John Chancer gave Snuffkin such a perfect voice with a perfect delivery. It oozes a profound, unobtainable confidence. Some people claim this version sounds pretentious, but I'd describe it as straightforward. Snuffkin is unapologetic, not proud. And never unkind, even when frustrated.
I love how neutral his facial expressions are and how full of emotion his voice is! It just makes it so funny and gives him so much more personality then if they’d given him a monotone voice to fit his facial expressions!
I like how his whispering is *actual* whispering. Normally in shows, animated or otherwise, it’s either talking slightly softly or going “wsspwhspwsspwhsp.”

I voice act in my free time for fun, and I have no idea wether this is his native voice or he really is putting on an act, but this is a voice that is very hard to do. So not only is it calming to me, but I have mad respect for it too.
Snufkin is such a chill dude. He's like a carefree hobo. You get the sense that he's just hanging out for a short time, that someday soon he's going to head out on the trail.
You should give it a go. It's a kids show, sure, but it was really mysterious and kinda enchanting, and the characters and lore were so good. Also snuffkin is wonderful

You should watch the show then, it really is entertaining! It's the 1990 Moomin anime, and you can find quite a few of the episodes on RUclips (plus the official Moomin channel has been uploading episodes)
I really respect this dub. At those times, dubbing foreigner properties was either an hastened cashgrab to sell toys or a throwaway joke to market obscure animation to sell directly to home video. But here you can eat the passion and fun of the voice actors. Truly worthy of respect.
Anime, for some reason, is voiced like this. they animate first and then the actual lines are filled in after, rather than recording the voice acting first and putting the animation to it. That’s why Tina Fey sounds SO terrible in here voice acting in Ponyo. It takes skill to do this well.
Clark Rogers Anime _is_ animated with the voice lines in mind. The original voice lines, mind you. All forms of professional animation work that way. It’s just that the dubs that come out afterwards can _not_ alter the animation in any way, the dub companies simply aren’t allowed to, so they just have to match what is already there.

In my personal opinion, The moomins are the best cartoon for kids ever. I remember watching it 20 years ago, and it made huge impact on myself. It showed amazing family bondage, a lot of problems that wasn't so obvious to solve and many characters that were shocking for us as a childs, but life is also that way! I get a feeling This animation was made for kids also to become more creative, because it have some crazy ideas, metaphors and some touching music also making this a piece of art (in greatly balanced and mysteriously interesting ways). If I ever have one, my kid will also watch the Moomins for sure!

I really respect this dub.
At those times, dubbing foreigner properties was either an hastened cashgrab to sell toys or a throwaway joke to market obscure animation to sell directly to home video.
But here you can eat the passion and fun of the voice actors.
Truly worthy of respect.
I honestly though that this dub was going to be way worse, although the original is always going to be my favorite

Anime, for some reason, is voiced like this. they animate first and then the actual lines are filled in after, rather than recording the voice acting first and putting the animation to it. That’s why Tina Fey sounds SO terrible in here voice acting in Ponyo. It takes skill to do this well.

Clark Rogers Anime _is_ animated with the voice lines in mind. The original voice lines, mind you. All forms of professional animation work that way.
It’s just that the dubs that come out afterwards can _not_ alter the animation in any way, the dub companies simply aren’t allowed to, so they just have to match what is already there.
Why the hell am I intrigued by this character from a show I've never seen in my life?

In my personal opinion, The moomins are the best cartoon for kids ever. I remember watching it 20 years ago, and it made huge impact on myself. It showed amazing family bondage, a lot of problems that wasn't so obvious to solve and many characters that were shocking for us as a childs, but life is also that way!
I get a feeling This animation was made for kids also to become more creative, because it have some crazy ideas, metaphors and some touching music also making this a piece of art (in greatly balanced and mysteriously interesting ways).
If I ever have one, my kid will also watch the Moomins for sure!
Of course I didn’t, I closed my eyes like I said.

John Chancer's Snufkin gives me the same vibe as Scott Dreier's Knuckles the Echidna, that calm and collected introvert who is usually out on his own in nature but still enjoys hanging with friends and being the all around charismatic and quiet type. Makes it all the better in instances like this compilation where they get a little more expressive and over the top than usual
