapest place in NYC and so delicious 🤤 they give you one small coffee or juice, a sandwich and a sweet bread 🍞
Cosmetic, face creams, makeup, detergent, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, kitchen stuff, like sandwich bags, aluminum foil, paper plates, dishwasher soap, household stuff, clothing, shoes, you did not count that in!? And that adds up too and is not free.
I love your organization in showing us practically everything thus being a precise visual. I live in NYC as well but I have no budgeting education what so ever so I will do that from now on.
I spend close to the same amount weekly living in a small 2 bedroom house in Indy, utilities, biking to work sometimes, summer pool membership, occasional coffees, car, etc. Most stuff is in walking or biking distance for me. Lots of fun free events, free catered food at work, etc. keep me around. Honestly everything in this video was very reasonable for NYC considering you probably make at least double the money of most of the people in my neighborhood, bar a few finance workers.
My favorite coffee lately is Hometown City Blend WholeFoods coffee. It’s like a perfect medium roast! And I learned from a lady who started her own coffee company- don’t clean the machine too often outside of the carafe. It really changes the tastes for the better if you’re just cleaning it with just water and a light brushing- no soap. Then just clean the carafe with soap and water. I agree, paying 5-6 dollars for a coffee is crazy!
Your videos are fantastic! Fun to see how others are enjoying this great city! I would say the next challenge you can consider is reducing your plastic consumption and being more eco friendly :) A lot of these glamour 'week in my life in the big city' often involve people purchasing a lot of single-use items, whereas in a more normal week there would be far less of them.
Thanks so much Federico!! Hahaha I started out doing well with the coffee at home and that deteriorated a bit through the week 😅 but that’s ok. And thank you!!
Really good to see yourself and Brett collab on both channels! 🙌🏾 Dinners in NYC are usually pricey because you guys always have to pay a tip. Something I always have to remember when visiting from England 😄 Great content👌🏾
In Turkish cities , purchasing big coffee varieties are priced at 40 tl to 50 tl at Starbucks , Gloria Jeans, Arabica Coffee Shops. Pastries at those places are priced between 30 tl to 50 tl. Croissant price is 25 tl per 1 piece. Barber cost for woman varies from cutting 80 tl, dying your hair price is 250 tl. Rents of apartments are rediculously cheap in big cities of Turkey at 500 usd per month to 1000 usd at most. Barber for males cutting costs is 40 tl to 100 tl. Hourly net wage in Turkey is 1.50 usd compared to 17 usd per hour human cost in USA. 1 usd is 18.50 tl. Big mac menu is 90 tl in Mcdonalds of Turkey.
I loved todays video! You have the life style I’m absolutely striving for when I move out, thanks for all the useful info you provide in all of your videos
You have a great way of blending finance concepts into every day topics like your explanation on accrual based accounting! While your lifestyle videos are good, this type of content is a lot more interesting and differentiated
One thing I noticed is that although New York is expensive, you save a whole hell of a lot of money by not needing a car. I used to live in L.A. and I was spending $200 a month in car insurance, $150 a month in gas (didn't even go out much, mostly just from work to home), & $400 a month car payment, not to mention maintenance costs for my car. It wasn't even a luxury car or anything..... When you take that into account, I think L.A. is probably more expensive than New York.
Anytime there's something to do with NYC real estate or cost of living, someone will inevitably comment "I live in Nowheresville, Indiana and my 37,000 square foot house only costs eleven cents!!!" Good for you, but you're...in Indiana. Your best friend is a scarecrow and date night is at McCafe.
What are your thoughts on buying coffees?! ☕ How does your spending differ?! How ripe do you like your bananas?! 🐢

It can be done but as Taylor’s routine shows, you gotta get creative. What’s wrong with it? Nothing that I can see and good for her!
YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!👍
I liked and subscribed.
Greetings from Toronto, Canada!👍❤
Amazing video as always 🔥🔥
You were meant to do this like literally I can watch you all day, your personality is very warm and engaging .
Looking forward to more videos from you❤️
This is so sweet, thank you so much 🥹🙈
love this girl n her wittiness ! such a fresh vibe
Graham Stephan needs to definitely review this video asap. Good job Taylor!!
