Excellent step by step, thanks for sharing, Sir! I may have to do the axles as well, as I’ve had roar sounds coming out of the front end of the vehicle. So far I’ve replaced the left front wheel hub assembly, no change, I’ll do the right side wheel hub assembly tomorrow, to eliminate that possibility, hope it’s only a bad wheel hub assembly ( they’re the originals, 277,000 miles on them ). Have new cv joints/axles on hand as well, and the 34mm socket. Will let you know how it goes and or proceeds to the axles if need be.
I lucked out on my project, Sir. All of the noise and other unpleasant sounds were the fault of the Right Front Wheel Hub Assembly. I got the job done yesterday, replacing the right hand side wheel hub assembly. It was very seized together, as it took a few hours of pounding, drowning the area with three different penetrating oils, eventually the axle nut came loose, using a 3/4 inch breaker bar, extension and 34mm socket. But the hardest part was getting the original WHA to disconnect from the cv axle. Connections had no interest in separating. Finally, they did, and the noises went away. But I do have the new CV axles ready for when they need replacing.
Are there torque specifications for the axle nut? I took our Vue in to the same garage to replace a wheel bearing/hub and I had to take it back 3 TIMES because withing months it started to roar again. They replaced it each time for free, but it went out again and I'm doing it myself this time so want to make sure it isn't torqued too much. I discussed this with the owner of the shop[ and he said you can't over torque these bearings and they just use there air tool and giver!! Is this true and what is the spec? thanks! GREAT VIDEO!!!!!
Both the axle nut AND the lug nuts should be torqued correctly. Yes. Air tools with no torque spec is just awful, take it elsewhere Secondly, some of these aftermarket bearing assemblies are awful! It might be worth trying a different brand.
Jack up the front end so both wheels are in the air. Rotate the wheels by hand and listen for the grinding. If its wheel bearing, you'll hear it when comparing wheels. If you hold the strut spring and turn, you'll feel the bearing vibration through your hand. I also have a video on this. For CV axle, I discussed all symptoms in the video, so I wont put them here. good luck
Normally when you're checking a bearing, your put your hands at 3 & 9 o'clock, push and pull alternatively. Same for 6 & 12 o'clock. If it doesn't move or make a knocking sound, the bearing is fine. The grinding noise you'll hear is normally the brake pad riding along the rotor.

Axle seal replacement video
What do you mean by axle seal?

Do you think this would also make a grinding sound as well? Instead of knocking? I thought we had a bad wheel bearing turns out it wasn’t. Thoughts?
