I agree as well... insulating the bathroom walls is a must. Everyone likes a little privacy in there and the people just outside the walls don't want to hear what's going on in there.
Good tip not to forget, always tie from front to back bumper and over the top of any boards, it won't snap then with the wind trying to rip it off. All looking great and always a good idea for the floor lockers / wine store.not forgetting their is a ton of space in places you haven't thought of yet to do. Kick space under the unit can hold a mountain of stuff, bagged bedding and clothes for one. Coming together now.
Looks really good , a lot of work and planing ..To get to this point . .The duck egg colour is good and ok .In-between . neutral .I think And not to tell some one, what to do or how .The laminate flooring .The one item i see ,is to have a good gap .Say one inch ,from the wall / kick board on top.. . I have seen problems .When a wood floor, has not had the room to swell .Like to see people ,learning new skills..And winning .
Compared to where you both started, the boat is beginning to look like a fully professional build. It takes a lot of thinking, planning, care to create something looking this good.
@@DriftwoodFolk Well you know it’s your choice so I know you will choose what ever you want to, and I have a feeling it will look so beautiful afterwards, because young lady both you and Mike have great tastes when it comes to your likes 👍
Wow Nisha - the most impressive thing is how self-confident and competent you've become since you started all this. Congratulations to you and Mike on the progress.
Good lord, Nesha, when are you putting your shingle up for boatwright for hire? Every episode reveals new skills you've acquired and the confidence to put them to use. A long way from the days when you had a pencil and hand saw and little else. You and Mike are doing such a good job. It's a pleasure to watch the boat coming together. Just as an fyi, I have a wooden boat that needs a lot of love, fancy a trip to British Columbia?
I absolutely admire you for taking on all these tasks 👏. I love that sage green colour, you don't want to use too dark colours . Have you thought about just painting darker green stripes or squares to break it up? Love following you both and watching the amazing transformation of your Narrowboat ❤
My main thought is that in a small space colours should be kept light. Dulux used to do a series of white-not-quite paints. The colours are faint/pastel. You have made the external traditional perhaps Farrow and Ball’s traditional colours for the interior may be something to explore or Dulux’s heritage collection????
I floored the entire downstairs of my house in similar flooring except for the kitchen and WC. After a while your brain get frazzled and it is easy to cut the wrong side or end of a board or two. Will you be using the kitchen floor hatches to store fruit/veg/booze to keep it cool? For the sake of moving a few ballast bricks you get a nice cool storage place. (Make what looks like a fixed end to one such space, but that is removable and you also have a nice place to hide small valuables.)
Wow! Amazing work. You made putting in the floor hatches so easy. Love the Green colour that's being painted inside. The boat is really coming along now. Love your videos so much. Looking forward to what is next in store. Take care both 😊
Yes there will be colour no matter what, just gotta decide on the right ones! We’re gonna finish the boat more before deciding on colours I think, might be easier!
We did exactly the same on our boat , same floor & underlay but after a while it started to creak terribly due to it not having a solid enough base so we took it up & glued it down solved the problem
I re-did my bathroom in light mineral green walls and then painted the lower cabinet in a darker mineral green for contrast. White upper cabinets and I love it. It’s now my favorite room. With mermaid accessories 😅. Always so soothing in vibe. Like an ocean 🌊 cave
The boat is really coming along and looking really nice. I do like the light green color on the wall. Just enough color, but not too bold. And better than just plain white.
I must congratulate you on tour skill level with the tools fantastic improvement . Happy Trails stay alert with those tools they tend to bite the best of owners. Happy Trails .
Wow you guys are really coming along so well. Nearly there. You’re both🥰🥰 perfectionist 🤗💕🙃love the green Neesha and the floor looks amazing Mike don’t be hard on yourselves🥰 Great seeing you both xx thanks for sharing xx 9:39