I would love that! Haha thanks so much:)
I love watching these “what I spend in a week videos” and I have to say yours is one of my favorites. I appreciate how you used accrual based accounting. Your editing is also on point 👏🏼
I love the video! People don't come to New York for the cheap rent and the easy living. They come to forged character and develop experiences. 🐢☺
Thank you so much!! Yess, well said. Couldn’t agree more 😊🐢
I think the largest expense is and can be food.
Beauty and brains! This young lady is a total package! Keep up the good work!
this is my first time ever that I subscribe a channel before watching any video from it , but after watching this video I didn't regret ... it's really enjoyable
The quality of these videos just keep improving! LOVE IT
THANK YOU so much, that’s my goal 🥹
You are so vibrant and fun to watch, Taylor. Two quick questions for you. What kind of Video editor do you use ? Which state you are originally from ? Thank you!
I love the way you describe your life and how you can make it look easy. Even when I'm not from USA I can follow easily your videos and realize how is life there.
Yayyy I’m so glad they’re fun to watch for ya! 😊
I’m already pumped for Graham’s reaction video, we all know it’s coming. 😂.
i have a question for u, I am not american but i saw a video it says pov : u r poor in the usa = buyin fast food from McDonalds, eatin pizza, living in. newyork bla bla. Eating from mc means poor ? or what has notghn to di with new york ?
Yanıtla
I’m glad PB&J’s are receiving the recognition they deserve
Kudos.
I have strawberry jam (jello?) in my cupboard and peanut butter, for the very first time try this famous sandwich Americans crave about!
Love your videos 👏🏼 Buying coffee is a great way to add in a walk to your routine.
Thanks so much girl!! Yesss it absolutely is ☕️🚶🏻♀️
Nice to see Ana de Armas moved to New York! Your American accent has gotten way better!
Can't wait to watch this again on Graham Stefan in 2 days 👍
Was just thinking that!
HAHA would love to hear his thoughts
You have to visit Greece.
Here buying coffee everyday before going to work is a state of mind!
Prices are between 1.80 - 2.50 euros for take away
If you sit to drink your coffee in a coffe shop (cafeteria) you have to pay around 4-5 euros
And you can try a lot if you want to drink your coffe in a trendy spot, they are all full all day long
Doesn't matter how much you spend. It's how much you have left after spending. So if you spend 3000 dollar a month, and earn 4000 dollar, you are saving 1000 dollar a month. That's what matters here. If you have something left after your lifestyle, it's fine. If you almost go even, it's where you have to start saving.
Didn't skip for a second, watched 25 minute video...
Taylor you know this stuff, really!
Hey! Taylor I really enjoyed watching your what I spend in a week as a 24 year old in nyc vlog so so much you inspired me so so much and I wish you reach 200K Subscribers very very soon!💕✨😃
Thank you soooo much!! I appreciate it! 😊
Congrats on all the growth as of late!!
i have a question for u, I am not american but i saw a video it says pov : u r poor in the usa = buyin fast food from McDonalds, eatin pizza, living in. newyork bla bla. Eating from mc means poor ? or what has notghn to di with new york ?
@@sabina6579 I wouldn't take that to heart. Just because you do any of those things does not make you poor. I think they were making a joke considering how expensive it is to live in New York that you won't have any money for anything else maybe? Again, i wouldn't take that too seriously.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yea cuz many people live in the usa told me eatin fast foods especially from mcdonalds mean u r kinda poor , i live in turkey and here fast food is so important and we dont approach that people who eat fast foods are poor.
i also have got another question, 80%people live in houses kinda with garden and corner of the streets ?
To live in NY you have to have a roommate and to basically live on ramen noodles which is always cheap. People look down on it but when you’re trying to live in a budget, its a lifesaver! How blessed we are to live in our country…. In Europe high energy costs outstrip even rent and food! I haven’t been a grocery store in five years. Happy someone else does all the food buying and its folded into my rent. I could do worse. Good review for those wondering how a 24 year old can survive in one of the most expensive cities in the country.
You make NYC looks like an amazing city, I’m definitely going to have to see it in person!
Yayy Thank you!! Would recommend
As an Australian in nyc your accent when you say “hello” at the start of the video catches me off guard EVERY TIME
Many ppl that work in the city don't know that their employer can give them up to 280$ to use for transportation and that money is dudcted off your taxes they use pre tax money so at the end of the year that money is not taxed and you get more take home pay so if your a w2 worker there are ways to save just gotta look for them
Yesss totally! 1099 income right now but will be w2 again soon and will take advantage of alll the perks 😎
Hellooo! Aw glad to hear it! Hahaha yup sometimes I rethink the starbs also 😅 hope you love Toronto!
