Thank you so much for this video . Just that little tip of sandwiching the piece of leather in between the two was over my head til you demonstrated .I was smashing rivets , because it wasn't thick enough . You've got a new subscriber .
Thanks for the tutorial. i think i could use single cap rivets to anchor an elastic cord for my notebook binder. do you have a tutorial on how to remove single cap rivets? liked & subscribed.
Thanks. Can you nip the rivet stem with pliers if it's a bit too high for the thickness of leather? Or is this type of rivet not suitable to nip off? I know you can nip copper and brass rivets.
The double cap rivet I have clicks when you press on the cap. What happens when you hit it with a hammer? If the bit sticking up is longer than 3mm will it still lock? Or will the post just bend? You can probably tell I am new to this and don’t really understand how these rivets work. Thanks
It's good that it clicks - that means it's going to be secure. When you hit it with the hammer that will set it so that it doesn't come apart. If the post sticking up is longer, then it may show a little bit on the other side. Hope that helps.
Hi Nancy, thank you for this video your bonkers...🤣 you made i larf you did🤣, is there a golden rule of thumb for leather thickness to rivet post length? Thx
Awesome video, Nancy. I've watched so many of these videos trying to learn, but you video is far better and more simple to follow. Thanks so much for your instruction. Keep up the great videos!
Hi, it's best if you use a setter to match the rivet size for a nicer finish. If you use a larger setter than the rivets then the extra rim of the setter can make an impression on your leather.
Thanks for your video,I can now do this on a saddlebags that needs repairing.just out of interest, where could I buy the leather lion emblem card holder please ?
Glad it helped you Daniel. That leather cardholder was just something I made to sell at a local market. Thanks for the interest! mmm, maybe I should make some more...
Is it possible to set a rivet tightly in just one (3mm) layer of leather? Like will the two rivet halves crush together enough? These are just for looks but need to set tightly. Great vid thanks 👏👏
Leather Class yes, thanks again. For my use-case; reason for using rivets would be the low profile + large diameter caps. But large diameter is also long stems. Unless I’m missing something? Maybe Amazon isn’t the best place for supplies.
@@orbitaljellyfish808 In that case .....forget rivets. I would go for ' leather claw studs' instead...then you could have as large a diameter as you wanted.
Yes, you just need to make sure the rivet length is the right size OR your could thin the leather just in that spot to make the rivet work. Hope that makes sense! It's early here.🙂
Thanks so much for your support Aaron - it's really appreciated. I just made a short new video on using leather stamps, so great timing! ruclips.net/video/MlON6tlOJYA/видео.html
Hi, thanks for sharing the method and the difference of the end works. I am looking at buying the press machine and dies. Do you have experience buying the machine and die from one supplier and the rivet from different supplier? My concern is the dies may not be compatible with the rivet if they are from different suppliers.
Hi, yes I bought a machine, dies and rivets from different suppliers. As long as you buy the correct sized rivets for the dies you have.... then everything will be fine.
@@LeatherClass oopss..I have another question. If the sizes of my rivets are 4,5 and 6 mm, are the sizes of rivet setters should be 4,5 and 6 mm too? For the eyelets, I have 4 mm inner hole. What is the setter size should I use? All for manual .

So you're actually saying that you couldn't figure that out yourself? Honestly? 🤔
Love the "leather sandwich"!! I work with a lot of lighter leathers, and often run into this problem. Thanks for the tip :)
Glad you found the tip helpful! :)
I have been looking for a how-to- do rivets. Thanks a million for this video as am new to sewing and bag making.

Awesome!! You answered a question for me about what happens if your cap stem is too long ..... "just add another small piece of leather"!

This is so helpful! I'm making toe caps for my roller skates and I was unsure how to plug any space in my rivets as they looked a bit big! Thank you!
Thanks Leanne, so glad you found it useful.
Thank you!! So nicely explained and it helped a lot! ❤️

I suppose you could give it a go but I think it would be difficult to get a clean finish - just best to get the right sized rivet I'd suggest.

hiya does the same principle apply to embellishing a pvc fake leather jacket?
Yes, it's the same. But with pvc, you'll have to be delicate when setting the rivets - maybe make a smaller hole too.
Thank you! Very useful video!

Hey Joyce London...thank you for your lovely comment.
Can I use a 5mm setter for 4mm rivets? Or does the setter have to be exactly the same size as the rivets?

If you use a larger setter than the rivets then the extra rim of the setter can make an impression on your leather.

best prices are online - or you can check your local leathercraft store. You may get good deals in the New Year sales...
Can you remove them?
It's difficult but yes, with pliers and a good grip .