I bought a tin of white but when opened it was green, just a bit darker than yours, it is really nice from engine area to the galley where it changes to dark deep aqua from Zinsser:.a very tough paint, has a slight satin finish, I'm very pleased, the dark aqua works well with the white satin above. Leave it as it is , is my advice, it's not till evething comes together that you can be sure, and if it gets a bit scuffed or dirty, you can refresh next year. I have just had to open a new tin of Zinsser, it's not easy to mix if it's been sitting around BTW. I had missed a bit firstvtim around, so I just dabbled with a brush and it now has a nice wavy look if looked at from a different angle, I rather like it, even though it was unintentional.
A lot lol. I'd really recommend buying a boat you can immediately move onto unless you are retired/in between jobs and therefore have the time for the work! Take it from me, it’s hard to do this with a job or business too. If you do buy a project boat, then I'd tell you to estimate spending about £25k on renovations. However long you think it'll take, double it. Double it and THEN add some if you have no DIY experience. And, don't forget you also need to pay your monthly boat fees (for mooring, license, insurance etc) and your rent/mortgage + bills of your home while also paying for the renovations and the upfront cost of the boat. :)
Thank you for the quick response, I think if I were to buy a boat I’d probably end up living on it full time while doing it up gradually, ideally I was thinking taking a 30k loan out buying a boat for around 20-25k and then using the rest for upgrades. This way of living is exactly what I need I’m just weighing up the pros and cons.
The color is nice, however, if you are not in love with it, I would change it. You could try ordering a few sample colors and sit with them for a bit so you can see them in all the different types of light. ultimately, this boat is for you, and you should love being in it, so a color that makes you feel joy is important.
Hi, I'm a narrowboat liveaboard. Just wondering why four large bilge inspection hatches were needed, with consequent loss of rigid insulation board, rather than one ? And why not just have a spyhole ? A vapour barrier between the plywood base floor and the laminate underlay. also seems necessary, to stop warm damp air in the cabin meeting cold air coming up from the floor and forming condensation. Just saying. No shouting in any replies please.
Hey thanks for your comment .. After doing alot of research and talking to those like yourself, the majority of people said to have atleast 1 inspection hatch in each room just to check the bilges but also to remove or add ballast to stabalaize the boat after shifting furniture on board and the final fit out is done. Can't lift a brick through a spy hole 🙈. The insulation will be glued to the underside of the hatches so we won't lose any heat in those areas too. As for a vapour barrier we've blacked the boards underneath so they won't suck up any dampness or condensation and we've also insulated in the bilges so not really any need for a vapour barrier as this will regulate the heat pretty well.
While you're running cables, run a water pipe along with the wires. The pipe will act as a conduit for some unknown future need. Trust me, you'll be chuffed some day.
@@DriftwoodFolk Sorry, I'm not being clear. I'd run a dry pipe along side of the wires to use as a conduit as future-proofing for when you need to run another wire or something (solar, server, mains, etc.).

He is right. I did not insulate the bathroom walls and I regret it.
I love the green color.
Ok good to know! hoping it helps keep certain sounds in so guests feel comfortable if ever they stay over on the sofa bed!

Much appreciated we've got spacers around the edges which we will remove so it has a gap to expand 👌🏼

You're doing a fantastic job of your boat. The skillset you've learned is amazingly

Love the green, better than boring white and seeing as you have a white kitchen, just gives a welcome colour to the equation. Boat looking fantastic!

Insulation on the bathroom walls, YES! Noises, warmth. All helped with Insulation

Yes it’s a little creaky isn’t it! The kitchen hatch is the creakiest so I’ll have to do something about that 😁

Yeah the plain white was just undercoat, there will definitely be colour on the boat!
Great to see you back. More good progress on the boatd.

I think they’re for storage , once the bits of ballast are removed it’s a great place to store beer .
Agreed, great for storing beer and also veggies like potatoes etc! The ones in the bathroom and bedroom will likely not be as big

Yes, there will definitely be colour! We're thinking of painting the green in a deeper, darker green though. We'll see! :D