I am so glad you the math that way! It is the most honest "what i spent in a day" video i have seen
I genuinely find your videos to be so interesting and entertaining. They're just so real and fun, you're crushing it! What you have going on with your channel is rare (in the best way), I hope you never lose that special quality! Can't wait for more!
I appreciate this sooo much 🥹 thank you Micaela
You are living the dream, girl! Literally, being in my mid 20s living in NYC is my dream. If I could choose age and place to live forever, that'd be, being 25-26 years old, living in New York. Watching your videos kinda makes me feel close to that, and experiencing it from your point of view. Thanks. I'm looking forward to more content from you.
Love these types of videos! I appreciate how precise you were with it too! 🙃
Aw thanks Lindsay!! They’re some of my faves also
5:29 whether or not you're staying there to work, you're always paying rent (and electricity, water, sewage, etc. etc.) at any place you go to!
The view from her apartment on NYC is crazy😍
I traveled to NYC 4 months ago, and I always went to buy bfast at Mama Jo's breakfast, it is the cheapest place in NYC and so delicious 🤤 they give you one small coffee or juice, a sandwich and a sweet bread 🍞
That sounds great!
You should make more content with David the investment banker/private equity/Ivy League swimmer/DJ he looks like a super cool dude!!
I totally agree! He’s the best
I love your organization in showing us practically everything thus being a precise visual. I live in NYC as well but I have no budgeting education what so ever so I will do that from now on.
Living your best life, Taylor
Can’t put a price on that.😎👍🤗
You said it! 😊
A coffee, bagel, yogurt and a salad for a day? That’s just a breakfast and pre-lunch, where’s the rest of the food 😂?
I guess she doesn't eat😮
This is the nerdiest What I Spend In a Week I've ever seen and I'm HERE for it. Also I envy your Excel skills.
10:33 is my favorite part
Celeb appearance
Everybody should spend this amount on themselves
Cause this shows self love and self care also
Loving your vibe and you're living my dream life❤️🙂
Your videos are fantastic! Fun to see how others are enjoying this great city! I would say the next challenge you can consider is reducing your plastic consumption and being more eco friendly :)
A lot of these glamour 'week in my life in the big city' often involve people purchasing a lot of single-use items, whereas in a more normal week there would be far less of them.
I've recently been considering moving to NYC from FL, then this video shows up in my recommendations. Great video, love the cool city views.
Always great quality Tay! Graham Stephan will love how you started Monday with coffe at home! 😂
Btw, love the haircut! 😊
Thanks so much Federico!! Hahaha I started out doing well with the coffee at home and that deteriorated a bit through the week 😅 but that’s ok. And thank you!!
the way you edit the videos makes it super watchable gl
Really good to see yourself and Brett collab on both channels! 🙌🏾
Dinners in NYC are usually pricey because you guys always have to pay a tip. Something I always have to remember when visiting from England 😄
Great content👌🏾
thank you so much! Hhaah yup the tip gets ya here in the US for sure 😅
Aww thank youuu. You are so welcome, and best of luck!!!
@@TaylorBell AHHH thank you for replying, you’re so amazing, please continue to upload for a long time 😭❤️
@Kepler 186-F hi:)
@Kepler 186-F i'm good! you?:D
@Kepler 186-F oh thank you! I'm glad you're doing good as well
if you who did the editing, then respect, you are a professional.
Lol, the spilled coffee 😁☕️☀️ I appreciated that.
Oopsie hehehe
Happens to the best of us
You have a great way of blending finance concepts into every day topics like your explanation on accrual based accounting! While your lifestyle videos are good, this type of content is a lot more interesting and differentiated
Hey Taylor, your vlog are kind of addition to me and I always eagerly waiting for your new videos, keep up the good work and More power to you!😊
I’m so glad!! Thank you
One thing I noticed is that although New York is expensive, you save a whole hell of a lot of money by not needing a car.
Graham sent me. Your filming is amazing!
Yep
This video is very well edited and the song choice is mwah 👏
Anytime there's something to do with NYC real estate or cost of living, someone will inevitably comment "I live in Nowheresville, Indiana and my 37,000 square foot house only costs eleven cents!!!"
Good for you, but you're...in Indiana. Your best friend is a scarecrow and date night is at McCafe.
